it's hard to predict whether Feyenoord will win against AZ when the match will take place at home to AZ. although Feyenoord is a strong team, compared to AZ, they have lost 1 time while AZ is still unbeaten. I predict AZ will win with a score of 2-0 in today's match.

Interesting round with some big results. Ajax after another poor performance in Champions League were really angry today. They destroyed Excelsior 7:1 and returns on the top of table. PSV win against Utrecht were easy too - 6:1. Thing started well for AZ as they scored first goal, but Feyenoord responded them with 3 goals and won game. AZ dropped 1st to 4th place after this game, but everything is so close between Top 4 now.

AZ - Feyenoord was a pretty interesting match. The first half was balanced and the score was 1-1 also. But AZ started to perform really badly in the second half. They had like only one shot in the whole half and Feyenoord started to take control of the match. It was a well-deserved win by 3-1 for Feyenoord for certain. The last time Feyenoord defeated them here was in 2017 so this was an important victory for them mentally also.

Ajax were like they revenged the Napoli loss against Excelsior by a huge 7-1 win. There isn't much to surprise about of course. It is the same about PSV also. There is only a two-point gap between the leader Ajax and the fourth team which are AZ now. It is lovely to follow such rivalry for the title for now but I'm confident that there will be only Ajax and PSV left in this at a point.

AZ had become a kind of title favorite for many people in the Netherlands due to the performance and the game shown in recent months. Also in Europe of course. Feyenoord was better and had a good win. But football is so opportunistic, if you play a few matches well you are favorite for the title and if you lose twice then you can't do anything anymore. But the fact that the title race is still completely open is only nice for the football spectators. Ajax lashed out hard and I think there was also a lot of frustration in all those goals.

You have to check timing and other elements before replying any post because this post was created before start of the match and then surely there was no clue what is going to happen in this match most of the peoples were feeling as league leaders AZ Alkmaar is surely going to dominate this match as they were undefeated team and doing amazing job but Feyenoord done good job and completely outclass them at home which is surely a big success.

Now with this result Ajax is new leaders and PSV is at second spot Feyenoord at third and after first defeat now AZ Alkmaar now dropped to fourth which is surely not good, but they have ability and quality to fight back hopefully we will have good changes in league table in coming weeks.

Twente crushed Groningen, it was an easy win for Twente

PSV Eindhoven 6 - 1 FC Utrecht

in this game also PSV Eindhoven crushed their opponent, honestly Utrecht conceded 6 goals and didn't even have any chance to win or draw in that game

Ajax 7 - 1 Excelsior

Ajax also crushed his opponent by scoring 7 goals, it looks like there were no Excelsior players on the field

That makes sense, because Feyenoord is actually much stronger than AZ Alkmaar in terms of team strength. Just like Liverpool, they have just been unlucky this season. You can see the performance of the brand last season, they were even able to finish in 3rd place in the standings.

Haven't followed the season much in Eredivisie after giving up on Feyenoord in Europe, but definitely agree that the Alkmaar weirdness does provide for a better season than usual. The weekend was a bit strange though, Freiburg (who have been awesome in Bundesliga) have just been reminded of where they should be same as Alkmaar... I guess as the season wears on we'll see the dust settle and the rightful positions restored.

Yeah, I've "traditionally" supported Feyenoord, but only because of close ties (spiritual more than anything else perhaps) to Liverpool, not to mention I loved every bit of the season when Dirk Kuyt lifted the trophy with them with YNWA loud and clear.

But equally enjoy seeing PSV and Alkmaar rough up the slick boys from Amsterdam a bit this season (sorry we had to beat them).

I believe that the problem was not lack of concentration, the opponent was more effective in scoring goals, just see that the opponent scored 3 goals, this overwhelming number of goals shows that Feyenoord was more superior on the field and AZ will need to work hard from now on because the other teams that are below them don't have a big difference in points, if they lose two games it will be enough for other teams to approach them

So, I think if AZ and Feyenoord are capable to compete with Ajax and PSV, the competition would be balanced until the last session.

looking realistically I doubt they will be able to keep up with Ajax and PSV, both Ajax and PSV are very strong teams and they score a lot of goals, it is not easy for other teams to compete with Ajax and PSV unless the other teams are bought by some rich and hire good coaches and good players, only then the other teams would be strong and the league would be more competitive

After all, AZ lost to Feyenoord, not some bottom table team. It's painful loss, but not tragedy, they dropped to 4th place, but still just 2 points behind Ajax.
Ajax isn't looking good Champions league, probably they will drop to Europa League, where they can go far. Other 3 clubs also have good chances to go far in Europa and Champions league. In such case, then it's question on squad depth and injuries which can be decisive in title race. Also, big factor will be in what condition players will return after World Cup break. I think it's very likely that it will be big drop of players shape after World Cup.

Yesterday and today there were cup matches in the Dutch league. Few to no surprises seen, except for 1 game. Vitesse lost on penalties to De Treffers, an amateur team. That's the fun of such tournaments. But in the competition Vitesse is also doing very poorly and is even almost at the bottom. We might see a long battle for the championship at the top, which is of course great for the neutral football supporter. Ajax really has an enormous wealth on the field and has spent 110 million euros, but that is not yet reflected on the field. Antony is sorely missed, but they got 100 million for that. The last round showed how crazy the league is. They hunt each other with these absurd results week after week, but at least they are showing some weaknesses from time to time and make it a close race at the top.

It will still mostly be about the showdowns like we have seen between AZ and Feyenoord. It does happen that they give away points agains the weaker teams, but the games between the top four are tremendously important whereas in a number of other leagues it is quite a bit more balanced in that teams from the top more frequently lose points against teams from the ranks five and onwards.
