Is the drop due to the saying by Calvin Ayre that they will give up on the Bitcoin Cash, and concentrate on the Bitcoin version of the Satoshi Vision? So he will wage a war against Bitcoin instead of Bitcoin Cash? That could damage more to the bitcoin itself.

I am quite sure that most of it is being driven by Jihan Wu financing his "War on BCH-SV" coupled with Bitmain cashflow issues and having to dump a ton of their BCH (and probably other coins as well) horde.

I have never understood the whole "BCH" junkcoin push by Wu - it's not like cryptocoin NEEDED yet another junkcoin, and the only reason BCH ever got any traction at all was Bitmain FORCING it to be used to buy their miners for quite a while.

I wouldn't quite term it as a junkcoin.  BCH came out when there were legitimate problems and arguments regarding block size.

And was unilaterally created with NO consensus that it was a good choice.
Without Bitmain forcing it to be used to back their miners for quite a while, it would have never had ANY traction and would have dropped down to pennies (or perhaps single-digit dollars at best) within the first 6 months.

Horrendous. It's 2014 all over again. Trying to chase some stupid no-name coins that might or might not still keep your rigs above water somehow. I'm pretty much done with it, tbh. Unless I can get an extraordinary power deal I'm shutting down my rigs... Unless I am sitting in my attic and need heating (because otherwise I'm fekkin' freezing)!

Even the cheap power in Canada (Labrador) is not as cheap as before with "mining tax" introduced soon and smaller hosting setups being squeezed out by the bigger boys -- mainly from China relocated to Labrador.

So unless you know someone who has free power or inherited a nuclear power plant, the economics of most GPU and ASICs based mining is not profitable anymore.

My 240xGPU AMD farm is also now shutdown but I still power up my 22 x 1080ti every now and then.... hope this Crypto Winter ends soon.

The only consolation for my group is that the gears are ROIed and thanks to the 2015/16 investments - we had a good run with ETH from $2 bucks and BTC from $600 bucks.... well it was fun while it lasted.

GPU and S9 mining is still profitable here - but the profitability IS a lot worse, I was making more on perhaps 1/3d the hardware 2 years ago vs what I'm making now.
I DID have to shut down some of my older rigs (R9 290s are history, and I'd already shut down the smaller R9 series and HD-7xxx stuff months ago) due to them going underwater, and the D3 units are just a little underwater right now (but they work well as winter heat).

I have been switching out of "pure crypto" the last couple months as a workaround for the "crypto rate increase" due soon - a rate increase that hits small farms a LOT worse than big ones, and is therefore very STUPIDLY set up and does not address the "why we are doing this" AT ALL.

I'm buying more of 92mm PWM fans with 4 wire if it worked..experimented with my 280x...the 4 wire fans functions like the stock fans (can be controlled with msi AF), if wired properly to the GPU board (GPU fans are 4 wire too)...

..will attempt modification to my zotac 1080ti for longevity, 2013 to 2016 i have 280x, 2018 to 2021 i'll have 1080 ti  

..will test and clean each my year 2013 GPU risers with my 280x GPUs. i think a handful have issues...i bought newer versions looked cool (2nd hand)

..corsair AX1500i is a piece of shit...it will not function as a single rail even if the software says so, the engineers even designed a sensitivity crap that if my internet connection had a hiccup, it triggers the protection even it is pulling just around 1000w....hx1200 is better-no issues, AX1500i might work with a server that is just pulling ~500w or less as a masternode (might be good, PSU fan not spinning due to low temp/power).

I can’t buy that, all the gpus i had that failed failed due to heat , yeah some bad fans but only the brands with notoriously shitty fans. : xfx and gigabyte.  a card can fail  a month after buying it or three days, two years

shutting them down doesn’t guarantee when you fire the back up in six months they will not die after a week lol.

even at a tiny loss as long as its less than $500 a month i personally will keep mining, people have hobies that cost as much.  plus this is winter , my cards ♥️ this weather low temps nice frosty garage lol.

I had 1 failed Corsair PSU - 1200w - forgot which model - and I have since returned back to EVGA-1600 for all my GPU needs.

The EVGA-1600w that I have been using since 2016 are still working until today --- all 18 of them.

