i think the price of NEM is independent to NXT value, i would suspect its pegged in dollar terms as this is an independent project,

well not really, nxt has fallen a good bit but nem stakes havnt corrected what so ever in terms of usd value. nem has fallen fairly equally in terms of usd as nxt has. nem would have to rise by 10% if nxt falls by 10% to be pegged to usd instead of nxt so it is very pegged to nxt. however i dont think it represents the value that nem really has because of this. i think we will see a sharp rise in value come launch once it detaches from nxt and money can flow in freely from bitcoin or other avenues and smaller buyers are allowed in.

it doesnt bother me to see the usd value fall, because even though nxt is falling, people are not really selling enough to push the nem stake price down. which shows confidence and that people are holding regardless of what nxt does. or at worst there are buyers buying up the stakes of those dumping due to the decline of nxt.
fair enough

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

It's traded in NxT not $Fiat.

yes, would just mean the its value terms, NEM/ NEM would adjust accordingly

really sad to hear what happened to the NXT holder
anyway the devs could implement 2fa into the nem wallet

Everyone should learn from this story and protect their crypto holding accordingly.

NxT's price is collapsing because one of the original NxT whales (40 million) downloaded a keylog file and presumably close to 7 million has been dumped by a hacker so far and another 33 million will be dumped.   He had passwords to wallets worth several $million on a text file on his desktop.

https://nxtforum.org/general-discussion/price-speculation/5440/

This does relate to NEM as it is entirely traded on the AE and NxT's price changes has a huge effect.  A $500 NEMstake is possible if NxT continues to drop in price.

That is terrible news about the NXT hack. I have chatted with that guy before about NXT and he was really nice and cool. He was regularly giving donations to different projects. He lost about 1,000,000 USD :-(

sicko. I know how losing 1million$ feel like. Good luck to him.

Someone has already gathered 26 stakes. Maybe someone wants to create an infochart to compare distribution with Nxt and other cryptos but I guess soon it won't be much better than Nxt. The rich guys always protect their position by buying all promising coins. And unfortunately many Nemster cashed out to have quick cash... but we'll see how distribution is evolving.

Although i agree, in the end the NEM distribution is still plenty adequate in my eyes - sockpuppets or not. I don't think anything released thus far is comparable.
...
mayby Bitshares is coming 6 months of IPO BTC + Mining shares PTS
then
BC style "Mine IPO" - over 14 000 addresses created in 1st 7 days - free market rule. Mining by running rentals was about 1500 sat per BC.
Price today jumped about 15x jump. Multi pull pumped today about 1M $ into BC.

it is good analyze price jumps to stability:
BC mine cost 1500 sat price per 1 BC so 15x rise today
NXT 1b/2BTC 20at  -1 NXT  so 350x rise today and market realy behaves like it was 100m coin market not 1b coin market.
Bitshares will be backed up with 7000 BTC (add pts to calculation) - x? we will see real backed market cap 16m $ - this coin will have HARD TIME TO RISE...
NEM 4b/ (sum of all BTC ) - ? hmm for me its like 20x initial but for 1st 0,01BTC it will be 200x
XC  - ~11000sat mine cost probably 20x value jump
VRC - ~1500 sat minig so 20x jump

On POS market will be fight between those coins on market share.
Nem will get into NXT,NFD2,Node,NAS sphere mostly While PPC BC XC VRC VRC will bash each other Cheesy...
bitshare is othe diffrent concept but it will be easier lose with it.

Lets see in future Volumes of NEM Bitshares and discuss distribution.

Ok so if I purchase 0.1 stake on the NXT AE... is that just, in theory, an escrow service and does not guarantee the receipt of my stake right?

if you buy .1 then it's backed by the nem team and will. Redeemed for real men come launch so it's safe to buy due to them being backed by the nem team. It's not the team selling though it's stake holders that have claimed their stakes that you are buying from

Or alternatively if you are male, and prefer females, you can also redeem it for real NEM.

Hmm , haven't you said that you have a wife somewhere in another thread?! Wink
You can still give 1 NEM stake for the date but I will date her

The legal game of ping pong we will play as we push for acceptance and market share. These decisions will wildly influence who uses things like NEM and how.

NEM is back to normal pricing range - I see sells around 26K-27K NxT

NxT losing 1.7 cents in a week is the culprit here.  The decline hasn't finish either.  Naturally that effects the $Fiat value of NEM.

Though there's a minimum threshold.  Like if NxT went down to 1 cent, NEM would probably hold steady at some certain point ($500?) Due to demand.

There ain't no Revolution like a NEMolution.  The only solution is Bitcoin's dissolution! NEM!

looks like 1 person bought up to 28k and no new buy orders. It was probably some one that saw the thin market and that people had stopped selling so he jumped in b4 anyone got there first. Wouldn't call that an incline caused by a decline of nxt.

Apparently someone hacked into a NXT founders account and stole 1170 btc and 6 million NXT. perhaps the thief is buying up NEM stakes as I think after selling 3 million NXT on bter, he might have had his account blocked

edit: oddisoft beat me 2 it. I think the 40 million NXT number is wrong though. Thats what he had originally. He tweeted the exact figures. 3.2million of his own and 2.8million belonging to the community (dev funds)

There really needs to be something done in the security front to put a stop to all these hacking attacks. I know there is keepass, 2FA etc, but something is needed for the non tech minded person if crypto is ever going to take off. Its just too easy to download a keylogger or other malware these days.

On a related note. I watched a bitcoin panal with some security experts and the winklevoss twins early last year in which, one of the security experts described how a system could be hacked and your bitcoins stolen. The Winklevoss twins looked at each other after hearing this with a look of OH shit on their faces

Does anyone recall a few dozen pages back my mention of a HYBRID key?

Part of it is stored like a wallet.dat and part of it is your passphrase, meaning if someone gets the phrase OR your wallet file, they still can't access your funds?

Sounds like an even better idea now.

4000 chars available and all I got was this stupid tagline.

Isn't that how any encrypted wallet file works already ?
