Congratulations on the growth of this project.  Impressive.

Is there any public information, in this thread or elsewhere, about the proper way to restrict image embeds to requests from ip.bitcointalk.org?  A naïve guess would be just to look up its ip4/ip6, whitelist that, and keep it updated per DNS TTL—but if the proxy’s user-facing part is behind Cloudflare, or if it simply uses different IPs for in/out, then that obviously won’t work.

About five or six years ago, I had an idea to auto-generate some specialized kinds of images—exclusively for use on this forum.  Now, it is inspiring to see TalkImg’s spirit of building something that was long needed, instead of only wishing for it—or thinking, “Eh, I’ll do this someday”.  Maybe, just maybe, I should take that as an example.  If so, I’ll give 403 to anyone except the forum’s image proxy.

This is a really good project.  Long needed.  Had it existed years ago, perhaps the image links in my old posts would not be broken.

Since you've been away for a while, you may be interested in [get yours] Images from imgur + All links to your own posts? Or more directly: this list (no JavaScript required).

Thank you for the update and on good news regarding server and hosting.

Hopefully we will use this service for many years to come. I can not imagine how many broken image links would we have on forum if some complications with TalkImg would occure. Some of older posts that used imgur are almost impossible to understand without pictures giving context, it tells a lot about importance of this service...

Quick question, are you still accepting the lightning address for donations? So while updating, I noticed you removed lightning address from OP.

It is possible to configure the server/Cloudflare so that hotlinks only work on Bitcointalk.

Yes, I allowed it to be accepted that way. It had low uptake, and fortunately we live in times of low interest rates. If necessary in the future, I can reconsider.

Ah.  If I read you right:  I look for a way to restrict this fully on the server side; browsers can be configured not to send the (misspelt in standards) referer header, and I’m not sure off the top of my head if CORS can be configured to restrict image embeds... and anyway, whitelisting an IP address would be both simpler and more reliable.  Thanks anyway.

i really don't know why none of the AOBT translators noticed this, but in his op for the october update, joker_jouse forgot to update the number of images and the disk space in the statistics section
i was already wondering why the numbers were the same until i noticed this...

I noticed it yesterday, the link to the monthly statistics and the Donations & Ad section were updated, but not yet the statistical data (Last update: 10/10/2026), we will have to review it in a few days to update it in our respective local ANNs.

BTW, the Spanish translation has already been updated with the changes so far, and also the post with October's statistics can be found here.

I did noticed, when I tried to replace those numbers, but later thought who am I to question OP. So I didn't, and just added the new stat post.

Today, the server received an update to fix the critical vulnerability in the Linux kernel, CVE-2026-98432.
The server had to be restarted, which may have caused a temporary service outage.

Since it was a quick process, I believe it didn't cause any major inconveniences.
