If all the anonymity enhancements are in, and the rest is just user friendliness, maybe we should organize a bounty to trace a Darksend transaction? It seems like many people are talking out of their ass saying DRK isn't anonymous. An unclaimed bounty would go a long way in shutting them up.

(from http://blog.anonymousbitcoinbook.com/2014/08/visualizing-one-round-of-darkcoins-darksend/)

Does this diagram mean that with 1 round mixing for 2 users - coins are traceable (related to ours) with 50% chance?
So in simplified model, to make our coins 99% chance untraceable we need to mix it with at least 99 other Darkcoin's users? Is it correct?

So. Here we are: Waiting.

There are 4.6m coins in circulation and they all have a home.  All those months of $millions changing hands has pretty much left us with those that believe and those that are waiting.

* RC4 -> RC5
* Audit reviews

That gets us to stable, then

* Open Source DarkSend

But, don't forget that Bitcoin is still Beta software; and DRK is based on Bitcoin. RC5 is basically a validation that the anonymity works and people can rely on it.

There will be a period of hype and pumping. We have to get through that and create the narrative of why people should use DRK. Kristov is actually doing a pretty good job, but while he has a position to shout louder than most, he is but one voice.

We need to educate the gambling sites, the porn sites and the sites that want to remain hidden from view about the the privacy benefits of bitcoin vs DRK.

More importantly, how they can leverage the media and brand recognition of bitcoin, while providing the protection that DRK can afford.

Take a look at this recent Newsweek story - gambling sites increasing accepting Bitcoin because of the anonymity it affords.

If only they knew.

And that is the point. They don't know. And they won't know until they read more stores about businesses like Coinbase closing down accounts because their customers are being shunned for using their services.

Quote
“Bitcoin is not just for people looking to buy anonymous weed or micropayments to Africa,” he tells Newsweek. “It’s useful for poker too. We are focused on anonymity and for players looking to control their bankrolls, we have the fastest payouts in the industry.” Other well-trafficked bitcoin gambling sites include BetCoin and SatoshiBet.

http://www.newsweek.com/introducingbitcoin-poker-266405

edit

our next PR campaign should not just focus on cointelegraph or coindesk.

It should include a direct attack on the media outlets that the gaming industry uses.

IF EVER THERE WAS A PRODUCT OF ITS TIME, DRK IS THE PRODUCT THAT CAN RUN THE GLOBAL ONLINE GAMING INDUSTRY. THE GLOBAL ONLINE PORN INDUSTRY

Yes Yes Yes
I am totally with you on this (coin telegraph and things like that have to be done, but that is just 'maintenance' NOT PR in my opinion)

Questions is if we are ready to do such a push for proper PR or if we should wait for RC5 and working wallets (anonymisation) !
I think it is a good time to prep this
- collect emails and contacts
- write up a PR release for DRK
- get everything ready to send
and after RC5 + New Wallets + Open Source
we are ready to send this out right away and use the push of RC5 and PR to spread the word !!!

Maybe a good time to make 1st contact now ?
Not sure, you tell me

If DS+ works as intended it means that there's an equal possibility that either party could own the prior money from the viewpoint of the blockchain after 1 round of mixing. Even then there's plausible deniability from future transactions. With more rounds of DS+ things get much harder to track, for example 8 rounds of DS+, there's 2^8 users with an equal likelihood of owning the prior money (256 possible users). With 3 participants per join, there's 3^8 users (6561).

DS+ just removes the blockchain as being used as proof that any user did anything with absolute certainty, which is our goal.

The masternodes seem to be a complicated answer on how to mix coins using coinjoin.

I think it would be cool if darkcoin did something like this:

-users find each other like a normal coinjoin
-once they are ready to start mixing a new throw away ledger is created using ring signatures like monero
-every user would have a starting amount in that ledger that correlates to their input. 1 DRK = 1 TempDRK
-every user then has the ability to randomly move the values around in the ledger and any double spends abort the process
-once they have moved the TempDRK a bit they move them to unspendable addresses that also signal what DRK addresses to use
-once they are done they sign the transaction

This makes sure that even if someone was watching/corrupt the whole time you can't follow the coins and it's decentralized and output addresses can be anything. Even the people in the mix can't tell who is getting what and can only be sure of their own mixing. Also the only thing that matches are the total going into the ledger and the total coming out. You could have 4 people enter the ledger but have 20 output addresses of random sizes.

Hey guys, (maybe a newbie question)

Has anyone been able to get Darkcoin running in a Tails pendrive? I've spent hours since yesterday trying to do that but I was not successful.

My idea is to have a portabe (pendrive size) Darkcoin wallet. Preferably TOR protected.

The other solution was installing everything in an Ubuntu live pendrive, but I was not even able to make the pendrive boot even though Ubuntu has got a "pendrive installation wizard".

Now I am quite tired, so I have decided:

1 - To seek for help Wink

2 - If no help found, try to make it on a Debian live pendrive (or on any other linux flavour...)

One thing I have been able to do many times already was to configure Darkcoin running though TOR in a Ubuntu notebook, but that's not as portable as a small dongle can be Wink

I would be interested to this as well.

