Over clocked antminer will pull about 480-560W depends on the PSU you use...  It could be possible but pushing the limit

Using a gold rated EVGA 1300 G2 (1300 watt) PSU, I have two S1's fully OC'd to 200 GH/s pulling only 750 Watts combined. Going with a gold-rated PSU makes a big difference.
750W so that's 31.25 Amps Per Ant, a quick look at the EVGA1300 it has a huge 108 Amps on a single 12V Rail.

That is an awesome PSU, you could probably get another on there with no problems..

I think the rails are the important point here, if you max them out your gonna get Volt Drop on the rails pushing up your Amps, then your protections gonna kick in.

Sushi's 480W = 40 APA. This is a lot more than your 31.25 APA probably due to the PSU being tight on Spec, a bit of Volt Drop and lower quality.

Thx for the support. Think am going to be also adding group buys and other related stuff once confirmed by sushi if would be interested to do so. Would save a lot of searching and reading though so many sections.

BTCtalk should have special group buy sections and marked sticky for honest and trusted group buys hosted by people and that is something I am intending to do on my site to provide services for people Smiley

Wow! Great analysis!
So if I get the 1050, I can run 2 Antminer? Even overclocked?

Thanks again

It will be tight but yes you could run two at a ~88.36% efficiency.

I think I said it here, I've run the corsairs and seasonics long term at over 100% load and they push some serious heat but they also push out reliable power 24/7 so I would personally be OK running two overclocked on a 1050.

Thanks for the confirmation.
~88.36% efficiency would be the Gold standard.

Lastly, any fire hazard? Last thing I want is to burn my house down ;-)

Over clocked antminer will pull about 480-560W depends on the PSU you use...  It could be possible but pushing the limit

is it possible to run an S1 overclocked with a erupter cube on a TX850M psu? If so I am in for an S1

Using a gold rated EVGA 1300 G2 (1300 watt) PSU, I have two S1's fully OC'd to 200 GH/s pulling only 750 Watts combined. Going with a gold-rated PSU makes a big difference.

So I bought a Corsair RM 850 (single rail, gold-rated) because by my calculations its 4xPCIe should support the power draw of two S1s, and I was hoping it'd work even over-clocked. If your two truly are running at 750 Watts, then although close, this PSU should be able to manage with both OC'd it sounds like, yes? From the power curve they list on the box (more marketing fluff than anything) it looks like that at 115v I'd still be well above 80% efficiency.

Hello Sushi! Thank you for shipping! Recently received 5 units, 4 of them, one day give out more than 8000 HW - errors ... Because of what they appear? What's the problem? This factory marriage? And much bang 4 fans ...

I'd bet that you will be fine with the Gold Corsair 850. I've tried a few PSU's around here. One of my PSU's approaches 900W for these two OC'd S1's, but it was a junker 1000 Watt (Cougar).

If you aren't sure, get one S1 going at full speed. Then, turn the second S1 on, but wait for 30-45 seconds. Remember, when you power them on, they only pull about 50 watts until they start mining, which can take 15-45 seconds. As soon as it starts pulling the full wattage, look for smoke and listen for sparking. Be ready to hit the switch. If all seems well, you may not be out of the woods just yet. If you aren't getting quite enough juice to the S1's, you may encounter additional X's on some of the chips. Log into the web interface and double check that you are all 0's (or maybe all but 1 or 2 0's).

That said, a Gold 850 should be no problem for 2 OC'd S1's unless you have an inefficient S1, which is a possibility, but unlikely.

And the good news is, a Gold PSU can save ~100 Watts per S1 which really adds up over a month of mining.

As soon as it starts pulling the full wattage, look for smoke and listen for sparking. Be ready to hit the switch.

You have issues.

Plug in one ant.  Wait for it to mine for 30 minutes grab a killowatt reading.

Unplug it.

Plug in the other ant.  Wait for it to mine for 30 minutes, grab a killowatt reading.

Add the two readings together.  If it's under the PSU max then hook both of them up.

This isn't a true reading though.  The PSU is going to burn a lot more heat at 90% load than at 50% load and the power efficiency will drop.  For those of you who don't want to "Look for Smoke and Listen for Sparking" this more conservative approach may help.   Grin

You make a good point. I did not intend to argue against doing basic math and confirming each S1's own individual power draw before combining, especially when the numbers are tight.

I should have mentioned it and you make a good point. That said, when some PSU's get within 80% of their limit, we learn their limit is lower that advertised. When most PSU's go down, they more or less self destruct. However, some have a tendency to shoot too much power to the device they are attached to. I'm just encouraging people to be ready to hit the switch if it does go bad, because I think most people will watch it run for 10 seconds and go off to the next room -- these don't even power up to near-full-speed for 30+ seconds.

At least make sure you are running on 240 V.  Another few percent improvement from that at almost no cost.

240 is pretty rare for home miners in the US.

Sure but its not very difficult or expensive in most cases (excluding maxed out box, etc.) to convert a 120 circuit to 240 or install a new 240 circuit.  If you are spending thousands of dollars on miners and hundreds per month on electricity this is a small investment to make.

Watts = watts regardless the source voltage, sure it takes less amps but you don't pay per amp do you? kWh is the standard and for reference, 20A x 120V = 10A x 240V and both will use 2400W. Granted the efficiency of the power supply might slightly better (I have yet to find any that would offer any significant difference). If by some chance you decide you want to run 240V make sure to hire an Electrician to do so (Then you have to figure his cost into the few percent difference you may have).

I tried wifi with my miner (not an antminer, though). Not worth the time and effort. Wifi is not reliable, adds latency and errors. Wired ethernet is the best, and in my case, it's the only way.

Looking to buy 3 of these just wanted to know if I use an 850 corsair or similar will the pci-e plugs just simply plug in no more wiring episodes like the first S1s and also as ive never jumped a PSU before whats the best material to do this seen some say a paperclip but I was electrocuted once by a paperclip and don't fancy it again! is there a safer way?

Thanks people.

Tape up the paperclip with electrical tape, and obviously don't do it when its plugged in.
