lol, comparing the name to washing deterigent is as stupid as comparing Apple to the fruit. It's the product(s) and service(s) underneath the brand that actually matter.
well washing coins with dash could be more than a synonym hahaha brilliant!! But vertoe is ultimately right. Its a case of direction. Niche vs mass adoption. We can be DASH or something else and still have Darkcoin. Though right now I can't see how. Niche vs. mass adoption? No! Have the balls to go for both. Darkcoin is a brand already.

Well, for English native speakers, "apple" the fruit and "Apple" the company might sound the same, but the washing detergent is called "Dash" globally. Also notice the capitalization: Dash the washing detergent and Dash the currency vs. apple the fruit and Apple the company No its not ! I speak a few languages and none, even in English, have I ever heard that. Like "let me Google that " instead of "let me go on a search engine", never with Dash. What I meant was not that Dash is a synonym for washing powder, it is an established brand name. When you ask somebody if they know a product named Dash, they will think of the washing powder. But maybe that is just a European perspective, I just found out that according to wikipedia, it is only sold there: Dash, laundry detergent, last made in 1992 in the US, it's still present in the European market, it's one of Italy's leading brands of laundry detergents
BTW: the brand belongs to Procter & Gamble, definitely not someone I would want to get in a fight with

Dash will be infringing on a companies name that already exist globally... if you think they wont attack or come after you for using their name then you dont understand how business work and have another thing coming They're not even competing in the same space. If that's the case, all these are fucked: http://www.trademarkia.com/trademarks-search.aspx?tn=dashCertainly Evan, the team, and the foundation aren't stupid enough to go down a path that will result in litigation. If they are changing the name, whatever name they change it to will be vetted to prevent that sort of thing. Use some common sense.

I get trying to claim a single word of the language to identify the brand via basic brain-shaman occulture, but dash is pretty fucking boring.
Pick something else.

Did you all invest in this coin because of the name or the underlying technology? Really. If it's the latter, quit the fanboyism and start trying to capture as much market share and user adoption as possible. Something that will not happen with the existing name. If we were already established, trying to go after the remaining people turned off by the name Dark wouldn't make sense, but we don't have those people.

when i read the post about rebranding i was kinda hoping this would be an very early 1st of april foolsday joke.
So we are going for a third rebranding in what ? less then 16 months ? i sure hope you guys know what you are doing and have really thought this through because with a rebranding you will have so much lost already (name recognition for a start) and its very unsure you achieve what your hoping to achieve with the name Dash. And to be honest i'm not getting any vibe from the name Dash so i'm not too thrilled about that part either.

I agree Let me just say who I am, I would be considered a Darkcoin "whale"(over 50k DRK), and I've been alongside this coin for ages, since back in March, 2014. Darkcoin's been through some hard, controversial times, but it's pulled through and reached new heights in the crypto world. I recently saw a proposal for a name change(About the 5th time I've seen these talks). All I can say is, I'm fucking tired of it, I'm tired of the fuckups and the changes. Let Darkcoin be the way it is and improve upon Masternode anonymity and instant transactions and whatever other exciting new additions that will come to be. Darkcoin's entire being and recognition as a currency lies in it's name. I myself especially like the name darkcoin because of how powerful it sounds by mouth alone, something that goes against the ever transparent system that's out there. Changing it to something as shitty as "Dash" is utter fucking bullshit. If Darkcoin continues on this stupid path I'm out, I'm done, and I'm gonna sell my coins and call it quits with this coin. Too much bullshit.

My point is: - Apple is a global brand owned by Apple Inc. apple is an English noun for a certain type of fruit. - Dash is a global brand owned by Procter & Gamble. When Darkcoin wants to be the global brand named "Dash", there will be be at least some confusion. Also, the point of my post was to make a different suggestion, namely D-Cash. It makes for nicer wordplay (D-Day!) and is very hard to mis-interpret

I'm still trying on the 'DASH' shoe. It's not a bad name, but I fear that if we lose the name Darkcoin we risk losing our online identity with the likes of WIRED and THE GUARDIAN, who are keeping tabs on our progress. DARKCOIN is bold. DARKCOIN is highly searchable. And DARKCOIN is what brought us here, into the TOP 5 of all cryptocurrencies. Let's hope this is just our 'New Coke' moment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Coke

We must contact The Guardian for to change darkcoin to dash... http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/mar/06/tips-tricks-anonymous-privacyDarkcoin is an open source digital cryptographic currency based on the Bitcoin software code. It is intended to be a more private version of Bitcoin (which typically prides itself on its transparency) and it claims to be the world’s first anonymous cryptocurrency. Finding merchants that accept Darkcoin can be tough (Darkcoin has its own merchant directory which you can browse here http://tinyurl.com/qzo398u) but when you do, your financial transactions are well hidden and, in theory, entirely anonymous. NOOOOOOOOOOO, it's DASSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
