thats cool

hey Unthinkingbit

I wanted to tell you this man, I was listening to Science Friday on NPR last friday and they had this scientist on and he was talking about how he wants to make science open source, he said he tried to create a wiki but he does not have time to post articles and he wishes there was something in place to pay people for posting wiki articles!!!

I tried so hard to call in - I wanted to tell them about devcoin/devtome - but I could not get connected, busy busy busy

oh well, it was crazy though everything they were saying devcoin/devtome could answer their problems...

Thanks for trying. Indeed, people have been asking over the years for a wiki that you can post anything open source. In time as devtome gets bigger and better known people will slowly drift in, and someday it might reach critical mass and people will rush in and complain that they didn't know about it sooner.

explorer.devcoin.org has been dead for a while - is it going to be fixed or replaced?

Block explorers seem do die every several days. It may be necessary to automatically reboot them daily, or something.

There is a remaining 1 generation share bounty for making another devcoin block explorer, when its working it also gets a 1/5 of a generation share each round.

I think there is a problem with Abe. Which is what every single alternative block explorer runs off of. I need to contact John Tobey and see if he has a fix for it, the damn thing just dies every so often and theres apparently nothing you can do about it.

I will restart it now.

Cablepair gets 2/5 of a share for the linux daemon binaries:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg667306#msg667306

If anyone makes daemon binaries for a platform they get 2/5 of a share, and also 2/5 of a share for gui devcoin-wx binaries. For example, if someone make windows daemon binaries and windows gui binaries, they would get a total of 4/5 of a share.

Because the devcoin price has fallen since I last wrote about the devtome signing bonus, the generation share signing bonus has been doubled again retroactively to ensure that it is still worth more than the bitcoin option:
http://devtome.org/wiki/index.php?title=Earn_Devcoins_by_Writing

Cablepair
3 generation shares for reminaining signing bonus, (he already received the old signing bonus before it was doubled then doubled again):

I looked over the forum post of developers on the bitcoinshare list and it seems that some developers were no longer working on bitcoin. I sent messages but could not reach the following people:

AnnihilaT
BitJAMiner
MacCompiler
Puddinpop
Zamgo

If someone reading this knows those people, and they are still working on open source of some kind, please ask them to message me. If the open source project is not bitcoin related, they'll simply be moved to the devcoinshare list, but they'll still get a share. If I don't get a reply by time the round 9 receiver file is generated, they'll be dropped from the list until they start developing again.

Some deep fixes to Open Transactions crypto, that we thought would probably cause al lthe existign contracts and such to have to be signed again and change their ID hash and such due to fixes in the signatures, are now in place and they seem to be working fine with the existing data. So it looks like we maybe don't have to create all new contracts and such after all.

SO trading is back on again at the Digitalis Open Transactions Server. Grab the latest Open Transactions and its java client, "Moneychanger", from GitHub and the digitalis-assets.tgz file of contracts from http://sourceforge.net/projects/galacticmilieu/files/ and come try it out!

I looked over the forum post of developers on the bitcoinshare list and noticed that some developers were no longer working on their original projects. Kiba is now working on 'The City' instead of the bitcoin related 'Bitcoin Weekly' so I changed his contributor paragraph and moved him from:
https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/bitcoinshare.html

to
https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/devcoinshare.html

I tried to contact the following people:
AnnihilaT
BitJAMiner
Kiv
MacCompiler
Puddinpop
Zamgo

some didn't reply at all, of the replies I got they were either that they were no longer working on bitcoin stuff, or that they were working on open source but they didn't show any link even after a repeated request. So all those people have been suspended from the bitcoinshare list, if any of them reply and provide a link showing that they are working on some open source project, they'll go on the bitcoinshare list or the devcoinshare list.

BIP-30 is a security fix, please update your devcoind and/or devcoin and/or devcoin-qt before the Ides of March (the 15th; my birthday, aka the Ides of Mark) as that is when it will switch on.

Relevant URLs include:

https://github.com/knotwork/old-devcoind

https://github.com/knotwork/old-devcoin-qt

https://sourceforge.net/projects/galacticmilieu/files/DeVCoin/

(The "old-" prefix is to remind us that these are all based on old bitcoin code not the latest and greatest bitcoin code. They are, however, the latest and greatest devcoin code. Smiley)

What happens if the majority mining power doesn't update? Or the majority of clients?

Put the receiver_1.csv, receiver_2.csv etc files into the ~/.devcoin/receiver directory.

It looks like some of the hosts that used to have the files are gone now or have removed the files, but I included them all in the .tgz so you should have them?

Any plans for http://pool.devcoin.org to come back online?

I noticed it wasn't up & running last Sunday.  I checked again today with no success.  I figured I'd give it a week before posting to reduce potential FUD.

Any chance it is down because they are adding more coins to the pool?
