It seems hard to predict the good N-factor value to be a real GPU friendly coin, you seem to be very confident about it though, and i do not have your knowledge But imo it would be best to have a N-factor set by people with the "moment knowledge" about CPU, GPU and ASIC mining...or even better, an auto regulating/auto-detect thing (probably very hard)
Yes it's an interesting thought - one way to have an ASIC resistant, but always GPU mineable coin would be to just hard fork it periodically. It would also enhance the multipool resistance of such a coin by ensuring that they always had to keep coming back and doing work to be able to mine it - there could be no "set and forget" merged mining code. Right now, VTC already has these features though, and I think the n-factor schedule, at least in the first years, is probably about right to stay GPU mineable whilst making ASIC development impractical.

Ok, well if your wallet shows your balance, then it is unlikely to be completely corrupt. It's possible, but seems unlikely. At least the public key must be readable for the wallet to "know" what key to show the balance for. One other thing you could try is, find a tool for brute-forcing passwords on bitcoin wallets (which I don't know of, but am certain must exist somewhere) and set it to finding the password for the wallet.dat you have.

Help! I purchased some and decided to encrypt my wallet which had 3x what i purchased from mining... Program didnt close fully within 2 minutes so i ctrl alt del it. Loaded back up showd balance but would not take the key i had just generated. restarted and the wallet is corrupt... What can/should I do? I have the wallet.dat(0balance) and wallet.(numebers).bak
Right mouse button on the folder containing the wallet, properties, previous versions, perhaps anything listed there to restore wallet from shadow copies?

The seed nodes seem to be getting overloaded - vertcoin, please can you increase the connection limit.
For now, I've brought another node that accepts inbound connections up myself. Please use: 54.201.249.125

I'm mining this at vert.bitcrush.info for a few days and this is the most stable pool i found this far. Tried most of them and had the same issues with like most of you guys are reporting. Try them!
Yes, I second this - bitcrush have been very stable. The only reason I was trying to shift people off there earlier was to balance the network. As always, please check www.vertcoin.com and go on a smaller pool to distribute the hashrate. http://vtc.kilovolt.co.uk has been stable also.

There's a GPU settings thread at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=416572If you can't get going once you've read that, post your GPU type and we'll try to help you optimise your settings.

I sure hope so. at the current rate it's less profitable that LTC to mine. I'm happy to keep a nice stash set aside for the future, but I need to pay my electricity bills.

Yes support building nicely - no real resistance below 0.00075 and the market depth graph looks really good for a price rise.

I thought it would trade at .00015-.0002 at opening on Coinedup personally, then build in price as N-factor and hash rate both increase. There are just a lot more coins now and people have to spend days researching them all before they find ones that provide benefit BTC/LTC doesn't, then they can apply some kind of market valuation. Price discovery just takes a lot longer than it used to due to so many coins out. VTC is still highly undervalued.

Yes I agree with this - I'm surprised there still an opportunity to buy so cheap. I also put it down to the same factor you identified - there are so many generic clone/scam coins out there offering nothing new (at the moment Digibyte, Noble and USDe come to mind) but they have good marketing, like you said the result of that is that it takes longer for people to sift through the mass of coins and find the stuff with real long-term value.

I just hope people take a long enough look at it that they don't mentally group it with all the quark clones.
