funny how the point of bitcoin is taking the control away from centralized organizations and putting the power in your hands, but people still blindly trust these seemingly fly-by-night exchanges, wallets, gambling and scam sites like it's nothing.

I'm still a complete newbie and figuring out how to purchase and create a wallet for my bitcoins then have them stored on an encrypted device for the long run.  Any suggestions or referrals?
