I'm wondering if this is something that the people who originally donated the money would all approve of. True, $1,000 USD is only about BTC13 now - a fraction of the BTC100 we originally planned to distribute to each charity - but still, this does stray a bit from part of the initial goal, which was to convince charities that accepting Bitcoin is beneficial to them (global donations, no fees, no chargeback risks, etc).

You are right about that, it is not the initial goal of btc100, although it is indeed a good cause.
I sent more Bitcoins than were used, so you may use some/all of mine for the documentory. You have a better overview on the funds though, your (Rassah/Bruno) decision.

It would still be more appropriate to start your own thread. Discussing your site here detracts from discussion of Bitcoin100.

Although the off-topic post from a newbie (sorry Jr. member) was correctly called out by edd I think that the problem wrt donations going to charity or to other things such as documentary films needs to be nipped in the bud.

Rather than argue about the merits one way or the other about such things what I think should be done is fairly simple - create separate donation addresses for each "target" and forget the Bitcoin1oo vanity address (I would be much happier to donate in the future if I know what it is that I am donating towards).

The whole point is to motivate non-profits to accept Bitcoin. I did that, and here I am posting about it both to document it and to call the organizers' attention to it.

The point is to get NGOs to accept Bitoin donations. We collect 1000$ (100BTC before) worth of bitcoins to get them started.
He, Mike, got a registered non-profit organization to accept Bitcoin donations. I think he now asks for the 1000$ in Bitcoin to be donated to them, from Bitcoin100, and rightfully so.

Maybe I missed something with the whole documentary thing going on as I have never heard of this one before that post - I thought only Bruno was to be contacting the charities on behalf of Bitcoin 100 and so this didn't seem right to me.

..not that I am aware of.
At least the BUND charitie was contacted and "aquired" by one of us users here.

It just seems to have veered off from *charities* which was where it started - I am sorry if my post was wrong (although I don't appreciate being questioned as to whether I am "high") - feel free to ask a mod to delete both those posts (his response to my post doesn't make him look so good either).

I was one of the first to donate and did so 3 times but I just don't think this thing is working like it used to (and am not keen on the "new way").

Nope. Anyone can contact charities. It's actually encouraged, since there's so few of us, we're typically busy, and really the only rule is, "Get a charity to accept Bitcoin donations, we send them $1,000." That's about it.

This wasn't a charity, this was someone trying to start a copycat service. There really is no need for one, unless they want to have different rules (or take the money), since Bitcoin100 is very open with letting people help and get donations sent.

I didn't know nothing about BTC100 before I bought the domains. Only after I chanced upon this thread. Perhaps buy my domains? Or see if BTC100.com is available.

The Director of a local charity, Generations of Hope, heard a piece on Bitcoins today on NPR.  I have been trying to convince them to accept Bitcoins, but they are not sure it is worth the effort.  I think now might be the right time to strike.  I am not completely familiar with Bitcoin 100, but this seems like the right place.  I will pledge 1 BTC toward them accepting Bitcoins.

They are a nonprofit organization that supports a community of foster children, families and senior citizens.  The goal of the organization is to provide financial and community assistance to families to support adoption of hard to place children.  Additionally, the senior citizens in the community provide a "grand parent role".  They are located on an old air force base and maintain 50+ housing units for the families and senior citizens.  I am sure a few BTC could go a long way to support additional families.

Please let me know if you have any resources or advice to aid in convincing Generations of Hope to accept bitcoins.  I am confident that with sufficient motivation, they would place a donate button on their web site.

Let them know that BitPay doesn't charge transaction fees for charitable organizations, and will convert the coins to cash for them, so all they'll need to do it get a BitPay account and add the bitcoin donation button to their website (which we will gladly help with). Any coins they get will get deposited as plain cash to their bank account, and as soon as we see that they have that set up, we'll send them $1,000 worth of coins. It'll probably be the easiest $1,000 they'll earn.

Just link to their website where we can see that they have a Bitcoin donation option. That's it.
