Hi all,

Hope someone can help in response to a problem I'm having with an RMA.  I'd been through all the diags with Tim from Bitmain and he'd agreed to do an RMA for one of the hashing boards as its only hashing at 170-176Gh, the other is fine.  I'd explained to Tim that I'd bought it from a reseller and was happy to purchase a board from them and then send the other back for a refund.

They advised that there was a 0.66BTC charge  (I know!) for a hashing board but would be refunded when the other is returned so I was happy to do this.  I filled the form in without the order number and reiterated that I bought from a reseller and I thought they'd be ok as I was paying for the board.  But my request got rejected at the final hurdle and was told to go back to my reseller.

Sooooooo I emailed my reseller who advised that I need to send a screenshot in, which I did.  It shows the unit on for about 14 hours with a hashrate of 387Ghs at stock speed.

The reseller has now been in touch and advised me that Bitmain are now refusing to do an RMA as it's within a +/- 10% threshold!

Anyone had anything similar happen? So frustrating!

Thought I'd post an update.  My reseller (Briztech) has been awesome with this.  He went back to Bitmain with the email trail I had from Tim and they've now agreed to do an RMA :O) sent the board back last week(weds) and am awaiting replacement.

Thanks Briztech and Bitmain :O)

I sent the board back to Bitmains UK distribution centre, anyone know how long they take to do an RMA?

Getting an answer from Bitmain is like getting blood from a stone:

Post a question here - nothing.
PM them a question - nothing.
Email them a question - nothing.

S2 & S3 users have been waiting since August 18th for these answers, that's over 6 weeks!

Dear Community,

Our truly apologies for the mis-understanding reported....blah blah......there is a little mis-communicaton between Customer Service Team and R&D Department...blah blah.....

Any advice from the Community and Global Customers is appreciated, feel free to contact us via PM or info@bitmaintech.com.

Thank you!

Now they have finally upload the newer cgminer code that fixes the security holes (6 weeks late), but they don't give users any information about how to apply the update!! Does that mean their customers have to wait another 6 weeks to get an answer?

It takes seconds to read a post, and minutes to reply with instructions on how to update, yet they don't seem at all interested in making sure that all their customers miners are safe from exploitation.....why is that Bitmain?

This is a simple and quick fix.  The recipe has been posted many times in the forums.

1. SSH into the S3 and login
2. Issue the following commands sequentially.
  a) cd /usr/bin
  b) mv cgminer cgminer.bak
  c) wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/antminer/s3/4.6.0-140908/cgminer
  d) chmod +x cgminer
3. Reboot

For the S3, yes, but not for the S2. Besides, Bitmain should supply the latest cgminer in their firmware as they promised to do over 6 weeks ago - many users don't have the tech know-how to update their miners like this & if they get it wrong, they can brick their units. Releasing it as a firmware update is safer & more user friendly  Wink

replace reboot with
/etc/init.d/cgminer restart
or
/etc/init.d/cgminer stop
/etc/init.d/cgminer start

no need to reboot the device! OMG! A block could be found in that time!!!

when will the S3+ Batch 10 be listed?

I think it's been posted that BitMain will be closed for holidays until 06 October, so probably not before then.  I think I read someone state by end of October shipping but don't know how they got that info.  I saw a couple people selling S3+'s on eBay for $290-300 shipped on hand if you don't want to wait.

Hi,
How do we configure the antminer to send btc to our address? We wish to go solo for a bit then maybe join a pool later. Thanks for considering. Despite the basic question, we have logged onto the antminer through the ip address and have been poking around. I'm just not finding anything straitforward.

Try this link, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=763510.0   This is probably the easiest way to solomine with the Antminer.

Hopefully you are factoring in your electricity costs.  I'm approaching ROI on my first S3's, but that is when ignoring the power consumption cost.  Things are significantly worse when electricity costs are applied (in my location it is wiser to turn these off during peak electricity times with current BTC exchange rate).

Cheers

Has there been any indication on when B10 will start taking orders?  I'm curious to see if they lower the price much with btc being so low.

Is it possible to order a replacement controller board?  I bricked one of my S3's with a bad firmware load, so I do not think it is eligible for an RMA, and I would like to buy a replacement controller.

I ordered an Arduino kit and will try to fix it myself, but I would rather buy a whole new controller.  I found the method using an Arduino here.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=330665.msg8622866#msg8622866

The S3 Ethernet connection gets a link, but no IP.  I can see the MAC address from the switch.  Is there a way to fix this by communicating over layer 2 using the Ethernet port?

Please, no responses about using the reset button. That is not working.  Unless there is some secret Morse Code method. Smiley

Thanks in advance for helpful feedback.

Can't you use the factory reset button to fix that?  Im not sure but it would make sense.

one of my S3 fans totally died. 0 RPM. on the fan it says model number JDH1238B I had a 3 pin 2000 RPM fan but won't fit because pins are larger and 4 pin. Any advise for me to fix or buy? Send it back to China or cut the connector?
