Fair play to Gerrard he didn't exactly pick the easiest team to manage in the Premier League. I'm still undecided whether I'd like him at Liverpool when Klopp leaves in 2024. I'd much rather Klopp sign on for longer no matter the options obviously, but if there's better options than Gerrard out there I'd like to go for them instead. Gerrard has taken the right step though, if he can prove himself in the Premier League, especially with a recovering Aston Villa that makes me optimistic post Klopp.

On the flip side, this could go wrong, and Gerrard might fall victim to the Lampard treatment. Though, I think he has mitigated that by not joining a bigger team, and starting with smaller steps. Unlike Arteta, and Frank Lamaprd who immediately joined their previous clubs they played for. I'm aware that Gerrard managed Rangers with great success, but I think the Premier League is quite a leap, and Aston Villa will be a tremendous undertaking as I think they've looked lack luster ever since losing Grealish to Manchester City.

Honestly Gerrard deserves a much better them then Aston Villa,he had an amazing results with Rangers winning them their first title after so many years.I hope one day he coaches Liverpool because he deserves it currently.Hopefully with Aston Villa he dosent terrible results but it will be a big challenge for him to coach them

Gonna be a magical day. My favorite fotball player
God this guy spent 17 years in Liverpool ... now I will be more likely to prioritize Aston Villa in my predictions, lol.

Scoring 10 points per round isn't that easy, but thanks to the couple of guys in our pool we know it's possible. I'm planning on scoring around 10 pts each round in the future. After all I scored 9.5 points in the very first round. Why can't I repeat it? Smiley
At the moment, I am about 20 points behind the leader, but I think this gap would have been smaller if I had not hedged my bets with predictions in the Premier League (let's say I put money on Liverpool and chose a draw in the pool). In addition, I recently discovered an interesting portal with predictions made by AI, and I will try to adhere to these predictions for a couple of weeks, so let's see what happens.

You can also refer to the statistics, but still I think that the best way to advance in the table is to evaluate the composition of the players before each match.

Quote
In the Premier League, most of the matches end with a score of 1: 1 and 1: 2 - (17.36% of matches).

ten points per round on average should be enough for complete win in the end, it is very good average - and gives around 380 points in the end - so we are early, and everything can change (113 points in 11 rounds is just above needed (IMO) 10 points/round for a total win)

Scoring 10 points per round isn't that easy, but thanks to the couple of guys in our pool we know it's possible. I'm planning on scoring around 10 pts each round in the future. After all I scored 9.5 points in the very first round. Why can't I repeat it? Smiley

10 points per round, possible? yes, but probable, No! It's easier to get an average of 10 points per round all season, but getting up to 10 points every other week is almost impossible tbvh, and the past weeks have been a clear reflection of that.

I agree with Welsh on that, Gerrard is faced with a much more difficult task than he had at Rangers, regardless of how successful he spell was over there. It would have been a different case if he were to be at Liverpool, even though the expectation would have been very much higher, I'm very sure he would have been at home.

Klopp’s existing contract expires in summer 2024. I’m thankful to Aston Villa for training Gerrard up as a PL manager so he can get some experience before taking over from Klopp (if Klopp decides to go in 2024).

Yeah, it's possible that Klopp may decide to leave when his contract will expire. Or any way, he isn't going to manage LFC forever. So, Gerrard would be good option few years. He already gained experience in Rangers and ended Celtic dominance. In Aston Villa it's not going to be easy. Don't know why, but I feel quite confident about him.
It was surprise for me that he decided to leave Rangers in middle of season, but he need new challenge, he already achieved everything what he can in Scotland.

Gerrard has been taking all the right steps so far but there's still a long way to go for him to even be considered as a candidate for the Liverpool bench. Klopp will probably leave in 2024 (he said he doesn't really see him continuing any longer and that he wants a break), he will leave a great team behind and fans who are getting used to success and challenging for trophies.

I really do hope Gerrard will at some point be good enough for Liverpool but 2024 might be just a bit too soon. But let's see how he progresses there and what kind of moves on the market will he make.

Me too! I mean, I honestly really personally thought he was wise to stay on with Gers, and he's always been saying he wants to get experience first but I suppose 3 seasons (and what a successful one it was) in Scotland is good enough to cut his teeth on.

My second favourite Liverpool player (Carra's always been the one occupying my heart oddly) and so many good memories, plus Villa is actually exciting to watch even without Grealish (who actually played against Gerrard in Stevie's last FA Cup game!)...

And yeah, we have to enjoy Klopp for these last couple of years more... I'd love to keep him but he seems set to leave and we won't stop him but what a dream if Gerrard steps in after (even if I agree with cryptofrka that it's a hard call to be ready for such demands)... and he'll have Villain training which can't be bad! Just don't want him to take the baton from Ole, yknow?

First game: Everton, then Liverpool. Sorry Stevie, but 1 win and 1 loss, all right?

