Entourée de ventilateurs, la machine est en fait un “mineur” – un fabricant – de Bitcoin, la monnaie cryptographique qui inquiète les banques.
Désintermédiation des banques
“Nous nous y intéressons et nous explorons la technologie Bitcoin car cela désintermédie les banques puisque les transactions se font directement entre les particuliers, sans intermédiaire bancaire,” présente une démonstratrice de Oney.
Elle a pris la parole à l’occasion d’une visite organisée dans ses locaux pour la presse et des clients potentiels, le 20 octobre. Le minage est le procédé qui sert à mettre des Bitcoins en circulation.
C’est un procédé qui consomme beaucoup de puissance de calcul, et les machines du réseau sont mises en concurrence pour effectuer ces calculs. Comme l’indique le site bitcoin.fr, les “mineurs” effectuent des calculs mathématiques pour le réseau Bitcoin afin de confirmer et sécuriser les transactions.
Récompense des mineurs
Comme récompense de leurs services, ils collectent les bitcoins nouvellement créés et les frais des transactions qu’ils confirment. Les mineurs sont en concurrence – il y a 175 000 unités dans le monde – et leurs revenus sont proportionnels à la puissance de calcul déployée.
Le site bitcoin.fr avertit les particuliers tentés par le minage que l’opération n’est plus rentable, et que seuls certains sites industriels parviennent encore à tirer profit de cette activité.
Chez Auchan, l’idée était juste de voir, “toutes les banques regardent le Bitcoin, mais nous n’avons ni projet, ni prototype prévus dans ce domaine,” termine la démonstratrice. Pour l’heure, l’usage du Bitcoin chez Oney se résume aux achats à la cafétéria, dans le cadre d’un développement réalisé avec une startup.
