Here's an interview (supposedly) with NSWGreat, one of the "staff" members on Evolution, the darknet site that's turned into a giant scam and precipitated BTC's sudden drop over the past 12 hours.

He's claiming the BTC haul is likely to be much much higher than the 44K being bandied about on various forums and troll boxes. It could be as much as 130K of BTC if all the funds in escrow are taken into account and can be accessed. If this is the case it's likely we'll see more dumping over the next few days, particularly given the offenders are likely to be sending BTC to mixing services left right and centre which will take 24-48 hours to work through.

Expect a wild ride on the BTC front for the next few days.

http://www.deepdotweb.com/2015/03/18/interview-with-nswgreat-evolution-staff-member/

When they get caught, hopefully the private keys to the coins are lost in the process. Everyone can fantasize about the events that would cause that to happen, so I won't spoil you with mine.

One does wonder what the ramifications are for "lost" bitcoins are though. Satoshi is still purported to have 1 million BTC that hasn't been touched. That could be because he (or she or they) are upholding some sort of moral principle on not ever touching them or Satoshi is incapacitated or dead or has just plain old lost the keys to the coins. Either way, I wonder what the ramifications to liquidity and future stability/usability are of substantial portions of the total number of coins that have been mined being taken out of circulation permanently?

He would have been mining on all sorts of wallets. He will have a bunch of BTC that no one will link to him that he is using for buying beer.

Coins that are watched will most likely wait for Sidechains to be launched, tested and working.

LoL

Paycoin's been up the Eiffel Tower and back down again in the space of 2 hours.

All you have to do is make sure you're on the right side of this little trip (and I don't mean 'right' as in left-right  Cheesy  )

This is pretty interesting point of view. I agree with the thrust of the argument.

-snip-

No, I think those hackers are going to get a shit ton of money out of their BTC's. I just don't think they are going to do it this, or the next week. I don't think they are ever going to use the exchanges for that money either. I think Evolution was a scam from the start, they came up with a scammers business plan, they worked on it, they collected the cash and they got out. I'm sure they planned for this and it does not involved "dumping on the exchanges". They are professional criminals who have financed their operation with criminal investment capital. They aren't stealing 100K BTC today for $30 million dollars. They are going to save that money till a)statute of limitations passes or b) it's worth $100 million, or $500 million or more and they will very slowly and calmly find a way to spend it. Or sell it off in bulk to some other criminal investor.

Running a dark market like Evolution is an enormously complicated, risky and dangerous endeavor. They people who aren't professional criminals, like DPR, get caught because the government simply has too many resources for non-professionals to get away with.

No, this Evolution money isn't hitting any exchange, anytime soon. And why would it? Why would these people, who just scammed people into letting them hold their money, give someone else all their money? They aren't stupid. They know most exchanges are risky-as-fuck. They aren't putting money that they earned by committing crimes worth life in prison into other exchanges run by criminals or idiots, or law abiding and AML checking accountants.

This is a a group of dumper whales that just wait for bad news (which always happens) seize upon the opportunity and move into action. We wouldn't really panic if the sale of all those bitcoin were for no particular reason, but link it with any media report and you've got a full-blown freakout.

Hey quick notice! @darkcoinnews rebranding (Not to Dash)

I will not be covering news about Darkcoin anymore and have thus changed my @darkcoinnews twitter account name/logo/etc. I'll still be checking in here regularly since I'm hooked anyways but I won't help promote Darkcoin actively anymore.

While I was optimistic at first for a rebranding, the way the situation was handled was absolutely horrible. Dash itself is IMO quite a bad choice for the name and I've been vocal about that but the fact that no alternatives were seriously discussed and that the decision was made permanent within a few days was a dictator move instead of a decentralized currency and it made me rethink the effort I put into promoting.

I definitely could have lived with Dash if we came up with a few great alternatives and then put it to a real vote. Instead it went from rumors, to first announcement, to confirmation within a few days. (Don't come at me with "A decision HAD to be taken" bullshit, there was no hurry and a few more weeks wouldn't have changed anything).

I'm keeping all my Darkcoin and I remain always impressed by the development speed and the resulting tech. I'll definitely give some Twitter shout outs to interesting developments but it won't be my main focus anymore. So this notice is really for those of you who want to unfollow me.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

just been listening to the Lets Talk Bitcoin interview...

I already knew that Evan (and the dev team) is a genius but thinking about it more, I realise that Dark/DASH is truly an amazing piece of technology that just keeps evolving and getting better and better.  Of course Bitcoin started it all but now that BTC is pretty much static in terms of technology, Dark/DASH really has the potential to run side by side and be 'on par' in terms of price/market cap.

It's very exciting to be a part of it all and I think the name change was 100% necessary to bring Darkcoin to the next phase.

Also I like how Evan said at the end that DASH is trying to be like Mastercard to Bitcoin VISA.  I hadn't really considered that analogy before.  It makes me more confident that DASH can sit side by side with BTC rather than always being the 'little brother' as such.

Boohoo, way to handle things like a grown up. Either you want the currency to succeed or you don't. If you do, then promotion is the best way. Seems counter-intuitive to "stick it to the man" and still keep all your coins.

Agreed.  Anonymousxx...really try and move past this.  In the scheme of things it is so insignificant how the name change came about.  Can you image the chaos and the countless pages of discussion had Evan and the dev team put a name change to the entire community?  Shit happened, the technology is the same and now the potential is even greater.  Seems to me the only one losing out here is you.

The way I'm seeing it, Gavin Andresen's only solution to solving the 7 transactions per second bitcoin bottleneck problem is to increase the block size, and we all know how bloated and slow the blockchain already is.
For example, recently I ran out of space on my 120 gig SSD, and couldn't figure out why because I only really had windows 7 OS and some trivial stuff on it, and you know what, it was the 35 gigabytes of the bitcoin folder that was maxing the drive out!
Now, try taking a short trip down to the darkcoin folder, and you will find it is only 1 giga byte in total size, so here we have a proposed solution to an already mega sized folder is to super size it even more in order to increase the number of transactions and rely on good old Moore's law and a fast Internet to sort everything out or Evan's approach using the Masternode's which is a totally different way of doing things.
Do we want more of the same with big chunks of data or do we want something novel and different, eh ?!

Dash is 27.3 times faster with syncing and updating than Bitcoin and 93.7 times faster than Monero. Bitcoin (v0.11.0) has a Tao ratio 11.2% faster than bitcoin (v0.10.0) release.
Dash (v.0.12.0.49) = Tao sync ratio = 0.15 seconds / hour of update || Dash (v.0.11.2.23) = Tao sync ratio = 0.24 seconds / hour of update. V12 versus V11 speedup = +36.5%
Bitcoin (v.0.11.0) = Tao sync ratio = 4.14 seconds / hour of update || Monero (v.0.41.1)  = Tao sync ratio = 14.2 seconds / hour of update

Thanks Guys! I had Never Listened to Evan Before. As a Long Term Dark Holder I'm Very Impressed.

Still don't know about Dash but who am I?

 I 've always felt it needed a rebranding to go Mainstream.

Cheers
