The polls asked whether the Russian public favors military intervention in Ukraine or not. Not more than 40% were in favor. People know the human and economic cost associated with such an adventure. |

Even during the 2011 elections, the UR could gather less than 50% of the votes. If they lose another 5-10%, then they might lose control of the parliament. I wouldn't call it reducing to rubbles (and yes, I looked through the Reuters photos). There are damages indeed but they are rather local since we see windows with unbroken pane glass and nearby houses intact. Surely not what Grozniy looked like after it had been finally taken by the federals (let alone Stalingrad in 1943 or Berlin in 1945)...  |
