Also the scratch part is for scratch card which is mini games on lottery outlet. I didn’t see one that you are describing that is being use on national lottery here in my country. We are using standard lottery adapted to the US so I’m pretty sure that we have the standard lottery. What country do you live? And can you provide reference? You can check some information about it if you want on the internet, search for "Kino Táchira" or "Triple Gordo" those used to be the biggest lotteries here in my country, I am not sure whether there are still are, though.
The modality for them to sell their numbers was through providing the pre-printed cartons to lottery agencies or stores, people just needed to pick one and pay for it. Alledgely, (the day before the drawing of the numbers, the cartons used to get collected by the lottery company and they also had a very complex registration mechanism, you during the final drawing of the winning numbers, they could tell whether there was a winner who had the carton with all the numbers which matched those drawn.
I assume it has worked that way here in my country, because technologically it was easier for agencies to sell printed cartons than having machines which printed the lottery ticket.

Let's assume both of you were equally right in your opinions, but let not forget that lottery offers come in different forms from different bodies, there are some that are government initiatives while other aspects belongs to the NGOs and the last categories are the ones coming from the gambling sections, so i believe each category we may fall to would have their own policies and standard procedures for making an application and the general conditions they have in common is the luck aspect in its application or chances of being accepted, irrespective of their selection criteria.

There's no much difference if we do speak about those lotteries which been ran by the government but there would be noticeable difference if we do speak about online lotteries but in overall concept on how the game been done or in terms or speaking about mechanics then we do know that its something not much that different. There might be some difference in terms of other aspects but really that much. When playing lottery then expect that odds would really be that close to possible and this is why its never been that recommendable that you should be spending tons of money
in buying tickets since we know the odds are really that less or something not really that worth if you do heavily being that too optimistic about it.

Very interesting point of view that hadn't crossed my mind. When I said in the past that addiction in lotteries are rare because the time between the purchase of the ticket and the draw was long in comparison with other bets, I wasn't thinking that the dream of winning the lottery comes from a very young age.

I don't agree with this because what I know is that lottery betting really depends purely on luck and buying more tickets does not mean increasing the chance of getting the jackpot but the opportunity to make themselves lose all their money just to chase winnings from the lottery.

Totally too far off if we do speak about odds specially on winning up lottery comparing into some gambling game like casinos or sports betting but we know that ticket prizes are way more cheaper and results arent really that

Compared to gambling, the lottery. It is very hard to win the lottery, you're right. The chances are very, very bad against you. The numbers don't lie; I've seen them. Completely agree with you and disagree with Bushdark as well, lottery, like you have said is completely a luck based game, more tickets does not guarantee winning even though casinos or those who host the lottery will always advice that the more tickets you hold, the better your chances of winning, this is just something they do in other to have gamblers or participants of the lottery buying even more and more tickets, which will in turn mean more and more profit for them, since them as well are into it for some money as well.

Concerning the discussion of "the more tickets one buys, the better the chances of that person winning" we can draw an example from Freebitco's lottery system, where we see that people with such a few hundred tickets end up winning the jackpot, while those with millions of tickets end up winning just a tiny amount of bitcoin, and sometimes, nothing at all.

I think that it is interesting to remember, if you didn't read it, what was discussed before in this same thread, not about Megamillions in particular but about Euromillions, which is also a multi-state lottery. The probability to win that lottery is in the OP so it is unnecessary to repeat it, but it is not very different from the one you mention.

Both gambling games and lotteries require luck, and it's not like one who wins in a gambling game because of luck can't win in a lottery because it's the same thing, you can't get lucky in a different way to win a lottery, if your luck can work in gambling, it can work in lotteries as well. The only difference is in the odds and probabilities, when you are gambling, you tend to have a higher probability of winning a bet but the reward is less because of the odds.

The odds of winning in a lottery are extremely low, which is the reason why it's so difficult to win the main prize. You can't. In fact, in most lottery games you don't even choose the numbers.
You just by a ticket with some random numbers on it (usually the numbers are hidden and you need to scratch the ticket to see those number) then wait for the result to be announced to see if you were lucky and bought the winning ticket. I suppose this is done to avoid collisions so there will be only one winner if any.

I’m pretty sure that a standard lottery let you choose number. The only lottery type game that let you have a random winner is the keno type lottery but that is not the standard lottery that often contains the huge jackpot.

Also the scratch part is for scratch card which is mini games on lottery outlet. I didn’t see one that you are describing that is being use on national lottery here in my country. We are using standard lottery adapted to the US so I’m pretty sure that we have the standard lottery. What country do you live? And can you provide reference? Let's assume both of you were equally right in your opinions, but let not forget that lottery offers come in different forms from different bodies, there are some that are government initiatives while other aspects belongs to the NGOs and the last categories are the ones coming from the gambling sections, so i believe each category we may fall to would have their own policies and standard procedures for making an application and the general conditions they have in common is the luck aspect in its application or chances of being accepted, irrespective of their selection criteria.

There's no much difference if we do speak about those lotteries which been ran by the government but there would be noticeable difference if we do speak about online lotteries but in overall concept on how the game been done or in terms or speaking about mechanics then we do know that its something not much that different.
