When "booting the local node" what should the node name be?

Whatever you wish, e.g. Exergy!

I actually tried this, but I get "NIS Validation Error". What exactly does booting the local node do?

I already ran the server before starting the client, so is it actually already running?

booting actually connects you to nem network, before that you are disconnected and unsynched

What do i use as a node name?

Whatever you wish - would probably be best to use your nickname.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

Dear NEMsters,

I've been just brightened Grin by interesting idea of a little more promotion of our NEM...

So... I think that many(almost all I hope!) of us have wi-fi routers in our homes, flats, offices and so on... I hope that almost all of us can change name of our Wireless Network Name(SSID)

to something like  NEM http://www.ournem.com/  (this is not so big window, to put smth more, but enjoy your imagination!)

Can Your imagine how many people have wifi support on different devices (iphone, android your know everything I hope) to see this name of your wifi HuhHuhHuhHuh?

HUGE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WILL SEE THIS! AND MANY OF THEM WILL TRY TO UNDERSTAND -WHAT'S THIS F*** Grin ALICE...Huh I hope you understand it Grin

So, this is really working to bring to our community new members!

So... Your thoughts???

Makoto brings absolutely amazing idea to make free internet available under NEM

try to restart Your NIS and after NCC

I've got the same error.

I Closed Nis and NCC, restarted windows, cause Avast was really anoying.. asking to reboot.

After reboot, I started NIS and NCC and i got the same error, as NxtVisa. My opnion is that the system booted the local node automatically, cause i send money to one acc I have and it worked, even after the error message. Harvesting also worked.

After closing again all nem soft, it worked whith no problem whithout error message.

I think it's a good idea. Wifi router names, number stickers, a tag on a business cars or website. I think we all need to do little things to help.

That's very funny.

I was so close to putting money in Gox at the end to buy on the cheap, but didn't.

I learnt a valuable lesson. The crypto virtual world really is Wild West.

I'm very happy to see NEM make an alpha and be the real deal.

all 30k btc went to tim draper. they will be used to promote btc in emerging economies. (woo hoo)

Bitcoin is maybe on the verge of another explosion. The guys don't invest unless there is a chance of massive returns.

He's probably going to try for profits from fees instead of the coins themselves, but it's still a great sign for the ecosystem.

It's this lawlessness that makes it the lucrative market it is. Remember that.

Back on subject though; I've already thrown this idea out, but i want to again because I don't think anyone paid it any mind:

Are there any plans to put into the NEM wallet, a means of setting up regular payment arrangements? Similar to some features most of us get with our own FIAT banking system (Direct debits,  Automated Clearing House, etc)

I have yet to see this feature in any wallet before, and i think it's absolutely crucial in order to make a crypto a regular, convenient form of payment. It's beyond me why developers focus on messaging in wallets when it's a service people won't pay for when alternatives outside the blockchain suffice, and are free (Email, Instant Messaging, etc). I'd say lets focus on making it a competitive currency with features that mimic, rival, and exceed the systems we have today.

@thingymajig.

thats what automated transactions(nxt) or turing complete(ethereum) is for. it will do all those things.

its far more complex than most coders can do. nxt is fairly far through development in that area and will for sure get there well before ethereum and us. im not sure ethereum can even do it. they have been changing their mind about stuff allot on how to do it(thats what i heard anyway.)

but i agree its going to be a huge turning point in crypto.

Yeah. My point is though is that many crypto's may claim to be an alternative to fiat currency, yet lack the very basic (Yet crucial) features required that make it viable in the first place. Lets say NEM did become a success - i don't want to have to manually initiate every payment to each service i may be paying for.  Really, that was my point Tongue

This is actually a good idea, as long as it can be implemented with minimal risks.. I'm not entirely sure how it would operate, but all my monthly payments are dealt with in this manner through one bank account and I have to say I'd even be inclined to pay slightly more than switch back to the old methods.
