the title of the thread needs to be updated to accurately reflect the current project status so people don't get confused.

The NEM beta blockchain has more than 1 million transactions inside (Nxt blockchain has about 680k transactions). Many transactions have a message attached which increases the size of the database too.
My node needs about 80 minutes to sync from scratch (with a not yet released version of NIS).
That's a remarkable achievement. Congrats to all the devs and nemsters to reach 1 million transactions in the testnet itself. This speaks the awesomeness of our devs and their coding because the current beta 0.4.36 is quite stable than the previous versions that I have tested. Cheesy

I agree.  That is quite a big deal.  I am not sure how long it took Bitcoin to get to 1 million, but I think it took a long time.

My version of NEM has been working well too.  24-7 for almost two weeks.

It's not really that big of a deal. It would be if those were actuall trades but we're pre-launch so it's people running spambots and stuff. It's very cool that our network seems to be able to handle that kind of load but the mere existence of that amount isn't very remarkable Smiley

any stats on the average number of tx/per block or peak no of tx/block, longest number of blocks in row that have max number of tx in them etc? i think those are more important numbers than just x tx have been done in the beta and matter much much more too as they give a good insight into what the network should be able to handle after launch..

I'm sure bloody could pull such stats but from what i remember there were quite a few streaks where many adjacent blocks were completely filled with tx.

I remember once seeing like 60 full blocks in a row, each with 120 transactions.  I know because I remember it was exactly an hour of full blocks.  Maybe there are other times it went longer.  That is just a time I stumbled upon once.

A million may not be a lot. But it means a lot if the tx/s is high. Given the period of about 60 days(?), this is something like 16K tx per day or about 600 tx/hr. I think the most revealing is the last month when we started spamming big time. If we can match BTC tx/s today, we should be able to see this through 1 year without a problem. By which time, a lot more improvements will be released anyway. So, this means something.

There you go, about 2tx/s continuously for 1 hour. THis is sizeable.

Testing is great but there is only one really important question to answer: Is POI secure and bulletprooof?

Stuck at block 63334

If you are really stuck then it would be nice if you could provide the databse file and logs. Does restarting NIS solve the problem?

No, if PoS isn't Smiley
When inducing from the numbers I've seen, PoI looks like the old PoS with new proportional-integral-derivative controller  Undecided

Why don't you let the devs explain who are actually working on the algorithm or wait for the whitepaper/source code before coming to any false conclusions without any facts.

Also: there are different kind of PoS algorithms and PoS can be made secure.

It fell out of sync just before I went to bed, and was still out when I woke up and left for work.  The number looked similar to what I think I remember it being, so I posted that up this morning to see if anyone else was having syncing issues.  I'll try to restart when I get back home (if it's still out of sync of course).

He says: The devs should explain.
You answer: Explain.

 Cool

He is right. The devs only should "explain". But since the code is still not open, they wont. As far as I can tell from my experience, the PoI seems to work great though.

He said : mattadc (and Conurtol) had false args,
I said : we (including him) don't know the facts.
He can prove that the above is wrong Smiley

There's a bit truth in the statement, that "PoI looks like the old PoS with ..."

Basically number of transactions in beta-network is pretty high, but there are two issues:

  • number of accounts is kinda limited
  • from real-life perspective, transactions looks almost like random (and transactions' graph)
    • (reason for that is simple, people are playing with bots and network itself)

Second point is important, as that is not how things look like in real-life. You can take a look at bitcoin's blockchain or NXT's blockchain

I didn't say you made a false argument.
I said you don't have any facts, so let's wait what the devs say + whitepaper + source code. That's all I said.

Heres a little tester : see who can give me the right answer first.
Lets say for sake of argument NEM hit 90000000 marketcap
Btc was 384 dollars exactly
Total Nem coins are 9000000000 ( lets say )
What would be the price of 1 Nem coin in Btc ? And how much would 1 stake pay in dollars ?

2604 satoshis

or 26,04 bits

and one stake would be worth 58,59375 BTC assuming one stake is 2,250,000 NEM.
