Hi,

I've installed the client recently (v1.4.17) and synching is extremely slow, although I can see 16 connections to the network. At this rate, synch will take several months.
Is there a way to speed up things a bit?

Stake and dig (one address at a time) at Just-dice.com

Dig (all addresses with one click dropping the .dat) at https://freebitcoins.com/clamchecker/dig_wallet/ (you get 3.5 CLAMS worth of BTC @ market price)

Or you could read thread for Doogs bootstrap! (but the syncing will be slow still and the altcoin markets can move drastically)

https://AltQuick.com/exchange/ - Trade altcoins & Bitcoin Testnet coins with real Bitcoin. Fast, private, and easy!
https://AltQuick.com/Faucet/ Load your AltQuick exchange account with free Bitcoins & Testnet every 10 minutes.

Anyone having any issues with getting transactions through? I sent one earlier today took about ~10-15 mins for first transaction. Now I've been sitting at 40 minutes still not one confirmation and the transaction ID doesn't show up in the block explorer?

You can do an easy test at freebitcoins.com and get a small payment from the faucet. If that shows up in your wallet, the network is working fine.

Where are you sending from?  If it's not in the block explorer, there is a good chance it hasn't been broadcast to the network.  In which case something is going on at the sender.

I sent it from the qt like I did earlier today. But just this one isn't confirming, I've tried restarting it and nothing is working. Worried about losing the coins now.

   Is your wallet sync'ed, and is it at the same block height as the block explorer?  Maybe your on your own fork.  I wouldn't worry about losing the coins, if they're not on the main block chain then there still yours.
I'm not sure if a re-index or rescan would help.  Kind of sounds like you'll need to do something like that, but it's over my head now.  You can also check the debug file, and see if you in some kind of a loop.  You may just need to restart the wallet, if you haven't tried that yet.

chilly2k is basically spot on with his advice.
Ensure you have connections to some peers, so that the transaction has a means to get out to the network.
If the CLAM shows as still attributed to your pubkey/address, then there should be nothing to be concerned about.
Worst case, you have to rescan and/or resync and send again (assuming the above).

So basically it is possible to create a private fork and lose sync with the network by staking while you are still syncing. Can you go a (few) block(s) back and resync or do you have to reload the entire blockchain?
Shouldn't there be a safety buildin that if the block you created isn't accepted by the network that it is discarded and you keep syncing with blocks that have been accepted? That way you cannot create your own fork.

Simply prevent your mature blocks from staking while the wallet syncs.

Go to console and type

reservebalance true and a number bigger than the number of CLAM you have

i.e.
reservebalance true 99999

Console response

{
"reserve" : true,
"amount" : 99999.00000000
}

Now the wallet will not stake mature blocks until

reservebalance false

is entered, or the wallet is restarted.

Does anyone have the last 3 weeks for the blockchain?

I completely reinstalled CLAM to try to get my transaction to go through but the last posted blockchain was only until September 9th. It's not taking about 5+ hours per day to catch up even though I have 16 connections. I did all of LTC blockchain in 4 hours. This one is taking literal days.

Clamcoin is one of the every few coins with graphs like this one. MORE buyers than sellers and yet they are selling it at 0.0020!! why?

Why are people selling so cheaply when it is very obvious that there is a huge demand and very few sellers.

Why not hit 0.0035 and higher, i dont get it.

A lot of the CLAMMunity has to sell coins to survive in real life.

I know a number of people that sell the coins they stake and save the "CLAM mining rig" as their investment.

I see Clamcoins like little digital mining rigs that can be broken down into very very very small units.

CLAM investors are either: Very rich and don't mind OR People hustling hard to finally have a "stable" income in their life.  Not much in between Tongue!

Clamcoin one of the best altcoin!  Smiley

You are right tonbit1239, many of us feel that way.

I do not fully agree with this analisys. I don't need CLAM (or any altcoin) to survive and I am certaninly not rich. I have a small amount, which I love, and would like to get more. I hope to achieve this by selling Clam high and buying more back low. To do this the price needs to fluctuate and shouldn't get too high.
If there are many investors like myself the price will not go up quickly because we try to sell at every peak and hope the price will drop again. This may be one of the reasons the price is so stable.

Personally I don't care much if Clam is worth $10 or $100 at this time, I just want as much clam as I can get my (virtual) hands on. When I have reached my goal, the price may soar but until then I'd rather it stays low.

Buy low, get high and seek the end of the rainbow

I think the main reason for less CLAM on the sell side of the order book is that unlike most coins there are strong incentives to keep your CLAMs in the JD bankroll or stake them yourself.
