Just took possession of a new Bitmain S2. Capacitors are installed on the blades and the physical design has been modified to include a card hold down front and back. Also has a cutout in the side for the PSU intake. Everything arrived intact with no loose boards or other problems. I am working on setting it up now. Ethernet isn't being cooperative … checking cables etc.

I love the Antminer logo and Bitmain name embossed on the cover Smiley Unboxing photos to follow once its running.

[edit]
I'm in (ssh) … loose ethernet cable from the controller to the front panel. I seated both ends with a little push and everything is now good.
Can't wait for the rest of 'em to arrive.

[edit]
A few minutes later - hashing at 1032.12 Ghs, all ASICS reported good.

Such a pleasure doing business with a company that does what it says it is going to do when it says it is going to do it AND delivers great products from stock. Thank you BITMAIN.

Is the PSU inside still the Enermax 1000 W?

Thanks.

fyi,  regarding the message I posted earlier about only getting ~920 gh/s with my S2.  It seems that only happens with p2pool.  I get the expected hashrate with Eligius.  Furthermore, it's not just p2pool reporting it low, the S2 itself reports it low.

I see now there is a way to transfer coupon codes. I have 8 S2 coupons and willing to give them to someone who can use them, in exchange for a small donation in BTC I suppose. PM me with considering amount you're willing to donate for these coupons.

There is not enough power available to OC the unit anywhere near those levels.

A couple of EVGA 1300s and some bigger VRMs should do nicely.

hmmm …. the S2 /config/asic-freq.config looks just like the S1 /etc/config/asic-freq ….

How do plan to handle up to 2.6kW of heat with the current cooling setup of the S2?

I was just about to ask that.  Furthermore, it will no longer be house-friendly and would only be relegated to the data center.

Well, for starters a 2TH S2 probably wouldn't generate 2.6 kW of heat, more likely ~2KW (I haven't done an analysis), but how about modifying an old fridge with some power sockets on the back wall ? That should satisfy the 'house friendly' crowd and the 'there is no way' crowd at the same time LOL

In any case, doubling the hashpower is an extreme case … it would be nice to get an extra 40% out of a machine which costs less than $2000 retail and whose price in a group buy is significantly less. The ideal scenario would be to OC it to the point where it could still run on a 15-20amp 120v circuit. Think an SP10 level machine without all the noise for ~$1600 ...

I don't believe the average fridge is designed for the duty cycle required to continually cool bitcoin mining hardware.

Personally I wouldn't call a doubling of the hashpower an extreme case, it's the upper bound of the suggestion made by Bitmain.  My expectation is a node size shrink and cheap upgrade cards that use the existing backplane and heat sinks.
OC'ing the S2 is a poor idea IMO, it makes much more sense to just go buy S1s which are cheaper and better suited to handle the added power consumption in both cooling and dc/dc power regulation.

OC to 2TH is pretty impossible to do, i think that they are planning to sell discounted hw to all the ppl that have already bought s2.

Lets analyse it a bit more:

A short good news for the S2 buyer is that we will let the S2 to upgrade to 1.8TH/s or 2TH/s at very low cost which you can only image now in the August or September. It still depends on many factors to let us achieve that and detailed plan needs to be drafted, But we are very confident that we can make it.

-"upgrade to 1.8TH/s or 2TH/s at very low cost "

I believe is more like a hardware upgrade, rather than a coupon.

All is Mine!
