What I don't understand is where this ~18.39 Dash amount came from.  I sent 20 Dash to the address listed on Index item 1. I approved 20 Dash plus the small fee to be withdrawn from my qt-wallet. Definitely did NOT approve 38.39288666 DASH to be withdrawn and I've not set any payments out that were there previously and didn't go out.

The ~18.39 is sitting unredeemed according the transaction record. Have I lost it? Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? The ~38.39 definitely came out of my balance.

This 18,39 is in your change addresss which wallet creates each time you divide the one input amount....
If you send 50 coins out of your 100 coins you had in one address, if you will not point the exact change address you want (option in dash-qt) than the wallet creates it, it is the new address from your 1000 keys it already created when you created the wallet.dat for the first itme

TAO'S DASHCUREX.COM GUIDE FOR DUMMIES:

- Create account at Dashcurex.com
- Fill out profile information.
- Under Settings, find Export Profile to Bitcurex.
- You now have an account at Bitcurex with the same login info.
- Buy Dash: Send Bitcoin to Bitcurex. Under Balances, click send to Dashcurex. Your BTC arrive in Dashcurex immediately.
- Sell Dash: Send Dash to Dashcurex. Sell for BTC. Under balances, click send to Bitcurex. Your BTC arrive at Bitcurex immediately. Withdraw as normal. (First time addresses must wait 48 hrs.)

Note 1. You can be logged into the two sites simultaneously.
Note 2. I have asked for a switch to Bitcurex feature, or the ability to send BTC from Dashcurex. I'm sure that functionality will come eventually.

Go into the console and type "listaddressgroupings" (after unlocking the wallet). That will show you your full balance with a breakdown by each address - in other words, you'll see all the change addresses that the wallet is currently using.

b.t.w. The first time I got caught out with this change address stuff - a couple of years ago when I first started trading bitcoin - it gave me a complete heart attack because I checked the balances on blockchain.info and saw that most of my funds were gone. I thought I had been robbed.

After that, I always sent the funds back to the "main address" OR created paper wallets for the change addresses. If you've got significant amounts parked at any address I would always at least create a paper wallet using "dumpprivkey" in addition to whatever backups of the wallet.dat you have. Keeps you conscious of things.

 I've proposed for some time now a feature to be able to add a static change address to the config file. Obviously this has potential anonymity issues, but on the other side, it brings great benefits for many different types of operations out there. Be it at a private or at a corporate level.

 Think: redundant long/short cold/backup address safe keep.

 Agreed. But how do I implement this with the QT ? Is this currently possible, or a future possible feature ?
