Why did they use TalkImg (and also BitList)? Does someone who is part of this organization know and use Bitcointalk? Or did they simply find these image hosting services and want to take advantage of them? These are questions I no longer know the answers to.

They probably used, or tried using, other image hosting providers as well, but we could speculate they used our two community services especially because they got paid in crypto, so they knew about them.

If you are using the Firefox as browser then I would suggest changing the browser, I found a similar problem to yours where Mac users would get an error when pasting an image from the clipboard to the imgur host and uploading it, but it is not clears for me f they were able to upload the Image if that was saved locally.

For now, as a solution, I would suggest using another browser. Maybe joker_josue can find a solution for this later.

So I uploaded an image, everything went smooth, and when I click preview (in both PM, and Posts), I'm getting the Bitcointalk image proxy error. Note that I have not made any recent changes, everything is the same as usual, same browser, same extensions/userscripts and so on. Furthermore, I tried to view the image without the BBtag, using the URL and it would say, page doesn't exist.

What's happening?

Without examples, it's difficult to assess.
But, if the error was with the proxy, perhaps it was some kind of momentary glitch that may have occurred.
