Don't confuse the website with the pool. I don't see any reason to be concerned.

Thanks. During the weekend, I have no chance to get to my miners in time, so I really appreaciate your words - you saved my time and my nerves :-)

ok so the website has nothing to do with the pool, to me that mean the website does not and cannot show what my mining is actually doing or gaining! so what is the point of the site?

The back end would be different. Probably an issue with the pool software communicating with the website I'd imagine

The stats page and the share log are completely separate, if your miners are submitting shares and Eligius is accepting them you will be credited for them. This is one of many fail safes in place for the pools protection as well ours (the miners).

Stats can't even run weekly maintenance without a full page of people posting here...

Granted the maintenance took ~30 minutes instead of ~10 like it should, but still...

Don't even need an automated setup for monitoring. lol

Mine occurred yesterday as scheduled. One was delayed a couple of days by the queue - it was a big payout.

To expound of what GrapeApe posted - they're separate.

The pool itself runs nearly flawlessly 24/7.  The stats page has an issue from time to time on rare occasion.  But it doesn't affect the pool nor mining.

But to address the "cannot show what my mining is actually doing or gaining" part you shouldn't be using the stats page alone to monitor your miners' activity or performance.

If the amount I simply will never get back in shelved shares exceeds 5% then it would have made more logical sense to mine straight pps at 5%.
This is true, if you trust the PPS pool to take on that risk and not run off with the bitcoins...
Are there any PPS pools left?

Of course luck is simply that, luck. However given that bitcon is a true no house edge system then there must be 50% of the people as "winners" to offset the 50% as "losers".
Not quite. Stale blocks (which are the only reason shelved shares won't reach 0%) are wasted hashing on the network. So nobody "wins" there.

Actually I never thought about this but: Do shelved shares "depreciate" in value as difficulty goes up, or are they paid at the value they had in terms of finding a solution when they were mined?
They're counted as a percentage of block subsidy. So they're paid based on the original difficulty, but once the block subsidy halves, they lose half their apparent value also.

On this topic, I would imagine that the statistics on shelved shares generally reflect the Bitcoin difficulty changes over time?  In other words, the most recent shelved shares will be greater in number than older shelved shares?  If my thinking is correct, then a 5% shelved share rate over the past 2 difficulty levels (~3 weeks) would create a ~100x greater number of shelved shares than the same 5% rate would have in October, when the difficulty was ~100x less.

In other words, although the shelved share database goes back years, more than 50% of the shares in the database (but much less than 50% of the VALUE of those shares) would be from the past couple of months.  (I know that Eligius is using minimum difficulty 128 shares now, in order to cut down on resource usage.  Of course I'm talking about shares normalized to base difficulty.)

I'm curious if you and wizkid would be willing to provide some statistics on the shelved shares.  I would be most interested to see the breakdown by difficulty level: # of shelved shares from difficulty 23,844,670,039; # of shelved shares from difficulty 267,731,249; etc.  I think that the numbers should come in proportionally with the difficulty levels (with minor luck-based variations), but I could be wrong.
