So, an update on the dev of XFK. This week turned out to be surprisingly busy, but I'm doing dev work today. n00bnoxious pretty much finished work on the new CPU algo we are going to use! So excited. High five to him! Nice work mate! Keep up the good work. Music is universal <3

It's my birthday today so what a nice present! It's funny how everything just kind of becomes clear and we just blaze through. I had a feeling you were going to find a day this week to be a code ninja. In the meantime some major music releases are planned, so these are very exciting times!

I'm continuing today with some coding (I'm enjoying it too much).

It's my birthday today so what a nice present! Happy Birthday, here have some Funk... Wow, I knew for sure I didn't mine that much when I looked at my wallet this morning.. I looked through my history and saw a nice birthday gift had been deposited into my Cypherfunks wallet! Thanks a whole huge bunch! Now I will release some music quick!

Looks like n00bsys0p's P2P pool went down, so the only one up and working right now is 0x0a's...

I've been thinking about how it would be nice if we didn't need Soundcloud. Ideally, I imagine a decentralized replacement for it running on a blockchain. You can build on top of blockchains, so why not make a decentralized Soundcloud-like service with all the features we want?

That's the holy grail. I think that's what we plan to work towards eventually. But it's no easy feat. Should be interesting to see going ahead how tools like Maidsade, Storj and Ethereum could in maintaining such a network!

This baby is growing teeth. What I imagine is a program that looks like your standard QT wallet (or not, people like different). It let's you do all the things a wallet does. It also has a music player that ONLY plays songs uploaded to Cypherfunks. The music would play, and the software would show the Artist/Song info. There would be a nice big 3D 'TIP' button (j/k) that would allow the listener to enter the amount of the tip and click send. Boom.. coins transferred to artist. So from an artists end: they would upload a digitally watermarked song to the P2P Cypherfunks network. Tag it with Artist and Song info, including their XFK wallet address. From the listeners end they would hear the song, see the artist/song info and be able to tip them right there from the software with their XFK. 100% (or quite near that ) goes to the artist. Maybe a tiny, percentage for network costs or something.

Your ideas are definitely on the right track!

I also am thinking of how we could use the P2P torrent network to download and stream songs in the player. Those downloading would click-to-wait, providing the availability for the click-to-stream music delivery (discovery) service. Tags in the audio torrent could be read to enable a search engine and song discovery service.
Like in Soundcloud where you have a search box where you type "Sax" and it comes up with all kinds of sax related tracks etc.. You could do something similar with torrents, and enable a person to tip the musician in the wallet/player.
So basically, the wallet/player could also be a P2P torrent client that seeds music onto the P2P network, while allowing for streaming/downloading and tipping.
BitTorrent streaming can work flawlessly. You can stream them directly in any browser.
EDIT: Put.io is a good example of this.
I don't think for this part we need much crypto-currency coding. It's more integrating with existing music delivery technologies. Look how Soundcloud is built. It's remarkably simple and effective. It makes money hogging server storage space and meting it out like their gold drops. Imagine a Soundcloud-like service based on P2P networks (with a tip button). The upload amount would be limitless, and all the features Soundcloud provides are already there.

I've been thinking about this for days. Recent statistics released by Tru Optik estimate that every month more media content is downloaded by file sharers than are sold on iTunes, Google Play and Amazon combined. That's more listeners than Soundcloud, Spotify, etc., combined. http://torrentfreak.com/mininova-launches-content-distribution-servoce-071221/I checked the amount of downloads of a random song on Mininova's content distribution service and it was over 11,000 downloads. Soundcloud, iTunes and Spotify are dead and have been for a while now. They just don't know it yet.

Got my P2Pool node back up and running the other day... Turned out my VPS provider changed DCs and thus all their IP addresses. Would have been nice to have an "URGENT" email rather than just a standard "routine maintenance" one, but ho hum.
Also mostly got the kinks in the CPU algo worked out, just fiddling about a bit to make sure it's nice and secure. Considering another change to it as there's no rush this very moment. Realistically it can be one of the last things added to the new coin - implemented shortly before the new genesis blocks are mined.
AWESOME ideas for future musical concepts though I must say - very much in line with how I see things progressing once we sink our teeth in properly!

We have plenty of the ol' Funk coins to mine here in these parts still. There's no rush, so make it the best algo you can! I'm super-excited to hear your progress.
