sweet!

I really hope you have it downvolted! my 7990 runs at 1 volt, compared to 1,2 stock. Watching your temps, I can almost asume u have it downvolted.. Wink
Yeah of course, I have them with edited bios at 1050, had them on linux for years until two died then retired this rig until a buddy of mine had a go at resoldering the chips took him a week but managed to bring them back to life.

Why are your guys mining on Windows? It's a bloated shit.

Get some basic Linux OS, possible a command line OS and dont run any other apps while mining. Why waste computer resources on useless background shit.

Only have the miner running.

Yeah I know what you're saying, however I failed to find appropriate drivers on ubuntu that worked for these old cards as amd stopped support for them. Wasn't too happy with windows 10 but at least it works.

I don't understand. Isn't there like a command line based miner like for console based linux only, or DOS even.

The drivers can be installed from the manufacturer's website even to linux. In most Linux distros they come shipped with the kernel.

Yeah in an ideal world, in the real world you download the official drivers from the manufacturer's website, you select linux, you ./run-their-binary reboot and end up with hosed installation. And the OEM is like;

Yeah I am not a fan of Windows either and how they have a monopoly over everything.

However it's not like that, the drivers can be installed on Linux even manually, there are plenty of tutorials out there how to.

On the otherh and I have bought a brand new laptop for my wife last month and I put a Linux Mint on it, and it worked like magic. It had a state of the art video card in it, and the Linux distro had all drivers for it by default.

So most linux distros come with dirvers on it.

If you want to be efficient though, you might want to use a basic OS for it that is command line only and install the drivers manually on it. It will be hard work, but it will be more efficient mining.

You can't manually install drivers that do not exist https://betanews.com/2015/11/24/amd-kills-gpu/ Crimson drivers hosed ubuntu, old drivers won't install on new kernel, solution would be to run old ubuntu with beta catalyst like I did 4 years ago, but then I'll have trouble compiling miners to satisfy newer dependencies, so may as well just use windows and eat the bloatware Cheesy

I think people have to go low level if they want efficient mining.

Some guys have already made an entire operating system as a Linux Distro just for BTC mining.

I can see the same happening in the future for Monero once it becomes more popular.

If you really want to mint efficiently you have to remove all background apps that waste power and PC resources, and only use the software that is mining.

I have read somewhere that even the communication between the CPU and the miner can be speeded up if some background apps are removed even if not at full capacity, any tiny app can slow it down, and we dont want that do we?

Ok so your problem is that you have malware on your computer. It's one of the nastiest pieces of malware currently known to man. Researchers are calling it "windows 10". To get rid of it you can start by going to linux.org...

Na I'm just messing. Sorry idk I've never used the windows client.

A few questions:

1. Is there a space in the path to the GUI? E.g., is it located in C:\Program Files\Monero?

2. Is this the first time you try to run the GUI?

3. Which version are you running?

4. Could you paste the content of bitmonero.log to https://paste.fedoraproject.org? You can find the file in C:\ProgramData\bitmonero. Note that this folder, by default, is hidden. Therefore, you have to manually enter aforementioned path into the explorer.

5. Are you using a public network (e.g. university)?

6. What happens if you open monerod.exe manually? Does it start to sync?

Hahaha that is funny but it is true, it is a malware. You know how basically Win10 logs all keystrokes and sends them out on the internet.

I can't believe how any serious person would work with money on such a computer, especially with private keys that are basically made public this way.
