Well done Monero! It looks like this technology is attracting more and more capital!
From today I switch my radar to Monero!

No surprise that when any coin goes up like that when others don't then it gets noticed now if the speculators actually learn what makes this the best Currency in the world then the price will skyrocket and development speed will increase with the new influx.

Hello. Just had a strange issue with the monero gui wallet. Tried to send the transaction, but wallet crashed when making it. When i tried again after restarting i had error message that there was a double spend and I was not able to send the coins again, but balance was still there. now I have tried rescan spent and the coins are gone. Was that to propagate the transaction again and the coins will be sent now again right? Just to be sure. Its quite a chunk of money and made me quite uneasy.

Really looking forward to time when there is smoothly working Monero wallet.

Thanks for help

The GUI wallet crashing like that seems like a serious problem that definitely must be fixed. Could you please provide more details (e.g. which operating system, the version of the GUI wallet, etc)? Also, can you reproduce the crash? It would be perfect if you could open an issue on the GitHub repo (https://github.com/monero-project/monero-core/issues) with detailed information (and maybe a screenshot or two).

Quite true, if people do not open a Git issue then the devs won't know about the problem as there is not alot of dev activity in this thread anymore. Also you can get direct and usually instant help in the #Monero-Dev channel on freenode.net IRC channel

Why prices rise today?

Why not?
If there's some truth on the fact that people are getting hyped with bitthumb, then it should keep rising a little bit until it "opens" to the market August 27.

Monero price reached a new record on Monday, rising to $95 following news that Bithumb, the world’s most-used cryptocurrency exchange, would soon add Monero trading pairs to its platform.

Why prices rise today?

This is a great time to buy if you afford it, this market is being intentionally suppressed and we all know what happens when that stops. Wink

5) You are a shop owner, and have registered a Monero address with the IRS as your official retailer address. You use this address for receiving payments from all of your customers. At the end of the year, the tax man uses the view key you provided them with to check how much you received, so that you pay the appropriate taxes....

Good stuff, but seriously, the IRS using your viewkey? The IRS forms are ancient, they have nothing for that sort of thing, so how will that ever work in this day and age? I understand it and agree, but I don't see the IRS actually giving any shits about that kind of thing. It's hard enough to claim BTC on tax forms, let alone any other crypto!  Roll Eyes

Monero is doing pretty well. Great to see ongoing developement.

Monero is so undervalued it's crazy. I'd still buy more if I could. Tongue

I suppose it's likely the IRS will barely have Bitcoin on their radar, never mind Monero, but I was simply pointing out to chilly2k the fact that if the day comes when people are using Monero, they can prove their income and pay relevant taxes with the use of a viewkey. The IRS will need to figure out crypto soon enough.

Guys don't kid yourself, btc is already on their radar.  They have people dedicated to it  Cool

Do you know of any privacy coins which implemented POS and eventually failed? I think POS would be a nice addition for the coin

Staking compromises privacy. With advance tracking systems being built, keeping hold of a sum of coins for longer would make easier to track/relate the user and the pattern of use.
That's the reason why we see coin mixing services.

I don't understand how PoS is supposed to work if you can't even see how many coins are in the wallet. (Ignoring all other issues with PoS for the time being.)

If you can see how many coins are in the wallet, that obviously compromises privacy, at least to some degree.

Well thats easy the staking wallet would have a public view key, but I was being Facetious. I'm not a POS supporter, actually I left NobleCoin when it went POS and all the little scammers showed up to P&D it.

That doesn't literally work because View Keys don't by themselves show what has already been spent (in which case it wouldn't count for staking). This could be fixed by also disclosing key images though.

But also, widespread public disclosure of view keys (for example for staking) and key images would still compromise privacy. I regularly raise this in development discussions, as a goal to work toward other convenient ways of doing things that do not involve disclosing view keys and reducing incentives to share view keys. If too much of it happens for whatever reason, that's bad for overall privacy. To some extent that goal is not entirely achievable, but paying people to do it would be the last thing we would want.

So yup it could be done and it would suck (technically speaking). Smiley
