Not sure about this. IMO, they have consistently underperformed. This time they actually managed to win matches, and that should be a big relief for them. But in order to justify the increased fund allocation from the ICC, they need to win matches on a regular basis, and that too against strong teams. Winning matches against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan once is a while is not going to help for too long. The world cup is just a few months away. Their performance in Australia will be closely watched before the fund allocation for 2024-31 cycle.

The fact is that Ireland lost all the matches against New Zealand and South Africa, despite having the home advantage. Some of the players (such as Harry Tector) played well, but Ireland failed overall as a team. They lost some close matches which they could have won. Considering this, I don't think that there are a lot of positives to take away from their series against NZ and SA. First and foremost, they need to improve their bowling skills. Poor bowling (both pace and spin) was the reason behind most of their defeats.

Agree with you that any team performs well in its own venue. It's not just Ireland. You can look at the position of Bangladesh where they are very strong at their own venue, but abroad they lost the series against Zimbabwe. Many such countries do well on their own ground.

The Irish bowling is what had ruined the Afghan's chances to have a competitive game. Ireland always had a really good batting attack but the bowling used to be lacking. The pitch really helped the bowlers and the Irish took out the Afghan openers for just 2 runs between themselves. A good start like that was capitalized, later on. It is a 5 match series for T20. 3 to go. Afghanistan has to respond now, if they have any ambitions of winning the series.

What happened to Afghanistan? Such a horrible performance. If they had at least 140 runs on the board, then there was a chance. But target of 123 was too small. Ireland still struggled to reach their target, with Paul Stirling once again getting out cheaply. Harry Tector and Curtis Campher also disappointed. They managed to win the match, but not in a convincing manner. Anyway, for now Ireland will be relieved. They are having second consecutive win, after 5 successive defeats. Ireland can play spin but the pitch is suitable for pacers I guess. In all Ireland has shown that it can fight & perform well with the big team, which they have shown recently in the concluded matches. No doubt Afghanistan is very good team compare to Ireland but keep one thing in mind they can face dilemma in SENA with fast bowling and batting both are their weakest points, and they have no experience in both departments which needs to settle as soon as possible with just spinners and average batting you can't win against professional teams.
 
I was reading they have good domestic setup but sadly right now these are just going with T20 and ODI which is good, but they need some good investment for development and better results but in last few days we have few big concerns like USA drone attack and few suicided attackers which kill high profile Taliban's, so they have no positive chance for staying in good shape.