They have gone thru extreme mining conditions and I have no regrets on these high-end EVGAs - worth every penny.

For the riserless rigs, I standardized on Delta-2400w Platinums - these server PSUs are truly workhorses and very reliable.

an old second hand thermaltake 1500w also died-going for the trash bin ...thought it was the board,my very old socket 775 board circa 2006-2007 hehe..still kicking..

server PSU are not also very available here, some I've seen here are not my type...I'll just stick with new desktop PSU's and test if they are good with warranties...seasonic is good enough with warranties here...i'll watch corsair this time.

Since we are talking about PSUs, for me the more expensive the PSU the higher the failure rate.

Most of the larger >1000 Watt PSU are all modular, and almost 25% of them have had a burnt +12V wire on the modular side of PSU, very difficult to fix properly.

My cheapest PSUs the Corsair CX750W the ones we all bought during our Litecoin days, never had any issues. No wires were burnt or fried PSUs.

for me, i have solved that modular problem from being burned with this..

- always use two lines per GPU instead of using both 8pin (8+8) from a single line.

- one sata or pata per riser

and make sure all connections are tight-standard in all electric related stuff..


if modular connection is ruined and if warranty is not an option, I solder a new connection...or if the board where it was soldered don't have a good soldering point due to burning...i trace the wire where that soldering point (board) is getting the 12v source and tap in the wire and solder it. normally the modular part is just a board which is getting it's volts and grounds form a bundle of wires behind that board.

I agree on expensive PSUs being crap but only up to the point where the manufacturer like corsair can inject a program to the PSU and make safety triggers like it turns off if a spike or the load is kinda heavy...in my case ax1500i is increasing sensitivity when it is going above 1000w..

that ax1500i really has miners in mind haha that prick PSU even wanted to be turned off and on by its switch...because when i traveled abroad i asked a person to just turn off the electric breaker and turn it on (that person is not a tech kinda guy)...and that PSU just stayed off like nothing happened and when i got home i switch that PSU off and on and then it resumed mining.....corsair ax1500i engineers fuck you...there you go

PSU-wise, I've had only one constant: the EVGA 850GQ are crap. I've had three fail on me. Well technically the third one is still working despite one of the socket being burnt. The G2's are supposedly a totally different ballgame when it comes to reliability apparently. I've only got one and it's been fine for the past year.

I've got an XFX and a Silverstone still chugging from the 2014 days.

clearly we have different coins in mind hehe, it is all about the multipliers x10000, x1000, x100, x10 a lot of X's on a lot of things .. sometimes x10 and x5 is not good enough

Next BTC halving should either show some bullish signs or have some bull run 3-6 months after like the last halving. ETH was supposed to dethrone BTC and with all the poop BTC has gone through it remains king (from market cap side, maybe not development side).

This is the first time since 2011 I have nothing mining. No GPUs, no ASIC, not even my gaming laptop (which mined enough Monero to pay itself off back in the day). The RTX cards are trash from compute standpoint so I'm hoping AMD actually goes somewhere with 7nm.

Too bad real estate will probably crash same time as the next crypto run - I'll be spread too thin.

I'm making quite a bit more than "a nickle per day per GPU" - except on the R9 290s (they're still underwater right now, but it's close) and possibly the pair of 960s I still have mining.
On the other hand, I'm not paying 8 cents/KWH.
I also do NOT expect to see $1/day/GPU back anytime soon, if ever.

I've had to replace almost all of my Gigabyte board fans - most of them have NMB 92mm case fans, just wired to 12VDC since the power consumption is low enough to not bother with PWM - those cards commonly run 50C or less even in a room in the low 80s F ambient temp.
A few have left over Delta 80mm fans from various retired CPU cooling setups, though I'm not going to waste the pair of 68CFM screamers on that duty.

Corsair AX (i) series is junk - the AX series WITHOUT the (i) are good units, Seasonic SnowSilent (which is the Platinum version of the Seasonic X series) clones except they use a Corsair-specific pinout on the PS side of the cables and a Corsair-specific ball-bearing fan.
I have no clue why they use the AX name on 2 such totally different power supply designs - it's misleading and VERY confusing.