Set the USB drive boot flag using gparted. And if the ubuntu installer doesn't work use unetbootin instead, been working fine for me for years.

edit: a lot of motherboards wont boot from a USB3 socket, or not without fiddling with the BIOS/UEFI. Use a USB2 socket instead. I bought a laptop a month ago that wouldn't boot anything at all except Windows, until I disabled all the trusted/secure boot bullshit.

Thank you, thelonecrouton, for your suggestions. I've tried gparted, as well as "sudo fdisk /dev/sdb", flagged it as boot, but nothing.

The ubuntu pendrive never booted. I've tried ubuntu's wizard configuration, unetbootin, and pendrivelinux... no progress making it boot, even though the Tails version pendrive did boot (so I guess it was not a machine problem). The thing with Tails, is that I was not able to make the Darkcoin wallet run on it.

Anyway, in the end I was able to make it work by:

1. disconnecting the HD from my computer (so that I didn't make a mess);
2. booting from the Ubuntu disk;
3. installing the ubuntu OS directly on the pendrive as if it was an HD...

Surprise, it worked without mystery.

After that I just had to install TOR and the Darkcoin wallet, just like in any regular computer.

Voilà, my portable Darkcoin wallet Wink

This is from Facebook
'how is DRK doing' was the question .... how are we doing !?
(i know how we are doing) but it seems like the public out there does not !
that one guy (2nd to last) is saying ....."problems with RC4, they are ether in the process of fixing it,
or have already done so but the market/investors have not caught on" .....

Honestly .... is it fixed, the wallet issue with the 1-8 setting
(working on 1, but not on 8 )
or still in the works ?
Shouldn't there be an update if it is ??
Or isn't it ....>

The coin is great, but why the price is still so low?  Huh

Because the core team has been reluctant to do any PR around the successes of RC4 (it works outside of a few edge cases) prefering to wait for everything to be finished and to their liking. That won't happen until opensource which is 1-2 months in the future. Whether this is a good idea or not can be debated. Personally, I don't mind as no hype=good buying opportunity.

So since the only people who really understand the status of the coin are supporters who are already invested (just look at the post with the Facebook dialog to see the level of understanding of the "masses"), the price is down and there is not much interest.

DS+ just removes the blockchain as being used as proof that any user did anything with absolute certainty, which is our goal.

Evan, thank you for explanation!
I am DarkCoin’s longterm-fan and hope that your team will achieve and hold the best practical level of un-traceability - so you won’t stop upgrading DerkSend technology in the future.

«No proof that any user did anything with absolute certainty» - may be a good stuff to protect yourself with good advocate in court of democratic country.
But pity it is not enough to protect from let's say criminals - who have no problems with let's say to hunt all of 2-256 possible $10.000.000 holders and apply additional researches and «cruel ways of getting wallets-passwords» to each of them.

So the level of un-traceability is more the question of numbers of DarkSend’s users than DarkSend’s rounds (for example 20^3=8000 is better than 2^8=256).
When the number of DarkCoin’s users will achieve the number of BitCoin’s user - it won't be such a problem - but till that - may be it’ll be good to artificially limit DarkSend’s speed to let's say «Once an hour» or even «Once a day» to collect more users and DarkSend all of them simultaneously?

Another approach for next generation of DarkSend (but I afraid it may be lots of security issues in this case) may be some way of using MasterNode’s coins in mixing (1000MN*1000DRK - is a good stuff to mix with Smiley ).

Glad you feel better mr activity 0

Waiting on the atlas review as are lots of others.
This gives something really solid to promote.
As opposed to all the "our coin is the best anon" claims which is so prevalent investors can't distinguish the good from the vaporware.
So an outside reviewer giving the thumbs up is really what it takes.

The market is pumping elsewhere.
So people sell and look for quick gains.
Dangerous though. The review could come out any day.

As for for the price it is cheap.

The future of this coin is incredibly bright. It's a long term project.

Will yes my activity is 0 bcuz I come here and read and that' it.

I'm not happy bcuz it's just delays after delays and lets be honest here the coin is great but all that coin in which people instamined had to be dropped and new ppl to take over some of these coins meaning many people will have to wait if they invested like me in the way ubber pirce limits.

I read here one Chinese guy has 300,000 coins what about the other's? what about me do I have to sell at low prices so a whale be happy and I'm screwed because I need to pay for bills etc..

Ohh and guess what? I do have enough to hold a MN but believe it or not i'm ur average joe who doesn't know much about computer's so setting up one is to hard for me.

Where are the PR work? video's maybe? are we waiting for all that instamined coins to be dropped? how many months should I have to wait for them to do that?

please don't comment on my English because ..................010

Maybe you should go to https://darkcointalk.org/forums/marketplace.9/ and put your coins to work in one of the masterdode service shares...

The instamine is probably all gone. It's 8 months on. People traded 1000's before the massive spike happened, which was ages after launch so if someone with massive amounts held that long good on them. If you look at the rich list the distribution is way better than most coins.

If you need to pay bills with your crypto you've over extended.

I don't have enough for a masternode either.
If you have 200 dark you can buy shares in vertoe's masternode service.

If you have enough and don't have the technical knowledge Ghosplayer/yiddakee has a help desk/setup service.

There are currently no "delays" RC4 is launched and works.

The review is happening.

The PR will come.

Bitching/trolling isn't going to make you rich overnight.
