Good stuff here.  I'm realizing more and more that I'm not nearly secure enough with my BTC stash.

I'd like to add Trust no-pc either. I don't know how, but in the last 3 o 4 days somebody cracked my e-mail password and requested a password recovery from Deepbit, then changed the Reward Address... I've lost almost 1BTC, until I realize what happened.

Therefore, don't trust any other pc than yours, and eventually check your payments address...

Nice post dacoinminster and I agree with most of your points, though I believe that there are levels of trust. All depends on the "volume". I wouldn't go to the supermarket carrying 10000 euros on me so the same goes with Bitcoin... I wouldn't use the "big" (or "savings" if you prefer) wallet to make transactions all over the internet. A hosted wallet service is quite OK as well, if you use it for "pocket money" transactions.

Thanks for the good advice.
I've been trading bitcoins on #bitcoin-otc.  The web-of-trust which is a very useful way to gauge another users trustworthiness, but it's worth the reminder that even that is not foolproof.

BTC is based on a leap of faith, if you trust no one - don't use it  Smiley

Although I don't see why you should trust any fiat currency more than BTC...

A lot of people will learn this the hard way with BTC, especially as more and more ordinary Joes start using it
