We'll get the new wallet running tomorrow. There's a few things I'm going to be working on so I'll get it all done at once.
Any noteworthy changes with the new version?

Source updated on GitHub + updated Windows and Mac OS X wallets released. Although not required, we do suggest updating at your earliest convenience. Just to clarify does the source need to updated for pool owners? No - it's an optional upgrade across the board. What has been changed in the new version? We'll get the new wallet running tomorrow. There's a few things I'm going to be working on so I'll get it all done at once.
Any noteworthy changes with the new version?
Adjusted default file attributes, added checkpoints, made some modifications to the language files - nothing that would make the upgrade a requirement/priority. However, a couple of minor issues have caused some snags for a handful of individuals building from source and these adjustments should rectify those issues.

While checking things out this morning I noticed a major oversight on my part. When things got moved around for added stability, I forgot to point octostratum2 to the new wallet location, so it's been sitting there doing a lot of nothing! If anyone's wondering why they couldn't mine on it, it's because of sysop stupidity! It's fixed now, so anyone mining in Europe or that side of the globe, if you notice rejected shares, please use [Suspicious link removed]:3333.
Meanwhile, the pool at [Suspicious link removed] is chugging along nicely, staying steady at 85MH, but we could definitely use more miners! Saturday is our first 25% giveaway and it's not too late to come mine with us for your chance to win! I have added a live webchat link to the site as well, if you have any issues or just want to say hi, you can reach me in there, unless I'm at work or sleeping.
If things keep going the way they've been going, I may get to quit my lousy job at Dollar General soon and be a full time sysop, wouldn't that be nice? The only good thing about that job is hiding the 90% off items so we can buy them for ourselves, haha!
Good luck with that! I always cheer for anyone that can quit a grind job like that to do something they like or love to do. Keep up the good work! When I add my next rig i'm gonna check out your pool. Thanks for the support! I'd love to have your hashes at my pool! The more, the better, and the fatter the prize gets on Saturday! Looks like I may have this full time sysop gig sooner than I thought, though . . . Some real-world situations just can't be avoided without either walking away or losing your mind (and possibly your freedom). Online is a different story, I can switch my computer off, if only some humans were equipped with an off switch (maybe just mother in laws and exes)! My pool is doing great, but I personally mine next to nothing with my lousy 30kh There's quite a few things I want to do, quite a few ideas in my head for some more services or fun things, gotta start bringing in a little more money so I can afford more servers and get a little more intimate with PHP. I've gotten a few emails about me using free domain names, that nobody will take me seriously.. I don't get it, it's free, it's quick, and easy. I'm thrifty, not lazy! lol

Things have been pretty quiet for Octocoin today.
Block reward is about to go way down.
Voting going pretty well on Cryptorush! Almost all votes are from users since as I write this, only 0.00147265 BTC worth of votes have been paid for.
Still hoping to hear some news from the devs about some real plans for what Octocoin might do...

During these first couple of weeks, we will continue to release and tweak the basics while also continuing to build our community and improve our web presence. For example, we will be updating the 888 website to make it more informative; we want octocoin.org to become a resource for crypto-currency in general. We intend to use OctoCoin to attract businesses and individuals to crypto-currency for the first time and if we can jumpstart their education from within, 888 grows from the inside out. Looking just beyond that, there are some quality releases nearing completion ranging from gaming to professional business services. We will include a progress tracker at octocoin.org once we reach a point in development on our projects where approximate estimates become possible. This should all take us into the middle of April.
Without revealing too much at this stage, a big focus going forward will be the OctoCoin startup incubator and crowdfunding system allowing investors and entrepreneurs from all over the world opportunities never before thought possible. Not all startups we select will be in the crypto-currency space, but they will all be attempting to raise a portion of their capital through a round of OctoCoin crowdfunding. More details on how this will all work will be unveiled as we move further along in the development stages.
The coin is only a small part of the vision, but it all starts with the coin. We are quite pleased with how quickly this community has been growing and several members of the 888 community have gone above and beyond to help us jumpstart OctoCoin and begin educating others.
If we can parlay this early success into continued momentum, it will carry us onto the runway. Altcoins have gone stale. There is a pivot on the horizon. 888

I can't wait to see the website update. I also am pro anything related to crowd funding or raising money for organizations and charity. I've always thought those were areas where crypto can be strong and really win over the general public. The thought of making the site educational to the newer potential users is smart. You can't promote your alt coin only to people who are already in the mix and hope it will be successful. It'll be interesting to see how crowd funding can drive the price of a coin.

