Nice, I love to see the solo solves.  Looks like a little bit of rental did it for this lucky finder!

It's funny that I/we think of 80T as "not that much hash power", but when you picture 75 S5s in a room you realize it's quite substantial.

Indeed, rental hash is the sh*t  Wink. I have 2 x SP20's & an S4 baking my office & one of the SP20's hit a 3G share today and I got excited lol. I can't imagine 75 S5's in the same place or haobtc's kangding mine with 11k+ S3 miners, that must be insane.

How efficient is cgminer on an S3 or S5 at splitting its time among two pools?  When you choose "balanced" or "load balanced", do you leave " a little on the table"?  I would like to point half my miner to this solo pool and half to kano pool.  If the machines do not operate optimally under these conditions, I may reconsider. Will this lead to more unaccepted/stale shares?

No idea why you think cgminer would lose anything extra in this configuration (no idea about other miners)
It doesn't lose shares/work ... or anything extra from using multiple pools.

Though I do mean cgminer, not the hacked versions of cgminer produced by others, that I can not vouch for at all since they seem to often do stupid things in their versions.

Okay, to put it another way.... does the over head of managing two pools (or three) erode the efficiency of the limited processing power of the on-board cpu enough to make it less efficient than it otherwise would only communicating with one pool?

Don't get me wrong... I like your answer!  It makes a hobbyist like me able to multi-plex my pool allegiance without getting penalized!

I get that you say the answer is 'no', but I question the computing power of the little onboard ARM cpu.  It can walk and chew gum....

It's fine. It takes virtually no more cpu power to speak to 2 pools concurrently.

hmm some reason when i do it on my s3 i get a TON of rejects on pool 2 and 3.
its like its taking the work of pool 1, submitting it to 2 and 3 and they reject it.

ill turn it on for a few and show a screenshot.

edit here is screen shot..
if you notice pool 2 is not accepting almost half the work. every time i refresh the page i get about 30 more rejects
this is antpool normally i get about 1 or 2 rejects a day..
if i leave it run for awhile. eventually pool 3 will start doing the same thing. i am using the cgminer from nicehash.

Note that antpool mines bullshit coins too so they disagree on what a block change is and you have no problem from the 2 ckpools mining together. That's why. Solo and Kano ckpool only mine bitcoins. Make of that what you will but my advice is to only mine real coins.

oh ok, that could be it..
think the last time i tried balanced i was using f2pool and antpool and both of those were almost 100% rejects..

so it depends on the pool. that makes complete sense.

It's worth noting that any alleged extra profit from these various shit coins they add to their mining profile causes potentially lots of other harm that you don't know about in terms of overhead, latency, failed block changes (see Kano's data comparing pool block change times), more lost work due to more frequent restarts, and who knows what other issues. Even if all the shit coins in the world are merged mine together they probably still don't even add 1% profit to mining, yet can you say with any certainty that the pools that have their extra overhead aren't losing more than 1% due to the overheads? Normal mining variance alone is enough noise in the statistics to prevent you ever knowing for sure.

ck this is a good point

take f2pool    gold standard for for pps  but a 4% charge for that.

right now I have some gear spilt with f2pool and your pool and some gear fully at f2pool.

look what load balance does to the reject rates. that 14% reject rate is due to load balance with f2pool and your pool.

but if I load balance btcguild with your pool I get 2% (just 1 extra coin NMC)
and if I load balance kano with your pool I get 1.5% (no extra coins at all)

The point is that merged mining pools shall not reject shares on aux chain changes....those shares are still valid for BTC chain  Wink even frequent job restarts shal have zero impact on rejects in that case Grin it turns out that they can even reject BTC block solver in that case  Grin Grin nice...
The real problem is not "shit coin" mining itself but shitty pool implementation... Grin
At the end of the story they can even skip stratum jobs restarts (and hive higher stall aux block rate as side effect) on aux chain changes just to guard against shitty ASIC MCU (PIC) firmware written by same idiots Grin
But who cares ...when I see topics like who speaks Chinese I need to mine in China pool I just feel petty for these guys .............
And assuming all participants have higher pool reject rate (Let us say 10%) in mm pool you lose nothing at the end except possible 25 btc rejected due to above reasons...In other words at 10% rejects one of 10 VALID BTC BLOCKS is rejected by the pool...Will MM coins value compensate for it ...NO!!!!! Cheesy
Once again avoid using Chinese  pools at any cost not only because of the above but if you wanna help the BTC to stay alive in general!

Please help the Led Boy aka Bicknellski to make us a nice Christmas led tree and pay WASP membership fee here:

to me f2pool is okay as it is the gold standard of pps no other pools in China run pps.

BUT AS YOU CAN SEE  From my screen shot f2pool does have flaws.

 I now use:

1)ck's  solo pool
2)mmpool
3)f2 pool

I don't use ppns pools or p2p pools  but I do run a node to help support the network.

If my power rates in NJ summer = 18 cents were better I would mine differently.

No hard feelings Philipma. My intentions were not to offend you or anyone else. I have just explained what is all about. I am not sure if you got details because I am not native English speaker.....
Peace....
Every one is free to chose where to lose his money..all of us are having tough times in current situation. For me the dilemma is not how much I am making and how to make more..but when I loose who to sport with my loss if that can be called suport at all.I am addicted to mining and all related  stuff including software part.
So...I have my choice and it will never be a Chinese pool..
I am dealing in my workwith Chinese software "miracles" unrelated to Bitcoin all day long. So I am enough.  Btc world is no exception except  one CHINESE company which does not have a pool and is truly opened sourced.
I am not naming it because I do not wanna start discussion about it. All I wanted to say that almost everything related with software in general comming from China is a total shit including BTC world  Wink
When you are making a fortune or you count on next fool in the chain all is perfect and no one cares but it is time for all of us to think and start to care about that tiny details here and there otherwise BTC will be dead soon..
There is no fool chain any more and that community is that last fool in Chinese chain. So let us support each other and stop acting like total fools

Please help the Led Boy aka Bicknellski to make us a nice Christmas led tree and pay WASP membership fee here:

And remember Bicknellski is not collecting money from community;D