One win, one loss could come the other way around Smiley So red side of Liverpool would not be too happy then.

While we are on Liverpool topic, I hear Mane has been injured, so I guess 2 out of first 3 are out, only Salah remains. African cup of nations will be make or break moment for Liverpool. They will loose a lot of players, including Salah in the best form of his life. If they get to that period without spilling too much points they have a chance for title but I expect Chelsea and City to capitalize on that plus hectic holiday schedule and run away with significant points lead to third place.

I'm pretty sure almost every Liverpool fan is hoping Klopp finds it in his heart to extend that contract. Though, I think he has been quite clear he intends not to stay after that period. At least, that's how I remember it. Never put me in charge of Liverpool, because I'd give that man a lifetime contract, and allow him to sign whatever figure he wants on the contract.

I'm not convinced Gerrard will be ready for Liverpool by then, however I appreciate him getting some Premier League experience, at a difficult club. So, the next few years (excluding this current one) will reveal whether he'll be capable of running a club like Liverpool. Though, I'd probably have him as an assistant manager if he was willing to accept it too. When Liverpool goes, Pep might be the ideal candidate for manager, and Gerrard shadowing him.

.
... and he'll have Villain training which can't be bad! Just don't want him to take the baton from Ole, yknow?

I don't know if it's Gerrard's doing or if its just the fact no one has offered him a better job, however at the moment I think he's making all the right moves to ensure long term success at a bigger club. Scottish football while competitive, and Rangers weren't exactly the best team at the time in the league was the foundation, and I've always entertained the idea of eventually having Gerrard, but always thought he needed to work his way up unlike other managers.

These smaller steps should allow him to gain the experience needed to manage a top club. Besides, I'm pretty sure Klopp, and Gerrard has been in talks about this, and who knows Gerrard replacing him might be the plan, as I take Klopp as someone who cares for the club, and isn't just collecting a paycheck. Therefore, I would expect Klopp to give him in the advice of building up rather than jumping the gun.

Both Welsh and Alexr didnt put in any prediction so I got the wooden spoon although both of them have 0 point
Yeah, I think I did post explaining my reasoning. Hilariousandco can either kick me if he wants others to have a wooden spoon, or consider me your safe guard from the spoon no matter how bad you do! I won't be putting in any more predictions.

Just put your scores in in advance. You can do them for the entire season if you want. Would actually be interesting to see how you did without changing them. You can still win the weekly round and there's going to be a consolation prize for the highest yellow cap so there's still stuff to play for.

Steven Gerrard is back in the Premier League!

https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2021/november/11/villa-announce-steven-gerrard-as-head-coach/

in one month, Villa will go to Anfield. Can't wait to hear the chants again, ♪ Steeeve Gerrard, Gerraaaaard, le'll pass the ball 40 yaaaards ♪ Gonna be a magical day. My favorite fotball player

I'm guessing Gerrard will be hoping for Klopp's job once he leaves. As long as he doesn't do shit at Villa he should be alright but I think they're a risky team to take on. They could easily see themselves relegated again this season if they don't turn their form around after 5 losses in a row.

I am thinking Villa has too good squad to end up relegated but it could be tough. Norwich is out for sure and I am thinking Burnley will be dropping this season as well. It will be a big fight to avoid that third relegation spot between Watford, Villa, Leeds and Brendford. Damn now that I written that all 4 of those teams have good squads and are playing good football on their day.

I am purposely avoiding talking about Newcastle since they are terrible at the moment but they will spend big in upcoming transfer window and try to buy their place in Premier League. We shall se if they will be able to click fast enough.

Bit early, but I would say Newcastle, Norwich, and Watford will be going down this season. Burnley are stubborn bastards, and I expect them to stay up by the skin of their teeth once again. Newcastle probably will take out their wallet, but I think there aren't going to be a lot of good enough players willing to move in January, and make an immediate impact. They'll likely be a different team next season, and they may well survive this year. However, investment doesn't bring instant success, and they've looked pretty awful this season.

Villa, Brentford, and Leeds are on the safer side of things I'd say. Still definitely possible, but Brentford have made a good start to the season, and have actually taken points of the bigger teams which will help them.

will be interesting to see reaction from Saudi owners, if Newcastle stay within relegation zone
they were not planning to buy Championship club, and they will probably pull some players in the mid-zone transfer period, but they will need time to organize and make healthy atmosphere

agree that Norwich is down, for me Leeds is safe, Brentford had a good start, Villa is solid, so Burnley, Watford and Newcastle will have to decide between themselves which one is staying in the league

Not sure, they've already bought the club so can't go back on it. Plus, I don't think this investment is particularly for immediate success. I suspect that the Saudi investors bought the club, as a PR move rather than looking to make money on the business. Getting relegated, and then getting promoted again would only solidify the support of the fans after they've seen significant investment despite going down.

I still think Burnley are too stubborn to go down. They've always had the ability to wear down teams better than them, and get either three points or one. I mean, didn't they draw with Chelsea the other day after being dominated for a large part of the match?

