The sync jumps are related with pre-1.7 clients. Those are rejecting blocks of the main network and continuing with their own chain. It is harmless to 1.7+ users, but distracting.

Anyone has an estimate on number of pre-1.7 nodes out there?

What if on next version, we reject connections with 1.6 and below? 1.6 and below would have their own cluster (currently 1.7+ nodes impose a limit on them), would have difficulty connecting to other nodes (as everyone moves to 1.9), and will eventually see that they need to download the new version.

I guess this is possible as peers announce their protocol version and client version on connection establishment. But I cannot foresee the effects of removing 1.7+ nodes from 1.6 network and let them roam freely with their blockchain.

it is better to NOT pump the price up higher and beyond MINT's infrastructure can support. We need to keep adding merchants and keep adding services. If the price is low right now it is not necessarily bad. The good thing I see is that MINT has already endured a bear market, and is now basically "flat-lining" and establishing a Solid Floor. Once the momentum starts to turn to the upside, it could really take off again. There really is very little holding MINT down right now. Just be glad Mintcoin is very undervalued right now, and take the time to establish life-long positions. This is the time to be telling your friends and family, to get a good hold in early. I am beginning to sense that the majority of the Mintcoin holders now are long-term investors and that it is only up from here, but will still take time. Mintcoin is likely to be a coin for more mature, calculating investor types.

My gut feel is that there will be a point in the future where MINT will explode in price. That point in time is not far from now and it won't go down from that point. The value will eventually catch up with the infrastructure and this will cause the price to skyrocket.

This 100%.

Just look at the last few pages to see all Mint has going for itself.

-All security concerns were immediately addressed.
-Coin control added
-QR support added
-Android wallet on the way
-Vault of Satoshi on the way
-Foundation started
-20% Annual gain on coins held, minted at 20 day intervals

I only wish I had more cash to invest, Mint is definitely set to EXPLODE

just letting people no that i have just updated from 1.7 to 1.8 without any problems so far. 1.7 kept jumping out of sync for me, so far 1.8 has not jumped out of sync and synced up pretty fast idk y Smiley
when i installed 1.7 i done a clean install like everyone said to do. with 1.8 i only replaced the mintcoin.conf file in %appdata% and is working really well, i have not yet received pos or minted coins on 1.8 yet as ive only been getting minted coins every couple of days with other wallets so we shall wait a couple days and see how it goes
also
great to see devs and the community working hard to get this coin accepted on more places keep it up guys

Hey! Prelude has USD and Mint in the same place: https://prelude.io/
I think Vault of Satoshi will have MINT markets soon. I don't see Australia listed as one of the countries that they don't allow verification in, so that is good news.

okay cool thanks ill check it out  Grin
also
is anyone else mintcoin wallet using a lot of cpu, mine hovers around 20% on a dual core windows 8 pc and sometimes it goes as high as 40% even if its synced and up to date

Anyone noticed the biggest mint share holder sold almost 400mil mint the last 3 weeks. Seems to me this is causing the price slowly going down. Also it should be a good thing that his shares are dropping, I rather see the mints spread out more.

My wallet hasn't worked since V1.7. On 1.7 I could at least open the wallet, it just wouldnt sync. Now with 1.8 it wont even open the fricken wallet, im about to loose it....

see this image for more info - http://puu.sh/82MDA.jpg
Giving syncing messages is OK and harmless, there are STILL some 1.6 clients on the network who try to follow another blockchain, and they cause confusion on 1.7+ clients. But only the estimated number of blocks is incorrect, everything works fine.

For your problem, it seems like that file got corrupt (I don't know why 1.7 accepts it and 1.8 does not). I would advise you to backup your wallet.dat (actually you can backup entire .MintCoin folder), delete the other files, and start 1.8 with only wallet.dat there.

It might be an exchange's cold wallet. I think people would start withdrawing their MINT from exchanges as coin control arrived. I withdraw all my mint from the exchange yesterday. They can mint on my computer, and I can choose to send back the correct ones if I need to

Or it might be the owner sending to another address / wallet for security or manual coin control

Last night, my wallet said I had a stake incoming of ~90'000. Then it disappeared and turned into a stake of 1000.
I'm on the latest wallet (1.8 ). Is this common? I've never seen it before. Will I ever get those 90'000 back ?

I just come back from the post office. The Mintcoin Bylaws are on the way to the French administration. It should have them by Mibnday. From then, it will take one month to have them accepted, registered and published.

Thank you so much repair wallet totally worked. Appreciate it.

OK, I traced all the code from creation of a PoS block to acceptance of a local/remote generated PoS block, to reorganization of the block chain on orphaned PoS blocks. Everything seems to be in order. Maybe there was a multithread locking bug somewhere and your wallet was confused as a result of it. Under normal circumstances, you shouldn't have any problems.

First, backup your wallet.dat.

Open your wallet, enter debug console, and run "checkwallet". It will check if there are any inconsistencies between known blockchain and your wallet. It may be helpful. If it finds anything, you can run "repairwallet" and it will sync them. I think it will find your 1M coins

Also redownloading blockchain may help you, but try checkwallet first and let us know what happened. It may help us understand the source of the problem.

thanks

@5flags Can you also run checkwallet and report its results ?

Ahhh, found your problem. Do you have coins in stake?

40 days ago you received 2M
20 days ago, you minted 22k coins -- it works by sending out 2M, and receiving a little more in 2 transactions; 1M + 1M
Today, as 20 days passed, one of those 1M transactions generated a PoS block, it spent the 1M and would receive 500k+500k + 11k minted coins. Confirmed says FALSE, so it means the transaction is not accepted by the blockchain yet (It won't be confirmed until 50 blocks pass, during that time, you cannot spend the original 1M as it's already spent, and you cannot spend the newly generated 500k+500k+11k as it didn't arrive yet). But you should see the missing 1M in Stake

Please check it

HELP!!! missing mint coin

I opened my wallet today and it shows half of my original amount. But there have been no transactions out.

The block explorer is showing the correct balance, but it also shows 2 tranaction that don't appear in my wallet software. Can anyone help?

guys i'm wondering if its possible to include some free mint with every wallet? you know like an automated faucet? that way as soon as you install your wallet and the blockchain is updated you automatically receive 10 MINT or something. I think people would like it and then they can instantly send their friends some coins or receive some. And they see that the wallet actually works. Only a few people know how to access an exchange and buy coins. That's too complicated for a beginner.

what do you think? of course there would have to be a way to protect the wallets from being scammed automatically  Tongue
