Don't take this the wrong way (as I really like the idea of this pool), but what are the advantages of mining here vs. real solo mining, assuming I already have a full node up and running?

Advantages over regular solo mining:
Mining at solo.ckpool.org avoids the overheads of running a full bitcoin node that requires both great storage and bandwidth for optimal performance.
Solo.ckpool.org is extensively connected to high speed low latency bitcoin nodes for rapid block change notification and propagation.
Unlike regular pools, ckpool never mines transaction-free blocks due to its ultra-scaleable code which has miners on both new blocks and transactions concurrently.

Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

With gbt Wink
Bitcoind does not support stratum and running full node well conected costs money ram cpu and bandwith...Chances to get orphan/stale block with home node are very very big. So unless you are NOT 100 sure what you are doing just spent 0.5% for fee and this will get back to you milion times if your are lucky to find a block
It worts trust me

Please help the Led Boy aka Bicknellski to make us a nice Christmas led tree and pay WASP membership fee here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=643999.msg7191563#msg7191563
And remember Bicknellski is not collecting money from community;D

Oh I don't mind the fee. Obviously worth it if you hit a block. Its just I have a full node running for a month or so now and was wondering, that's all. Connectivity might be the biggest advantage I see.

Do what I did, solo mine off your own node for a while then mine off this solo pool and compare results.  Solo mining off my own node was problem after problem, I gave it up quickly.

Hmm.  Kind of hard to compare results unless you hit blocks both ways.

What problems did you have solo mining off your own node?  It's pretty straightforward.

I too prefer to solo mine here for the performance, but my own node is always in the end my list too.

I had connectivity issues with mining my own node.  I had other errors but I can't recall their exact nature.  I couldn't set it mining and walk away, something always needed baby sitting.  No such issues with solo ckpool.

I like renting big hash and giving this a go every week - my biggest problem is when I get about halfway through the rental time I switch it to a pool -- maybe 1 day i will hit a block in the first half of the rental  Roll Eyes

No, but there also isn't a DNS server on the server. There's basically nothing but ckpool, bitcoind and the relay client.

Seems like ages since a block was found now gotta be nearly a week? Think I might have to try my luck again see if I can change that Smiley.

Well overall hashrate has been down averaging only 800TH for the last week so it's not unexpected. The big hasher that found the last few blocks seems to have moved to westhash.
