This pool has the best community. I have one of Sidehack's hacked S7s (which used to be in Fuzzy's mine) running in my office again - at least another 3th/s to the pool! Running in one of phillipma's silencer boxes. https://i.imgur.com/kcA07t3.jpgI haven't seen one of these silencer boxes. Does it actually kill out some of the noise? Must be nice to mine at work. Welcome back (if you ever left). I joined up with one S9 4 or so days ago. Glad to see the blocks popping, and I'd like to think I brought a little luck with me This community has been very active so far and I love getting insight from other miners. Not too many in my area here in Arkansas. Never left - just didn't have this one machine running. The box drops noises from 55 db to 25db when i wrap it in a moving blanket. Sidehack's S7s draw like 900watts though, so not too loud anyway.

you are 100% in asking the question and difficulty change play a big part in this. The thing I am taking into consideration - for the difficulty to increase by 10% or 20% per month the network has to add that % hashing power. Now with an estimated 16-17Eh in the network... calculate the number of S9s needed to do that. It will plato imo but continue going up. How much ? Who knows.
edit: also keep in mind that other SHA-256 coins take some of the hashing produced.
That's a fair point. However, I wonder if the hashing power won't grow at that rate or even higher. With all of the ASICs in the market and more powerful and plentiful ones coming, it isn't hard to imagine the network growing exponentially. Well, that is the question. You think Bitmain+others can produce 20% per month? - ~252 000 miners a month and keep going....(302 000... 363 400.... 435 200... ) ? As a side-note: Electrical requirement rough (at 1.3kW/miner) : 327MW...393MW...471MW...565MW. 500MW is about 2.2 million PV Panels.... every month

I'd almost think you'd need to throw another fan on the end of it to keep the air flowing correctly. https://imgur.com/glJBGnr

Welcome back (if you ever left). I joined up with one S9 4 or so days ago. I've got one here, one at BitMinter and two at Slush trying to get enough to cover the electric cost for the 4 miners for the month. Once that happens I'll probably bring another miner here and another to BitMinter. I love both pools, but I'm always nervous to have all my eggs in one basket. Glad to see the blocks popping, and I'd like to think I brought a little luck with me I'm also not advertising or advocating for BitMinter over Kano or any other pool. Like I said, I'm loving this community so far even though I've been here four days. This community has been very active so far and I love getting insight from other miners. Not too many in my area here in Arkansas. If you are attempting to cover your electric cost for the month, why would you give away extra coin? Surely if you spent 8-10k on miners you could float 450-500 dollar electric bill. Not putting all your eggs in one basic (even though I see it differently) I could understand but not wanting to maximize your profits.

One of the agreements with the wifey was no out of pocket expenses once I had the miners running. So once I cash in enough from Slush to cover January's expense the others will move and surely between the two pools, I will have enough to cover February. Luckily I didn't spend 8-10k. I got mine direct from BitMain at 1430 a piece. On top of that, I used only profits from old machines, and profits from the sale to cover the 4 new ones. My initial plan was to flip one and keep three, but I'm loving having the four running at the moment.

Looks like we are up to 39PH! So maybe Canaan is burning in 4-500 821's. Ramped up pretty quickly. In last day over 10%? I think spikes are them power cycling.

Yep, means they will be ready to ship in the next week or so.

Interesting. You must have a good airflow setup. I would have thought that box would be trapping a ton of heat.

Here's the back: https://i.imgur.com/i2HjjcC.jpgSidehack's S7s have different PIC controllers and are undervolted, only taking up 900w, so you just need one fan at like 25%.

I wondered if it ever really mattered so long as it didn't overheat and shut down over 80. My next step is routing this ducting into the office area and shutting off the heaters. Right now they are venting into a cold warehouse.

Here's a snapshot of now, which is pretty much average for these S7s: https://i.imgur.com/tjKfxts.pngI keep the AC in my office to 60F, and the miner causes it to get up to 64 or so. For the rest of my farm, I keep them venting into an open warehouse just like you do. I haven't seen too much difference in hashrate as long as they're not running at shutdown temps.

What about the frequency? I've bought all mine used and they are running 700 frequency. Is it better to run them lower for longevity or is it more consistent?

These are underclocked on purpose - they pull less power at lower frequency. If I pumped it up to 700, it'd just be another S7 and i'd have to put the back fan back on and move it to my warehouse. The S7s in my warehouse get around 1th/s more - but to me that's not really enough to worry about undoing the mods Sidehack did to these.

Hey...some of us remember when it was under USD $300... I remember when it was $2 at the end of 2011 after a 'bubble' of $30 at the beginning of the year Edit: when I found out about BTC - July 2011 - it was about $17 and for the rest of the year it went down ... clearly the price wasn't what got me interested in it and kept me here
