Looking to buy 3 of these just wanted to know if I use an 850 corsair or similar will the pci-e plugs just simply plug in no more wiring episodes like the first S1s and also as ive never jumped a PSU before whats the best material to do this seen some say a paperclip but I was electrocuted once by a paperclip and don't fancy it again! is there a safer way?

Thanks people.

F

Tape up the paperclip with electrical tape, and obviously don't do it when its plugged in.

Pay Sushi to host the $1,000 plus mining device if you can't use a paperclip.   It's just safer.

Or Buy something like this on the forum/ebay/amazon/?
http://www.amazon.com/Phobya-ATX-Pin-Bridging-Plug-Pin/dp/B004L26ZHU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1391726594&sr=8-2&keywords=24pin+atx+switch

I would be very surprised if you can run 3 off an 850. Maybe 2. You need either separate power supplies or a bigger one.

The current model S1's come with PCIe connectors; just plug and go, no wiring.

You can't get electrocuted by the output from a power supply, although you can cause some nasty shorts. If you aren't comfortable with the paperclip buy a plug to do it. For example: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/5141/psu-218/FrozenCPU_24-pin_Power_Supply_Jump_Start_Connector.html

There are little switches you can buy for $9 but you would have to wait for delivery.  See robotshop.com
You can also use some stiff coated copper wire.  But for shorting it, the paperclip is the most secure.
There is tension to keep it in place and it goes in deep so it does not wobble.  I have had copper wires drop out in the middle of the night and lost hours of mining.  Never happened with a paperclip.

EDIT Here is the switch I was referring to:

or just cut the wires and solder them together, put a little heat shrink on them if you have some.

Regarding PSU's, I have decided to go with server supplies @$25 on Ebay this seems the best option if your handy with a soldering iron and have maxed out your budget.  Wink

The PSU has a switch on it, put it in the off position.
Insert paperclip between green and black wire.
Flip switch on PSU to turn it on.
Start Mining.
Profit.

Have to do it with any power supply that won't power up without a motherboard.

you could always underclock the S1, but who would want to do that Smiley

has anyone underclocked to 150gh and come up with a power number?

lets  say at 150gh you use 225 watts vs 360 watts at  180gh  and 440 watts at 200gh.

Bigger savings would come from undervolting which probably (?) requires hardware mods. They claim < 1j/gh on the chip at low voltage but no evidence the S1 can do this.

BTW, nice to see you over here Philip. Away from the pre-order madness.

I am going to order one tonight. Wish me luck.

Hi guys/gals,

For 1 unit purchase, it would be casing, 1 side(1 unit), 1 fan.

If buy 2 unit, would it be the above X 2 ie 2 casing.....
OR
1 casing, 2 sides (2 unit), 1 fan? Huh

Thanks

Sorry, I haven't really caught up with the S1s yet but is there a link to images that show the PCIe connectors on the S1s?  Though it's not beyond me to butcher PCIe cable extentions to power the S1s, I definitely prefer a clean PCIe power connection like the Cubes.

Edit:  Never mind...I found it.

An 18 AWG thermostat wire works just fine.  I have them on over a half-dozen ATX PSUs.  Strip about .25" of insulation off the ends of a 1" wire and shape into a "U".  It can be further secured with a tape over it if desired.

I have no inside info (or crystal ball) here, but I will tell you that I've ordered these through sushi twice before and one time I received the miners the day before the original promised ship date (West Coast US). The other time it was 1-2 days after.

Good luck.
