Since "Tor" is the German word for "Gate" (and other similar things; Door, Gateway, Portal, etc., depending on context), I propose: "DarkGate".  It's an anonymous gateway to the internet.
The issue is that people wouldn't really get what the service does from just seeing a name 'DarkGate'. DarkTor was probably suggested because TOR is somewhat known to the public.
If you look at the news these days you could have read that the government is trying to scare people away from TOR. Looks like there is room for DarkTor.  Wink

+1, that was my argument on Darktalk as well

If open bazzar acceptés darkcoin would we need darktor  Huh Just thinking out loud
open bazaar = market place
dark tor = deep net
I think it would be a good idea to emphasize the "router" word. It defines the fact that it's routing traffic, not the source, on it's face. Might help alleviate the problem of TOR exit nodes being harassed by ignorant guvthugs/willfully ignorant guvthugs. The Onion Routers == TOR. Naming it "The DarkRouter Network" doesn't hide the self-evident nature, thus, it remains self-evident. "TDRN" is a crappy acronym and won't really catch on, and that's a good thing. We want people saying "DarkRouter" or whatever it gets named... It's a service of the masternodes, and other services to come... It has to have "Dark" at the beginning.

Makes sense why there is no multi-entry now, but I still don't want to run a bucket full of MNs... That Coding Calamity looks nice tho... For the cost of individual VMs, it's actually cheaper for me to host a whole Pizza Box and do my own VM stacks...

Not thinking for the devs, just hashing things out loud so they can do things more important then dreaming up stupid names... They'll name it whatever they want, but why should they have to do everything? Don't they have better things to do?

That sounds like a step in the right direction.  Dark Onion Router = DOR?  DORN = Dark Onion Router Network (or Nodes)?  LOL, How about Dark Onion Router Kollective (DORK)? LOLOL

I think leaving out the word "Onion" and just calling it "DarkRouter" and you can pay to use "The DarkRouter Service brought to you by DarkCoin's MasterNode awesomeness."

I like Iris too.  The DarkNet is almost exclusively for illegal purposes. Darkcoin is about privacy and civil liberties. So maybe we should just avoid "Dark" altogether.

I think this is a terrible idea. Most people can barely Computer and Internet as it is. We have an opportunity to re-define what DarkNet and DarkWeb mean, not run away from a pre-supposed definition known only to a few.

Secondly, it should maintain the branding.

I want to note that I was opposed to the "DarkCoin" re-branding from the original XCoin name. But I came around to understanding the above. DRK is wide-sweeeping enough to change definitions. "Dark" needs to no longer be synonymous with crime. DRK can make it so. That is a deeper fundamental change and Evan can make it happen with such a completely sweeping integration of functions.

I don't think that would work. Yes, the word "dark" usually correlates with illegal activity in the mind of an average person. If they saw the name Darkcoin(Dark+Coin), ok, they would probably be interested on it's purpose(which is a good thing), but if they then saw another name like Darknet, DarkPortal, or Darkland, they're going to be thrown off and probably won't want to interfere , thinking that it's illegal and whatnot.

It's basically not possible to try and rebraind the word, Darknet, since many illegal and gruesome sites etc use the Darknet for their activities, it won't work and will just drive away people from the coin.

I think the name, Iris, or maybe something similar, would be the best.

I think pricing per MB/GB makes more sense, but hey you could have it both ways, or impose caps, all priced up and selectable in-wallet.

Prices in that poll are on the high side IMO...

(10 cents / 0.0275 DRK (current exchange) * 1000000 daily users) / 1000 MNs = still 27.5DRK or ~$100 per day.

There is absolutely going to have to be a minumum MN spec (bandwidth!) for this though. And it's going to be near impossible to enforce that, so some mechanism for booting shitty underspecced VPS's off the network would need to exist.
