Absolutely right.  Quite often, no words of persuasion or malicious scolding and reproaches towards a child will make him correct his behavior.  Or even that he would change his habits and aspirations.  I agree that the personal example of parents gives much more in raising children than some kind of verbal lessons and instructions.  Especially when there are serious differences in what adult parents do and what they say to instruct their child.  This, of course, fully applies to participation in gambling and the lottery, too, as in a relatively harmless version of gambling.
