Yes, that would be best when i would really go after mining. But i only are 3 days a week away for 7 hours and there i  cant do much more than using my notebook. The power is free and so i thought i could try to play a kind of lotto and solomine bitcoins/litecoins. In my notebook i cant implement a faster gpu because of the space. I already replaced the 8600m gt with the 9600m gt some time ago.

So what i want to do is only use the time and free power there. Maybe im lucky and get some coins. Smiley

Please ALWAYS contact me through bitcointalk pm before sending someone coins.

You'll definitely want to use some sort of pool. I'd personally argue for P2Pool, whatever you mine is mined directly to your own wallet. After 120 confirmations (network rule) they're there sitting in your wallet when you want them; no downtime, no waiting, no minimum payout, etc. If you're up for setting up your own node that's one way, or there's a list of public P2Pool nodes here and a list of public LTC P2Pool nodes here

+1

If you're mining part time, PPS is the way to go.

If you're mining full time, PPLNS will usually pay a few percent higher.

But theoretically there shouldnt be a difference. I mean when when i mine 1.000.000 hours solo and mine 1.000.000 hours at a zero-fee pool i should have made the same amount of litecoins, dont you think? So when i would poolmine, i would see a very slow growing, when i would solomine, it would be some kind of lotto, where i could win some litecoins when im lucky. Am i right or is there something other i dont know or thought of?

Thats not a so big problem. The notebook is old and a replacementcard would be cheap. On top the gpu is downvolted by me for a lower temperature and overclocked. So while mining i dont get temperature over 78°C. And now im good at working on notebooks. I replaced gpu with a faster one and even was able to change the motherboard, and that isnt an so easy task. So i dont fear to lose the card. Its running anyway so i can try to get a bit for the free power. Wink

Sorry for my newbiesness, but can litecoin be mined with a bitcoin (asic) machine? Or would the ASIC have to be coded for litecoin or would litecoin mining just need a new program to run the asic? or is litecoin just for cpu's?

Thanks for putting up with the simple question.

Bitcoin today is what the internet was in 1998.

Any question is welcome here, thanks for asking!

Bitcoin ASIC machines (like the ones Butterfly Labs is making) can only be used for solving hashes of the form: sha256(sha256(seed)). Litecoin uses a different mining algorithm, so Bitcoin ASICs cannot mine Litecoins. A new ASIC would have to be developed with different hard-coded circuits to be able to mine Litecoins.

Litecoin can now be mined on GPUs (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=92887.0) and CPUs (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55038.0). GPUs can mine Litecoins much faster than a CPU can.

Thank you for the answer. It looks like when the Asic is developed by BFL, most of the GPU miners will start using their machines to mine litecoins (once mining bitcoin becomes unprofitable).. That would be interesting. It may give a boost to the litecoin...

Has anyone put an ltc CPU miner on a 64 core Interlagos system? I don't have that kind of cash to invest in one, but I'd be interested in seeing what it could do.
