UH this is really worrying.

"Evan Duffield added a comment - 5 hours ago

It turns out the masternode voting system is over complicated and somewhat risky to the network, so I've removed it and am using the RC3 masternode payment system. This means we won't have enforcement, but it fixes all of these issues and removes the risk to the network."

PLEASE please please tell me this is not true. Without enforcement, the entire masternode system is compromised!!! What were all those months of work for, if we don't get enforcement?Huh

Hmmm

I seriously hope that something is being taken out of context, and I delete all these posts when Evan responds. I need to step away from the computer.

i really dont see why enforcement shouldnt be switched on. theirs 1pool that is paying 10% for months and now they will get even more time. i worry that other pools will switch back to 10% or more drkminers decide to move to the 10% pool. Either way rc4 should have enforcement on no matter what.

Evan we NEED a clear statement on what is going on! The theme for the last two fucking months was that enforcement was just around the corner! Please explain!!

I agree. This is nothing short of disasterous if true. I'm seriously hoping you just misspoke.

Without enforcement, why would any pool pay MNs?
DISASTROUS? Are you fucking kidding me? If true this is beyond disastrous! If there's no enforcement, the masternode system is dead! What the fuck is going to stop people from not paying, thus compromising the entire thing! You better not be telling me that I was with this project for 6 fucking months to get a half baked solution.

Doesn't it mean that a hard fork would be necessary for enforcement? If that's the case, sure, it's not ideal but it's hardly the end of the world.

It depends on what he meant by no enforcement. The RC3 hard fork was basically the turning point in the DRK chart, as it caused forks in the network. For the last 2 months or so, Evan was working on a new masternode payment system, one that was supposed to have both enforced payments and no forks. If it turns out that all that was for nothing... I don't even want to think about it.

I took it as no enforcement for the update, not 'no enforcement ever'. Fingers crossed.

No enforcement for RC5 would still be terrible. If that is the case, this is a multiple month setback. I am seriously stressing right now.

Calm down.

I agree no enforcement ever is very very bad, but let's wait for Evan to explain what he meant and what he has in mind.

+1. That was the obvious interpretation.

Alarmism not required unless Evan makes an announcements saying - "sorry folks, there's not ever going to be any enforcement EVER. Pools can keep their 20% if they wish or kindly make a donation to the masternode people which would be much appreciated".

I think he might have thought twice about the formality of announcement had that been the real plan.

LoL.

We're at 1 **sixth** of the all time high and you're just getting round to stressing now ?

If you're not out already your a bit late to worry about technical issues Wink

What I understand is that the voting system was supposed to change from RC3 to RC4 but we stay with the RC3 system hence no enforcement for the RC4...

Yes, but the concern is that Evan was very reluctant to test enforcement with RC3 payments before... Not time to panic, but an explanation would be nice.

It all depends on what Evan meant by that statement. I think we can all agree that no enforcement is very very problematic. Miners do not necessarily have to be sympathetic to DRK. Additionally, no enforcement would open up an attack vector on the Masternode network. Someone who doesn't like DRK can simply mine at a 20% advantage to everyone else, while undermining the system that lets DRK function.

There has to be enforcement. I suppose the advantage of the RC3 voting method is that is has been tried and tested so in that regards surely less risky to turn on?

Let's wait to hear from the captain..

Moreover we use the soft-fork strategy since June (test then enforce)

Quote
The last couple of days I've been working on implementing the hashing algorithm for the last issues we had on the 20th and I've come up with a strategy that I think will much better suit us for launching the masternode payment system.

Instead I propose the following plan for launching RC3 in stages, which will be much safer and more stable:

We'll introduce an "enforcing" setting for masternode payments. This will be turned off at launch making it the equivalent of a soft fork, but will allow us to use the full infrastructure of the darkcoin network for testing. In the debug log, the system will complain when any issues arise and users can report such issues. After a period of time passes with no issues, we'll set a date to begin enforcing. At this time all issues should be dealt with so we'll have a much smoother launch.

In the past launches all problems have come from the client checking the block to possible forging of masternode votes. With enforcing mode off, the system will still detect these and report them but it won't reject the block. So once we stop seeing these messages (except for valid forged blocks) the system is ready.

This also allows us to turn on masternode payments much sooner. I believe it will take us just a few days to test this new setup, then we can turn them on for mainnet.

The RC3 system was maybe never enforced because a system change was scheduled for RC4.

suchpool or coinmine.pw or p2pool. With the price low you could also go for xpool.ca (multipool paying out in dark)