From the Home webpage:"A currency by itself has no impact; with its powerful business component, OctoCoin will begin moving altcoins out of basements and into skyscrapers. The most compelling cryptocurrency in history will follow its zero gravity launch with a steady flow of the most technologically advanced services and offerings the crypto world has ever seen. Don't blink." From the devs last update post:Without revealing too much at this stage, a big focus going forward will be the OctoCoin startup incubator and crowdfunding system allowing investors and entrepreneurs from all over the world opportunities never before thought possible. Not all startups we select will be in the crypto-currency space, but they will all be attempting to raise a portion of their capital through a round of OctoCoin crowdfunding. More details on how this will all work will be unveiled as we move further along in the development stages. Thoughts:I'm excited to see how all this will work out. I'm ready to fast forward to April. I am curious about what connections there were at SXSW and wether they were made prior to the event or new contacts during the event. For a coin that was launched at SXSW, I wish there were more articles about this but really there's no info to write about even in a blog. Granted, Bitcoin in general seemed to have a good showing at SXSW and got some decent media attention. I wonder if there was anything filmed for Octo at SXSW? As far as the crowd funding and business aspect, that seems to be their focal point, so they might have some contacts and plans that they feel will give them an advantage in somehow advancing cryptos use compared to other devs. Not many alts do a great job of trying to get their coin implemented. Of course, BTC, LTC, and PPC seem to have done that. Doge seems to have the Reddit community on lock still. The privacy coins, as I like to call them, are a small portion and of course will only cater to core users, but I expected more of the darknet use to drive prices on those coins. I'm not even sure how many darknet retailers employee the use of DarkCoin or Anoncoin. Maybe when Anon implements ZeroCoin it will help drive the use and price up. I kinda expected BTC to be replaced by a more secure, private coin by now on the darknet and assumed those prices would get a good bump on those coins. After all that is listed above, as exciting as crypto is, sometimes the alts do feel stale. Sometimes it feels like everything launches and then fades in stages. All these coins are created and really nothing is living up to the potential. Of course, these cycles must happen during growth, but come on, besides btc, ltc or ppc has anyone purchased anything with any other alt? Maybe it's just me. I'm hoping this coin will be different. Don't get me wrong I love reading and learning about alts and I appreciate everyone's input and work because it's helped me learn a lot about crypto. But at some point I don't like to feel like I'm just spinning my wheels and mining coins just to get paid. I wish there was a coin that would give you something more to be excited about. What things do you see that other coins have done and it worked well? What things have you seen other coins do that was a horrible idea and Octo should stay away from? What things do you think are great ideas for a coin to try that you have not seen done yet, or at least done yet? What kind of ideas do you think Octo should pursue? Out of all the coins you could mine, what made you point your rig at Octo? Hundreds of options and you jumped on the bandwagon. So something stood out. Even from a financial standpoint with the 888 block reward, you still do not know if the coin will hit or miss. You could be mining at a loss but you chose to mine Octo anyways. The devs have been kind of mysterious in a lot of areas. That makes some people uneasy and we've had a light few naysayers/scamyellers. But I mean we are all still here. There is some type of faith there. In a way I really think it helped the coin that they had a capped coin, incentive like 888 reward, but not overkill like 8888 block reward, a good wallet, devs have been active on the boards and reddit and the mysterious SXSW launch. Oh well, I'll shut up for now. Just trying to analyze what I think about this coin. Can't wait to hear some of your thoughts. Oh, and if you are bored and want to be nice to someone for no reason check out my post here: http://www.reddit.com/r/octocointip about /r/amiugly.
