...
Ive looked at NEM and tried understanding the product, which is pretty slick.
But I was a little concerned about the following:

a) Technology: Ethereum is the elephant in every alt room atm. Can NEM (or any other) compete with it?
b) Japan: Yes, the news outta Japan is promising for NEM, although since it is in Japan it is hard for me to gauge exactly how promising. It would be a major boon for NEM if it could get companies in Europe and the US to look at the tech.
...

re:a) - I'd say it depends on what your use case is. NEM has arguably a much, much lower entry barrier because the API is very simple and extremely well documented. If you try to get into eth it can be a little more daunting especially for more inexperienced people.
Furthermore NEMs mosaics, namespace and multi-sig are sure all possible with Ethereum but again it's just WAY easier to do it with NEM. So if your usecase is anything except smart contracts using Eth over NEM would be downright silly.

re:b) - Yeah, I hear ya. I have no idea how great exactly we're doing ther either because very little information is available in english. NEM had the success it had in Japan because we had people in Japan pushing it. Noone should expect this to happen in Europe or anywhere else without someone actively getting out there are marketing NEM. Anyone is welcome to do this and if you wanna be more active join our slack/telegram.

I was nervous about posting the message you replied to. Thought Id be branded a FUDster.
However your answers are excellent and so Im glad I did.

Congratulations to BTC38 for adding the first fiat link with XEM as their CNY/XEM trading pair.

This is an important milestone as we now have a link between the old economy and the new.

Did you ever elaborate on this reply from rockethead regarding your departure from DragonFly?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=654845.msg13983967#msg13983967

I don't really have anything to add. I'm working with a great team on a new project here in Japan and I am working hard and focusing on my work.

All i know is you are doing an amazing job, and keep up the great work!

I was nervous about posting the message you replied to. Thought Id be branded a FUDster.
However your answers are excellent and so Im glad I did.

That was no way near FUD  Smiley

We've been through some chit storms a while ago so most of the community can differentiate quite well between valid questions and FUD attempts ( even the cunning ones  Smiley )

Your questions were legit and we should encourage everyone to share these opinions here! One should never be blind to what's happening in the rest of the world, especially in cryptosphere where we seem to be racing each other even though we don't know where we are heading to Wink

Actually NEM has never been trying to beat ETH. The devs have created something that is user friendly (the API's are great) and still leaves much flexibility. Few people realise just how much the NEM devs are thinking ahead! The devs are not just great at coding, they have shown to be very skilled at taking the right conceptual decisions, and that's what makes me enthusiastic about NEM in the first place.

As patmast3r said; depending on what you need you may prefer ETH over NEM, but NEM is already capable of doing great things in an effective way. So once companies start to look into NEM most of them should realise they might not need all the ETH bling and can be done with the job much faster if they just use NEM (although some of them may need ETH after all).

The true nemsters in here believe that it is better to have a limited set of well considered features that are user friendly yet flexible to work with than to have countless features that nobody will ever use.
On the other side NEM has never had the funding ETH had to start with. As a result NEM's development has been criticised to be slow and exposure to be minimal outside this forum. Makoto did a great job for that in Japan and that's the reason so much promising news is coming from Japan ( although most of us are only seeing the tip of the iceberg).

If NEM would have a Makoto in Europe and the US things would probably start to look quite different. This is the main reason I am excited about the recent spike in the price, because it will hopefully take care of some of the lack of exposure that NEM is suffering from and it creates some opportunities towards the future funding of the development and marketing of NEM.

So NEM may not be the elephant in the cryptoshpere and alot is happening behind the scenes, but overall I truly believe NEM has a great future ahead. Those patient enough to stick along will hopefully be able to look back to these exciting times where all of it started to get some traction :-)

I bought and stashed a few XEM last year, can't remember exactly when. I have name.adb and name.wlt, as well as the password I used when creating the wallet. I do not have the private key. When I run the client, it sees the wallet, but when I type the password it tells me:

"Oops!

ERROR 123

NIS: ADDRESS BOOK COULD NOT BE READ"

Is all lost?

Where did you keep those files ?

Not having the private key any more is a big fail :/
Aside from that, are you sure the password is correct? Are the two files (name.adb and name.wlt) in the correct location?
