Heart rates went up all over Suncorp Stadium tonight when the Fijian Drua nearly pulled off a massive upset over the Queensland Reds.

The Reds squeaked out of it 33-28 when Queensland’s own Fijian hero Seru Uru scored a late try and stole a Drua lineout on full-time when the islanders were pressing.

It was a crazy thriller. The Fijians were down 28-9 before scoring three quick tries to lock the scores at 28-all.

After one week of game play, our top eight are (in no particular order) Panthers, Knights, Dragons, Storm, Broncos, Raiders, Eels and Bull Dogs.



My wagers during the next couple of weeks are going to be for these teams, however, the Titans kept up with the Eels for the entire 80 minutes in their 32 - 28 loss, so I don't discount the Titans while the Cowboys managed to keep the Bull Dogs pointless loosing 6 - 4 after 80 minutes.  Any one of those three, Titans, Cowboys or Bull Dogs can move into that eighth spot over the next few weeks.  It'll be interesting to see whether or not the Broncos can continue winning.

Going forward, my top six to watch are Panthers, Knights, Dragons, Storm, Raiders and Eels. with the next four being Bull Dogs, Broncos, Titans and Cowboys.

Bottom rung are Sharks, Rabbiohs, West's' Tigers, Warriors, Roosters and Sea Eagles (who are going to have to reverse their poor showing in their first game of the season).

I'm not too well up on the NRL, last year being my first year actively following Rugby

I did a bit of research looking to see how last years finalists performed over the
previous couple of years and it seems to be predominantly Melbourne Storm and
Sydney Roosters who have since 2017 been finalists ^{Top 8} followed by
Cronulla Sharks, Parramatta Eels, South Sydney Rabbitohs and Penrith Panthers each
missing out on one season since 2017

Yea that was a close match, The Rabbitohs were quick off the mark in the second

Yes, the second half was getting stronger for the Rabbitohs, but three missed conversions (and a disallowed try) plus numerious fumbles mear metres from the try line tells me they need to practice on their days between matches.

I'm interested to see after two losses (and only one game played so far in round two) that the Rabbitohs are ahead of four other teams.



Might not get the Rabbitohs into the top eight this early, but the Tigers, Warriors, Roosters and Sea Eagles losses in round one were very substantial.

Too little, too late for the Sea Eagles who continue to languish this week with inconsistent play on-field that plagued them last week.  (the radio commentators were gushing that next week's Roosters Vs Rabbitohs game should be a great face-off.  I'll be putting money on the Roosters (probably judging by their stats after two games each).



The Dragons managed a fair sort of a game, but it wasn't enough to get ahead of the in form Panthers.

Todays first game in the Six Nations Super Saturday served up a bit of a surprise,
Italy beat Wales with a last play conversion. I didnt see that coming and didnt even
watch the match. I heard the news while watching Ireland v Scotland. Thats Italy's first
win in the Six Nations in 7 years.



In the second game Ireland did their bit to winning the championship by securing a
bonus point win against Scotland its over to France v England to see what pans out
there and if either France or Ireland win.

I missed the first 20 minutes of the Titans Vs Raiders game last night.  The Titans played a tight game, as did the Raiders... to an extent.  It just seemed the Titans played a much better game and their team have been doing many hours of training.

The Knights, Panthers, Broncos and Storm are the only four teams to have won their first two matches with the Cowboys and Dragons filling the top six spots.  The Eels and Roosters take seventh and eight spots with the Titans and Sharks in ninth and tenth spots.

My tip: This is a genuine toss of the coin. I wouldn't be surprised to see it go either way,
but I am leaning towards the Dragons in their first home game. The Sharks were up for their
first game at Pointsbet Stadium since 2019 last round and I expect a slight letdown
game from them following that. The Dragons on the other hand will be keen for redemption
after coming oh so close against the Panthers last week. Dragons by 4.

I really thought the Dragons would roast the Sharks, but in the end, the Sharks beat the Dragons three to one on points tonight.



That win has put the Sharks into third place on the ladder (temporarily) and the Dragons drop to twelfth place.
