Clearinghouse site is down btw...  http://clearinghouse.io

Drak's aware of this it's nothing to worry about, he hasn't said what's going on behind the curtain possibly an update we have to wait and see.

BTW it will soon be Viacoin's 1st Birthday

Yeah there's some shenanigans between registry and the tld registry, in any case I am on it and aware of the issue and it will be solved although it might not be super quick. This is in the wrong thread btw Smiley

Drak, syncing is too slow.  This is a problem.  Please fix.

I know someone mentioned to use Clearwallet.  But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be looked into and get it fixed.

It's being investigated. Remember there's also Vialectrum wallet.

I'm thinking of getting into this one, but when will the block reward halve? It's not in the OP.

It doesnt halve but declines according to this schedule

Blocks 42402-5256000 = 5 VIA
Blocks 5256001-10512000 =4 VIA
Blocks 10512001-15768000 = 3 VIA
Blocks 15768001-21024000 = 2 VIA
Blocks 21024001-26280000 = 1 VIA
Blocks 26280001-31536000 = 0.5 VIA

Blocks 42402-5256000 = 5 VIA
Blocks 5256001-10512000 =4 VIA
Blocks 10512001-15768000 = 3 VIA
Blocks 15768001-21024000 = 2 VIA
Blocks 21024001-26280000 = 1 VIA
Blocks 26280001-31536000 = 0.5 VIA

This reward schedule is confusing. VIA has 1,237,584 blocks (30 second block times?) with a money supply of 16,224,325 VIA. That would make the block reward averaging 13.11 VIA/block. The current output is 5 per block and the emission is only about 1/4 the way to the drop to 4 VIA. Was the block reward prior to 42,402 something like 242 VIA?

With a 30 second block time, the current emission will yield 5,256,000 VIA per year. Starting from now, that's an inflation rate of 33.3%. After 1 year, the inflation will drop to 25%. After two years the rate drops to 20%. Then, the 4 VIA reward kicks in and inflation drops to 13% for the 4th year, starting from now. 13-16% is not bad, but the 33.3% annual inflation currently experienced is going to have a significant impact on price.

Starting from now, that's an inflation rate of 33.3%.

If you're doing percentage calculation you need to take into account the previous blocks too

Block 0 = 0 VIA
Block 1 = 10,000,000 VIA (distributed)
Blocks 2-10001 = 0 VIA
Blocks 10002-20801 = 10 VIA
Blocks 20802-31601 = 7 VIA
Blocks 31602-42401 = 6 VIA

What I mean is that the money supply will grow by 33% over the next year. History is irrelevant.

How was the 10M "distributed"?

I installed the Android wallet to send a few VIA to and it can't pick up any peers. I notice a "Trusted Peer" setting. What can I fill in so that I can get the wallet working? It's version 4.12 downloaded from Google Play.

Also when I open it from the My Apps section of Google Play it says a new version is available. When I click on "Play" it takes me to the version I already have. When I click "Download" it takes me to a 404 page under user Schildbach.

I added a trusted peer from the chainz block explorer and I still get no connections. Is this wallet just old? Because it looks to have downloaded 422897 blocks (11/18/2014) and stopped.

I have DOGE and LTC android wallets on the same device and they work without any problems.

I am afraid the developer of that mobile wallet vanished and never upgraded it for the merged mining hard fork.

shame was looking like a nice wallet,  it might be a version of Bitcoin Wallet https://github.com/schildbach/bitcoin-wallet

I never tried it but it has some good reviews

Those mobile wallets are great. They sync really fast. You can back up the new ones to cloud storage, like Drop Box, directly.

Where are more details on VIA merged mining? Was there an algo change? What is it merge-mineable with?

Having a well-maintained mobile wallet is a prerequisite for a top tier coin these days.

Isn't that a community task? Maybe that is a project that can be funded if it has some priority?
