monero going down with majority of alts. btc has been sideways for quite sometime.

do you guys think this is the start of a dump?

In last 7 days it shows tome that Bitcoin gained 3% of value and Monero gained 11.2% of value. So I am not really sure where you see that price of Monero is decreasing.   Last two days price of Monero was around $300-320.

If you are asking if now is gonna be start of Monero dump I dont see any reason for that. There was no recent unusual price increase.

...something that might or not might happen in 10+ years is a bit waste of time.

That depends a lot on your investment horizon and your discounting as a function of time.  If you want an asset that will achieve high value in 10 years, then it makes sense to think ten years ahead   if you see the bulk of the discounted opportunity as occuring on a ten year time scale, then it makes sense to try to estimate a prior distribution on that opportunity.

This being the speculation thread, most folks are looking for rapid short term moves, but even distant speculations are speculations, and entirely suited to the thread topic.

It has generally been longer term speculations that have given me the most gains and the fewest losses, so I am biased towards considering events on a monthly to yearly to decade-wise time scale, personally.  The shorter term stuff is driven by mostly exogenous impulses and fickle  sentiments that are predictable only with a lot of effort and to a limited degree (absent inside information).  The longer arc is more fundamentally determined, and hence more reliably predictable, in my experience.

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Give a man a Poisson distribution and he eats at random times independent of one another, at a constant known rate.

No way! Tiny fluctuations in short time periods won't give you a good picture of the overall trend. Pull your perspective back a click or two, and give it a little time.  Grin

So here's a new way to spend your crypto this year!

Thank you xmr.to!

PS. it should be a short trip for them to start taking Monero with all of the work that's being done on various shopping carts.

There is a rumor going around that Coinbase will get into Monero. I do not know how real this news is. But even the rumor can raise the price. My personal idea; these reports may come true.

I will be happy to see when Monero will have today's Bitcoins number of transactions. It is hard for em to see beyond that. And period I am assuming that will need to pass to achieve that looks like a long term in crypto to me.  We are lucky we have Bitcoin that will try solutions first.  Seeing what they will do and  what that will bring to Bitcoin and how it will preform, will also help me to get much clearer picture.

He actually has a point.  There's no need denying the fact that Monero has been going sideways lately.  But it's all good.  Sooner or later the politicians will start cracking down on Bitcoin money laundering and could even start ordering services to black list some coins that are proven to be connected to DNM's.  Once that happens where do you think everyone will run to?  Dash, Zcash?  Oh I hope they do.  It's the only way for everyone to realize which crypto is the best.

volatility is not the same as a dump. Today btc is on the rise again, so compared to btc is xmr going down a bit, yes. I don't want to call it a dump though, in fact I call it a great buying opportunity. that's what I just did, trade some more btc for some more xmr.  Cool

I get the feeling that no one knows how to price-in coinbase, or if they should--so...

Multisig and hardware wallet feel like they've been priced-in, just by how the market clicked up when those looked imminent. Was kind of suprised by the jump with coral reef as that was a terribly kept secret, so what do i know.

Staying above $300 for the most part.  $300 DOLLARS!

Remember Risto's probability case( I think we were ~30 cents at the time Cheesy ) for each of: $3 $30 $300 $3000 ?
I would suspect that we are in for another 10x somewhere in the next year.  What then? Shocked Grin

I've just submitted my laddered XMR/BTC buy orders from 0.016 downwards.
It's insanity at these prices when the XMR transaction count is higher than 1.8% of BTC's.

It might surprise you, but I think a substantial portion of the people inhere don't. They just hold and buy more, never sell.
