This constant angst over a few GHs is so pointless. Just let these things run and quit wasting your time and energy trying to squeeze out (literally) a couple of extra pennies. Downtime from messing with settings and firmware and reapplying thermal paste is doing more harm than good to your earnings.

I agree... I used to have extra exhaust fans on my s1's til I realized how pointless that was and just wasting more power. I don't know why people waste so many hours re-applying thermal paste,etc.. for a few ghs and also the wasted mining from downtime.

I do think there is nothing wrong with oc'ing, upgrading firmware, and updating cgminer. Those things are really easy and don't require too much tinkering. Also with the updated cgminer, the webui is much more responsive due to reduced load.

when I added secondary fans to my s1 I think the temps actually went up... the fans in the back couldn't spin fast enough

I don't get why they don't have both fans run the same speed as dictated by the exhaust temperature.  To have the intake fan run slower because it's cooler means, I'm guessing here, less efficient air flow.  If the slower fan is getting help from the draw of the faster fan it's just a bigger load on the faster fan.

Missed my B8 S3+ delivery today but I'm picking it up from UPS in an hour,  so stoked!  Can't believe they sent these out 2nd Day Air from China at their expense, How Sweet! Cheesy  Bitmain you rule.... well except for your preorder on the L1.

If you aren't too concerned about noise or a little extra power, you could do the "blue wire mod" - i.e. clip it - and it'll run full speed all the time.

i had to turn my miners off for a bit and when i turned them back on cgminer says
This section contains no values yet

on both miners..

i updated both to the new cgminer..

would anything special need to be done to start them back up?

i do have the freq set to s3 default, so its not that..

edit, it seems to be a DNS issue. keyed googles dns in manually and its fixed now..

Temp is good. This has happened to a few people here and I haven't seen a cure for these symptoms. Some people have suggested updating the firmware or going and doing a reboot from the system tab. If your hashing is good and the hw errors are low then it isn't something to really worry about. Are the fans fairly quiet? It doesn't sound like an old school vacuum machine does it?

hashrate is good, and reject about 1% in sometimes.

the fan has a sound and it seems its wind is warm.

Just like mine - not hot air filling a room Smiley It sounds like it just can't properly monitor the speed of the fans. Just to cover your bases I'd contact Bitmain and see what they say.

I had this problem when I updated the firmware to the Aug version.  My S3's are pre-B8.  I reverted back to the July 21 firmware and everything is fine.

On older units, you need to clear settings when you update firmware, or it'll have issues.

@BITMAIN, what's the hold-up with

1. Announcing price and availability of S3+ B9?
2. Updating firmware to incorporate the latest cgminer v4.6.0?
3. Announcing any news concerning the S4?

I really wish you would take the information flow and interaction here more seriously!

What exactly are you expecting them to do? If they announce too soon they get yelled at for running a preorder. If they wait they get yelled at just because. I don't care much either way, whenever they announce I'll run the numbers and buy or not. Agree on the cgminer upgrade though, would be nice if they could put some effort towards it.

Besides security, what performance or efficiency gains will I get from the cgminer update on my S3+ B8?  and Do I even need to update?

Also because I have the overclocked from the factory S3+ B8 do I need to plug in all 4 PCIe cables or am I OK still only plugging in two?  I plan on putting 3 S3s into 1 1200 watt PSU (Corsair AX1200i)

Thanks in Advance for your response!!

1. cgminer 4.6 has bugfixes for some security holes, however, in terms of performance gains, the jury is still out (see update to OP here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=750220.new#new, suffice to say it will reduce the load on your controller.
2. Running 3 S3 units at stock on a 1200 watt PSU will push it to the max. I personally would run only 2 on that.
