Annoying bug:
the "Items from <country>" probably uses the IP address to detect the country instead of the one in the user settings.
Not good for people traveling or using a VPN hosted in a foreign country...

It should show the country according to the IP when it's non-registered users.

For users logged in, it should simply overwrite and use the info from the users profile.

Yes it should... But it doesn't.

the country selection is working properly for me now. I've another problem/feature request:: I've setup a sale but got a better offer elsewhere. There's no way to notify the bidders or close the auction.

Another bug: the messaging doesn't work at all (Inbox/Outbox/Write a message) when you open the link from the notification email in Firefox 10.0.7. Clicking the mail icon works though (note: I didn't notice the icon at first).

Bitmit has very few users: not allowing to update an auction to notice them they are outbid on another site makes selling on Bitmit nearly useless.
I've got 3 purchase offers above the single bid I got on Bitmit with only one free advertisement on a local marketplace. eBay has at least 2 ways of handling this : delist the item or update the description (updates are append only IIRC).

You should not be able to cancel an auction. A person auctioning an item should be required to sell it to the winner of the auction. Once you've started the auction, it should be considered a contract between the seller and the highest bidder.

Do not waste your time debating whether Bitcoin can work. It does work.

"Early adopters will profit" is not a sufficient condition to classify something as a pyramid or Ponzi scheme. If it was, Apple and Microsoft stock are Ponzi schemes.

There is no such thing as "market manipulation." There is only buying and selling.

I was just browsing around on bitmit.net when all of a sudden that message hit me:

Quote
Bitmit closes
Dear valued Bitmit user,
Unfortunately we have to shut down Bitmit because of upcoming law regulations in our country. Our server is going to be turned off in about four weeks. Please complete your orders and withdraw all your Bitcoins within that timeframe.

We are very sorry for that Sad We really enjoyed the collaboration with this awesome Bitcoin community! :*

Thank you so much for your support!

Your Bitmit Team

If you like you can drink a goodbye beer with us :/ 1EP2w3vVAwTCK2xptWYAvBsM982sqaDz9w Thank you

That sounds really really bad :/

I am going to miss that site, if that is not some bad joke.

Sadly this is true. I hope we can find someone who is able to continue this business. If you are interested in buying the site please contact us (support@bitmit.net).

What country are you in that is currently legislating against this?  You can pm if you want, but I am interested in the viability of running this site or another like it.

I don't get it. You already run bitmit completly anonymously. So why are you afraid of law regulations?

As a major seller on Bitmit (7% of orders in September) I hope you will find someone interested in keeping the site running. If needed, I'm ready to invest and put some work towards that (taking a part of the profit in turn, off course). I'f any interested buyers are looking for someone to cooperate with, I'm open for suggestions.

Currently I am pointing out some options we have. I should not have published this depressing closure msg. I think we will find a solution that satisfies all of us so don't worry guys!

Good news. We have a solution. Bitmit is not going to be sold. Business as usual =)

I am sorry for the insecurity this may have caused.

I think you are a Hong Kong company and I can't see any upcoming e-currency regulation here. Have I missed something?

It was stupid and not professional to announce the closure without figuring out the alternatives we have. As I already said we have a serious solution which will be a benefit for all of us. Informative details to this whole story and - for more transparency - background information about Bitmit will be published soon (bitcoin magazine, codinginmysleep.com).

Tiny update:
- Positive ratings are allowed when the incoming payment status is unconfirmed

There is a very difficult path choice as a company owner to decide exactly how transparent serious problems your company faces should be made available to the public. Personally, I think it was bold of you to be so honest about your situation and I have the deepest and most sincere respect for you doing so. Whether it was the right decision monetarily, it is clear you made announcements based on caring about the people who use your services, and that compassion for the well being of others is a great thing.