That hectic time around winter holiday is craziest time in Premier League. No amount of research will help you there unfortunately Smiley I know I tried, both for betting and Fantasy, best to keep bets to minimum and just enjoy.

But you didn't mean to say that everything will depend completely on luck, right? Smiley Sports betting is no dice, where literally anything can happen. That's why, being currently on the 44th place, although I hope to climb up in the top 10 during the following 3-4 months, I understand how difficult it can be. People on the higher positions are there not by accident.

There is so many games that clubs play every 3 days and sometimes every second day. That means very tired legs and/or lots of substitutions. There will be more then usual amount of surprises during this time for sure. Bench length will come into play and clubs like Chelsea and City will probably profit the most.

Alright then I'll be betting on them more often. Not when they are playing against Liverpool, of course.  Smiley

Ok since you are in 44th place I can say surely that most probably you will be doing much better than you are doing right now in January if you take the time to study more before you put your picks on.
Unless you do really bad in every round during this tight schedule, you can be sure you will be a couple of positions up at least.Never give up,it is my second participation here also and I was 12 or 13 position in the end of last Premier League, near missed that 10th little prize.

Thanks for the good wishes, mate! I'll take some more time to study for sure. I too wish you to finish ITM this this time.

~In addition, I recently discovered an interesting portal with predictions made by AI, and I will try to adhere to these predictions for a couple of weeks, so let's see what happens.
~

@icopress, thanks for the link, mate! I bookmarked it right away. AI is one the most interesting things to me currently.

But, after a quick research I want to ask you, are you sure the predictions have something to do with AI? I can't find that info anywhere.  Undecided

If that's an AI as in a literal machine calculating the results with no human curation whatsoever (so this is not like Superbru's insights picks), then I don't think it's going to be very accurate, as it mostly looks at long term trends, not short term stuff like did someone get injured during training or how is the stadium atmosphere, etc.

Doesn't matter how 'good' your squad is if they ain't playing right. Could be a tough battle between those you mention, though I think a couple of them will turn their fortunes around eventually.

If somebody had an AI that was accurate enough they wouldn't be letting others use it haha. They wouldn't need to. I'm sure if will get some games right but it takes the fun out of picking them yourselves.

I'm sure Newcastle will probably have half a new squad in the upcoming transfer window. It's going to be interesting to see who they get. I'm sure players won't be clamouring to go there straight away so they'll have to build their squad up over a few seasons, consistently climb up the table and attract some big names. It's not like City flipped their fortunes around over night but as bigger players start to go to St James' Park more will likely follow.

That is probably just some algorithm looking trough the limited database and picking out the results. Certainly not worth to pay something for it but since it is free it can be used for those games where gut feeling leave us. Probably as good guess as any.

That bold part though always come to my mind when I see people selling tips on turnovers. You know when one team leads on half time and then the other team wins. That are usually odds @20-35 and then somebody is selling them for 100EUR. Yeah right, if he had them he would just bet on them and earn millions every week.

What I'm really interested in seeing is what sort of players that will play for Newcastle, considering who they are owned by. I'm not going to dig into the political stuff here too much, but I imagine not every top player will want to go there. For example, and this is just an example since I could never imagine his even being entertained, but take Salah at Liverpool for example. Currently, there's a few issues surrounding his contract, would Newcastle be a team that you could realistically see Salah playing for, due to the political issues, I don't think I ever could even if they did become a top team.

Plus, I think plenty of other players won't want too either. I guess it depends on their personal morals, as well as how much they value money. Obviously, like you say Manchester City took many years to build up, though they did build up pretty quickly.

AI in this case wouldn't be all that impressive. AI technology is still pretty limited, and all it would do was look at the database as you say; even if it's the full database, and it would give you a percentage based prediction. I believe Sky Sports already do this while the game is on, they give you the percentage of a certain outcome, which is very likely to be AI rather than experts as they say. Anyway, back to the point it would only give you a percentage, and therefore you could do exactly what it would give you now. Basically, bet on the favourites since they statistically win more games.

I mean you could probably do that yourself just by looking at the odds haha.

I doubt they really care. Man City is owned by Abu Dhabi United Group which is part owned by Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan a member of the Saudi Royal family. It's all a load of hypocrisy anyway. I'm sure most football clubs owners are unscrupulous or have ties to dodgy stuff. Mike Ashley was hardly a well respected businessman and was pretty exploitative of workers but that's just business I guess. The UK government sells arms to the Saudi's and they don't seem to mind blowing civilians up themselves but every footballer still pays their taxes. I don't think it's morals that will get in the way and would think it would be quite unfair if it did but they will certainly have their detractors who will surely whine about this sort of stuff. I think the biggest hurdle will be getting that first star player signing. It's going to have to be a lot of money to even get them as they're still going to be playing for a mediocre side until they sign more players.
