I say let the dev keep his premine! Let it be used for development and bounties. But also, the dev needs some reward himself for his brilliance, and motivation to keep progressing the coin!  2% premine looks bad from new coins with unknown devs because of fear of dump and run. But this dev has already gone public and is more than qualified. This coin is quite unique in every sense of the word.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I didn't call anybody a scam before on fora, but if XC is pulling a DRK I will!!!

At the start of the PoW phase price was based on +-17M PoW coins. After 6M coins mined suddenly there is a "surprising" fpga threat which was unforeseen so the dev will end PoW asap.
At 1/3 of planned PoW coins mined the price suddenly rockets of course.

IF this was orchestrated beforehand then it is a huge scandal as the people in on this skeem are profiting enormously.

You do understand that having hundreds of gigahash take half the money distribution would kill a PoS coin and render it DOA, don't you?

I don't want to accuse because this is impossible to proof or disproof but imo this decision smells fishy.

The hashrate is there, no matter the origin, so from that perspective there is proof. It could be NSA trying to control the coin using the POS vector. Who knows?
great points!! nothing would surprise me with the NSA sneaky bastards

some things make ya go hmmm...... and I wouldn't put it past any 3 letter group..lol

This made me laugh. Could be the NSA I suppose but I think that this statement would go better on the Conspiracy coin thread.

You are correct though the hash is there. Not sure it is FPGA or where it is coming from, doesn't really matter as it all has the same effect.

no don't stop POW...
POS is over-rated...

keep it hybrid pow+pos
just reduce the reward when difficulty rises... (a formula like darkcoin)

yes, if it is still POW then everyone should mine like dark and may be it will also rise like dark.

If you are worried about fpga's why don't you implement another algo, they are around!

Thanks for listening to my complaints, I bought some XC myself and hope everything works out for the best but I wish people were less gullible and be more critical!
Good trading and investing to all!

It's the way to go, mate. A ton of coins did this already and will do it in the future. It's a fast paced game and nobody has the 4 years which BTC could afford to develop on his own speed.

if i recall, did DRK modified in the same way? all they are going through some economical study by some Nobel laureate?

FLT did that as well and over-exploded also. Still a great coin and will do even better in the future.

If there is to be a major reduction in PoW blocks though, the premine issue needs to be addressed eventually. If we are looking at just over 6 million PoW coins, the once small premine has now ballooned into over a 2% premine.  You may have a lot of your plate right now, but best to fight off the FUD before it hits.

+1

If the premine is destroyed to equal proportion to the coin reduction, criticism regarding "unfair dev" will be crushed. Unless of course part of the premine is already sold.

Well in DRK some say the nodes are being bought by the NSA, so, in that sense it's "the only crypto the government wants to buy from you" Grin

If they see a legitimate threat they may want to move ahead of the game. Personally I believe they own secretely purchased ASICs that do ensure 51% POW supremacy in all crypto's right now including SHA256, Scrypt and X11.

Miners mine to dump to get money back... they aren't "investors" that hold for the long term.  POS is the way to go.

It's no asic. Every GPU on the planet can mine x-11. It's double the hash or more than scrypt on those gpu cards. When a coin rises in price others see it and think "i gotta mine that" now a lot of miners know that x-11 runs cooler and is a higher hash rate. Sync saw insane hash too. This is just more GPU's miner the same coin. X11 is just getting to be known by more miners so they pointed their hash at it. You can also rent farms woth of hash from places like nicehash and betarigs. Scypt asics are out but not for x-11 in mass or for scrypt-n I'm sure once they do they will be killer though.

The premine before was way too small at only 0.4%. That is just too small for development costs and proper pay to this dev for his work. He needs a larger compensation if he wants to take this coin to the next level.  I think we all can agree on that. It costs money to make a coin and hire out work.  Trust me, I know this, as the dev of cinnicoin.  So, my vote is overwhelmingly to let him keep what he already has no matter the total supply reduction.

Updated windows wallet is compiling, github has been updated and I've contact the 3 exchanges to update their wallets

Any plans to change the name and the branding perhaps? I don't see X11 being a very strong brand going forward.
someone suggested XCHAIN and XC is perfect so...

A new name would be great. You have to image xc some days on TV or newspaper. X11coin isn't  a great name for that. But Dark or Black or Pot coin is worse too.
And I think, the name should be media-friendly and not suggerate any bad, or dark, or stealth. Something, a name, you can use in business and not mafia^^
To enter the next level, we need a better logo and a better website. (this is not meant unkindly to the actual web designers work)

Thanks for answering my comments straight away. It is good to see that a dev is active on a forum, it is a rarity nowadays.
As far as fpga's / asics are concerned, couldn't you implement another algo that is for now specialistic hardware proof?
On the website and the ann the info is partially false or outdated, it doesn't take too long to round up recent changes/plans and put them frontpage, now people just have to gather gossip and hearsay from irc, trollbox and BTCtalk.

Expensive hardware securing the blockchain also has it's upside as it helps keep the price stable. Ofcourse it is also against the principle of decentralisation, I'm just saying...

Good luck in making this coin awesome, will be watching : )

have you seen the hashrate?  there are numerous reasons why the change is being made and the fact that there is a large unknown source of hash power taking all the coins from the everyday miners is part of that and that was a key part of my vision in the beginning as I was unaware of the fpga x11 code, I wanted a fair "gpu/cpu" coin that didn't require high-end asic's...

I have been mining since 2010 and the entire ASIC movement left a bad taste in my mouth, with what Avalon did ( check my history, I purchased 30BTC worth of CHIPS which were never shipped except for batch #3 which I received way to late)

I wanted to even the game for the every day miner and now the the tables are turned and thats NOT fair

could be botnet herds but i suspect x11 asic or fpgas are here.
If you want anti asic there is only qrk or scryptN left for now.
