In addition to all the points made above:
Name variations are permissible. LitecoinDark is technically a different name than Litecoin in the same way that American Standard is different than American Standard Oil.
And then I ask myself about one of the things mentioned above - lawyers keep that stuff secret... Yes, they do until a case is actually filed. So, since Google doesn't show a case having been filed but it does show some twit's tweet - how did she get wind of it unless she pulled it straight from the crack of her derriere?

Happy talk doesn't answer the question man. Trademark law is serious stuff. Kayne West killed that coin that took his name. BCTD could be sued also but the Bitcoin people are hippies and I guess don't care. Just some documentation would quiet this.

Open source and trademark expired & name variation means no lawyer worth his salt would touch this.

I just saw on Twitter that Litecoindark is getting sued by LiteCoin for trademark theft. I am not FUDDing, I can't do links from this stupid phone. Someone with a real internet connection please post a link. Her Twitter handle is "manelecrypto". She says exchanges, merchants everyone will be receiving cease and desist letters from LiteCoin's attorneys. Someone respond ASAP. I have lots of money over here I do not want have vaporized. Just saying, "No problem. it is whales FUDDing and collecting cheap coins" will not cut it. What deal was arranged go use the LiteCoin name? LiteCoin is an actual registered US company not just some guys in a dorm.
Search engines turn up nothing regarding the subject so far. Seeing that twitter account's other posts I personally don't worry too much and keeping my LTCD Search engines won't have it until someone gets a letter from a lawyer. Companies do not talk about this stuff they act first. That Twitter girl says lots of crap but none of it is exactly wrong. She's a Doge lover but Doge hasn't been sucking so bad these days. Need devs to post agreement with LiteCoin giving authorization to use mark or someone from LiteCoin to see it is cool or I am dumping. Already stated but, how does she have that info if "the internet" doesn't? Either its pulled out of her ... or she has inside info. I wouldn't jump the gun too quick tbh

Are you the chick that posted that tweet? Seriously, what part of NAME VARIATION being PERMISSIBLE do you not understand? It is a legal precedent that has been set a long long time ago and has held up thousands of times. I know this because I have several corporations on file and have had a couple allegations against me for having a similar choice of name to an already existing name. Those cases were dismissed before any court appearance became necessary. Judges ruled them frivolous and without merit upon initial review. Go learn something. Google and Wikipedia will get you straightened out on general legal matters. Happy talk doesn't answer the question man. Trademark law is serious stuff. Kayne West killed that coin that took his name. BCTD could be sued also but the Bitcoin people are hippies and I guess don't care. Just some documentation would quiet this.

People know people and get inside info. Maybe she sucked the right dick? Who knows? You're right about derivative names; after 5 years and 100s of thousands of dollars LiteCoindark wins. Meanwhile we all have great big 1 litoshi bags.

She doesn't know anybody of any significance. Would you put your appendage in a face like hers? So what makes you think anyone else would? In order for a defense to cost what you suggest, the plaintiff would have to put up that amount or more, just to get the case started. I don't see that happening here. You can't sue me for free and think that it would cost me a dime to defend against you. Or can you? Just let it go. *YOUR* fud has failed. People know people and get inside info. Maybe she sucked the right dick? Who knows? You're right about derivative names; after 5 years and 100s of thousands of dollars LiteCoindark wins. Meanwhile we all have great big 1 litoshi bags.

OMFG how much effort does it take to ensure you remain so ignorant on the subject of decentralised, open-source, currencies? Nobody 'owns' these projects. The Kanye West issue was because he owns his image rights. So, unless you can find a celebrity called Mr Litecoin, you're not going to encounter legal difficulties with using any similar names or terms between coin projects, unless a particular tech is closed-source and is the intellectual property of a legal entity.
