New Monero-Only DNM marketplace:

https://www.deepdotweb.com/marketplace-directory/listing/libertas-market/

I've become somewhat less excited about the potential that DNM's have to push Monero's price. It seems that they are all, at some point or other, congenitally designed to exit scam. Inevitably - and it seems this is already happening - people will get fed up of getting screwed and move on to some other way of obtaining what they want.

I'm pretty sure that going to the streets would be more hazardous and not eliminate the risk of getting ripped off. Still not sure why people leave so much money on DMs when the history of scams is so well documented. My guess is vendors limit their liability to an acceptable level, but need to complain when it actually happens.

Ok, i get monero is quite cool coin with being a king in privacy voins, which of them does come close to it? Zcoin? Pivx? Zcash?
Beside monero, my second postion will be (is) in zcoin. What do you think?

Monero forks. Aeon, Sumocoin(have 10% premine and only few % coins is out right now). Not sure what happened to BipCoin.  It seems is still there but low volume.
Other cryptonote brothers and sisters mostly ended its development. Like Boolbery, DigitalNote,..
Bytecoin was hugely premined before was announced.

I think all 3 coins you mention are Bitcoin clones. So all what they do you could do with bitcoin one day, or you can if it is actually useful. ZCash have problem with trusted setup.  All have optional anonimity with just few % of anon transactions. I dont really know any of those coins much to be able to tell something smart, but in general are far from what you can do with Cryptonote coins.

I was thinking more along the lines of decentralized markets like Open Bazaar.

Gotcha, makes sense now.

Not sure how many buyers want to download a market. Though if enough vendors moved that direction, they'd likely follow the goods. I read there's a OB version upcoming that doesn't require downloading, so that should show if my opinion is reality based or not.

Deleted rippled off (plagiarized) repost of ancient content from the thread (probably some sort of activity mining)

The bigger money is more risk-averse. The development team structure is an area of risk. Less confidence can be placed in an anonymous party than in identified parties.  Open-source code-review, if thorough, can dispell some but not all of this uncertainty. The relative market caps of XMR and BBR are pretty well explained by the difference in team structure. To make this point speculative, consider that CZ could identify himself at any time, or even just disavow the Sabelnikov identity, or more broadly, participating in bytecoin. If he did, money flow to BBR might reduce moneyflow to XMR. The market priced this so that the XMR-invest, BBR-hedge was nicely asymmetric, but now SuperNET has pumped BBR.  I consider that the hedge has paid off.  Thus I tend to short the hedge when it is overbought.  But when it all blows over, I expect the cheap hedge to come back, and I plan to make more use of it in my portfolio.

The coinhive.com success will increase the risk of the 51% attack. So why should not we start more of these web-mining services? Mining will be decentralized more and there will be less 51% risk.

The Monero community for sure have ability to do this.

I think there are some people already working on it. I agree it is a good idea to encourage those efforts.

Hmm... Sounds good. So you think some people are working on, or do you know some are working on it?

And we need many of these webmining services. So that there for sure is as less centralization as possible. And to let the webminingpool fees to go down. Anyway what kind of a hardware/software/maintenance is needed at the webmining service provider side? If money is needed to start this, it will not be a problem. XMR crowd funding will do it in no time.

Yea. Definetely webmining is good for any coin. Specially as long as there is enough webminingpools to keep it decentralized.

We are working on it! We are https://minero.cc and we are offering most of the services that the competition offers, at a smaller fee. Currently looking for publishers interested in trying out our miner.

The news is spreading and the CSs is lookiong good indeed.

https://bitflyer.jp/common/theme/css/common?v=bIFPKP476Pq5WnxPO4y6r_F8Xl7e0Unuj8yfB-RpooE1

Search the CSS for: .icon-coins-xmr .icon-coins-xem .icon-coins-zec .icon-coins-dash

I don't know how big the Bitflyer volumes are, but it can be only good for Monero, although I'm already happy at current price levels Cheesy

I don't know how big the Bitflyer volumes are...

Bigly big.  And yes, you can make a good living buying XMR from Europeans by day and selling them to Asians by  night.

In that case I will not bother speculating. I'll just HODL, it's a strategy that paid up nicely until now.
The 100$ barrier was broken, even if now we are a little bit under it. I'll wait for 500$ or maybe even 1000$. Monero worth it.

It is just a rumor. But on other hand rumor about bithumb started just the same. At least 2 weeks before Monero was announced to go on bithumb and price back then was sub $50.

I am a speculator.  I do use Monero to buy things.  But I also buy it to hold it because I think it has the potential to be worth much more in the future.  Unfortunately for me I have lost almost all my XMR holdings.  I know it's popular to talk about boating accidents... but I just keep mine on USB keys, and then I leave them in pants pockets and wash them and then dry them (I wonder which part of that does the true destroying?) so the private keys are gone and my dozens of XMR are lost.

But I keep trying!

To continue my recent trend of "talking my book"...  I am taking one LAST (seriously... cut me off after this one, I can't make it home if I have another) dip into my precious BTC pile to supplement my XMR holdings.  I have entered one last time (I SWEAR IT THIS TIME I REALLY DO) @ .0168 - .017.

Wish me luck!  Let's see if can not lose these too.

You know one of the things I bought with my monero is a Cryptosteel. Wink  Another was a Ledger Nano S.

Starting to feel shity exchanges are rather safe after all the boating accidents and machine washing Moneros:) I had a paper wallet gone with wind, and a few days ago i found it when i was packing to move homes once again:) so i actually have a few BTC that are not balls deep in alts. might throw it monero way.

Yes.  I think it is safe to say Monero are the most LOST cryptocurrency of them all.  By far.

People buy them, and then they are gone... leaving no trace.

Eventually the reality of what this actually means will sink in for MANY MANY MANY more people...
