"why?"

Customs officials found out the true value of these Antminers and requested that Bitmain use the real value on the customs paperwork.

What do you mean by dead?  Is the ethernet jack's lights blinking?  Do you have the first one still plugged in?  If so, did you change the static ip address or set it to dhcp?  You may just have an ip address conflict.

When you are trying to network more than 1 of these things, first thing I do is reset it.  Hold in the little black button for a few seconds.
https://github.com/AntMiner/AntGen1/blob/master/manual/AntMiner%20FAQ.pdf
Now, set your routers starting address to 100, then reboot it.  All your devices will now have addresses of 100 or higher to avoid a conflict.  Plug in your antminer and it will grab 99.  Login and change the static ip to 98.  Done.  Now reset the second miner then plug it in.  It will grab 99.  If you have more, set the guy at 99 to 97.  Repeat.  Also, check that you have the latest firmware in the kernel log Feb. 07, 2014.  If not, grab it here and flash it.
https://github.com/AntMiner/AntGen1/tree/master/firmware

If its truly busted, you could probably jtag it, ssh in, and setup wifi manually.  BUT, I'd just send it back.

Edit: I just saw your post about it not lighting up.  Yeah, send it back.

It's a shame this seller ...

I received several u1, and some are full of dust, with the nail of that well-heated circuits ...

We quickly understood that he destoke the U1 (AntMiner Hosting 3-month) after he actually shot for 3 months!

And now he give a voucher of BTC 0,024, when he sold the NEW u1 for BTC 1,45 !

I have to think the ethernet card is dead.

I can do one more test I can trade cables from a good machine to the machine with the dead eth card.

if the card lights up then it is just a dead cable.

I emailed sushi-review for a support part or rma .

So far 19  hours of no hash time. My email was sent an hour ago and I posted on threads about 10 hours ago.

Shame as this  delay will make this buy a loser Since time is money.

I will continue to post on this rma as it will help people decide if buying and mining with this gear is worthwhile.

I will post back to let you know if cable swap worked.

Please explain how to get wifi running without Ethernet. I have to configure mine through the Ethernet connection as the GUI is unresponsive through wifi. It also for some inexplicable reason will not initiate from wifi. I must establish a connection with Ethernet first and then disconnect the umbilical cord.  Roll Eyes

I believe you have to access into the machine to turn the wi-fi on, and yes this is a problem with no ethernet.

It's not only being able to configure but also simply won't connect configured. If wifi drops the unit goes idle until I connect a cable long enough to re-establish the wifi. The wireless router solution presented was a band aid. We should really have a fix at least for it establishing the wifi connection on it's own. I can live with having to connect a cable to initially configure.

I  live to close to a military base that has historically buried my wi fi connections. So I have 0 wi fi gear in my home.  Besides the wi fi and the ethernet are on the same card So if the ethernet is dead most likely the wi fi is dead. I swapped all the little white cables from one of the good s-1's to the dead one the dead one is still dead.  the bales from the dead card work on the card on the other s-1

It truly appears that I have a dead controlling card or at least the part that does the ethernet. I am waiting for a reply from sushi.  I would like to think shipping just that card to me and letting me attach it should be a fix.

Yes, flat faced radar arrays don't help wifi Bitcoin mining. I hope they see the sense in expediting you a card. Seems like the path of least resistance. Please keep us posted as this appears to be the Achilles heel of the unit.
