I was just thinking that today would be a day I didn't wake up to a new block...

Glad I was wrong!

Thank you sweiss!

Indeed! thank you Sweiss. Welcome to the Acclaim board my friend!

If you catch this message, and you don't mind, would you let us know the share difficulty you solved at?
Yeah it doesn't matter, as long as it's 3,511,060,552,899.7 or more ...

It was 29,460,189,313,199.176 / 3,511,060,552,899.7

You can't make your miner get a block, nor can you make it get a higher difficulty share Tongue
It's random - and payout systems based on share difficulty - when blocks are worth $100,000 or more - are completely stupid.
Block finding luck is more than enough of a random element in the payout system

I’m aware Smiley curiosity killed the cat. I was shocked at the 7.something on mine

29 is nuts

Umm..   after struggling for 5 hours pulling wires under the floor of the kitchen I'm renovating..  LITTERALLY sweating and swearing.... I come to see a block.. again!

I like this Sub 100% trend.  We should continue it forever!

66% seems to be the trend, cant complain about that.

Wow, the stark reality of not having enough hashpower is hitting me, and I just put my finger on something I've been noticing now that the pool has quadrupled since I joined.

What I noticed is how many--er, few--shares I'm now submitting during the 5Nd. Since the ramp is getting shorter, I'm not able to submit as many shares during that same period. Hence, my payout "seems" to be shrinking due to 1) a shorter ramp and 2) more people to split it with.

The good news is that we're getting blocks faster than expected, and that's one thing you won't hear me complain about. Grin

Good evening fellow Kanonians.. (what do you call a Kano pool member anyway?)

As you may remember (or likely not because I'm not that interesting) I had 3 S9's plugged into our pool 3 weeks ago. Increased to 5 today, and a 6th one to be plugged in tomorrow.

Of the five S9's presently plugged in, four of them show May 2017, and one of them Dec 2016 in the main status page of the miner.

Which leads me to my question regarding firmware.

The four of them have two each, 2.47 and 2.52. The December unit shows 2.32.

Is there a preferred version that "works best" with our pool? Is it a good idea to update to latest version? Anything to avoid? Best practices for updating?

Thank you in advance for your time and replies, found lots of dated info when I attempted to search.

EDIT: I'm embarrassed.....but I feel it's necessary to bow my head in front of the tribunal and report my mistake. I prematurely completed the checkout to see how easy it was to apply the coupon to finish the order for an S9. Well, I'm still waiting on the rest of my BCH to be deposited from Coinbase and the goddamn order expired. It only gives you 1 hour to complete payment. When it does this, it DOES NOT GIVE YOU BACK THE COUPON!!  Cry Cry Cry
I reached out to BITMAIN (as if that is really going to do anything) and explained, so we'll see if they will have any pity, but doubtful.

They will give you the coupon back to use once you explain what happened, at least they did for me... but you will just have to reorder once they put it back into your account...

Not real user friendly when they make you have BCH (which I dont keep) or a wire transfer (which is also a hassle)  ...

I wonder why they dont take BTC?

Best of luck!

Oh man, that makes me feel better!! I hope that's the case. I plan on ordering more than that, but trying to do them individually with coupons because the price is so smokin' hot.

Still stands that if I can get the larger coupons from any members not using them and want more hash power to go towards this pool, I will donate the lower performing miners to members willing to adopt them and point them back at the pool. Really looking to get he $400 and above coupons (of course, right?) I figure this way everyone is somewhat benefiting.

Nothing happens until something moves.

They dont take BTC becuase its easier to manipulate for their greed,  Make you buy BCH, pushes the price up, they sell off BCH make more than you could of ever dreamed of.  Its basically what no one is allowed to do in the stock market, thats what bitmain is doing.

It's Tuesday morning again. Time to announce the week three winner of the Small Miner Bonus Hash giveaway.

Congratulations to bendsley! It's only an S3, but it's hosted, and mining for YOU! on Kano Pool for the next four days (roughly).

Well, I guess I have go to the mainland to get supplies this weekend. There's the possibility I may have to pull the plug on the SMBH giveaway because of it - I need the field mice to power the boat. If all goes according to my finely honed plans, I should be back on Kano. Is(land) Monday morning. As for Tuesday, there might be a week four, or there may be something different.  Roll Eyes

As you know, we had massive accumulations of discount coupons, which have caused major delays all over the island. School and office closures, power failures, and massive waffles have been reported. We don't currently have reports of casualties. Crews are working diligently with what little equipment they have, as removal gear is normally only needed in more temperate climates (or was). Hopefully, we can pull together as a pool and withstand this onslaught.

For now, that's it from Kano.Is(land). May your difficulty be ever decreasing.

Avoid version 1.0.0 completely if you can.  Anything version 2.0 and higher is fine.  The version 1.0.0 models have a lower than normal block hitting ability statistically from the research Kano has been doing since the S9 first came out.

The widely accepted rule for S9s is "If they are not broke, don't fix them".  IF, AND ONLY IF, you are having problems, you might want to try upgrading the firmware.  For Auto-Freq S9s (just log in and see if the card speeds vary) the November 17 firmware is the latest.  Sometimes it helps, sometimes your better off with the April firmware.  You choice is more limited if you have static speed S9s (from over a year ago).

No firmware change will affect your performance on the pool, beyond possibly helping the miner perform better.  Maybe.

So I've got a question for you guys.

I'm currently drawing up a business plan for an absurd amount of miners. I might aim for a state in the US with super cheap electric (looking at you Washington), supplemented with either one VERY large wind turbine (1MWh, which i believe is about a million dollars, at least it was when i was working in solar in 2010)

Would the pool be open to having a silly amount of hash rate added to it, or is it kind of in a sweet spot right now where say 50-70PH would hurt the pools share to solve ratio?

I've got 220ish TH with the pool right now running a hosted mining business for my buddies, but i've worked in IT for going on 15 years now. Infrastructure, coding, ERP, you name it I've done it. Jack of all trades, master of none, except maybe crypto. I've carried many job titles.

I know i can handle this from pretty much every aspect. I would obviously bring in an electrician and someone to make me really tidy cable runs for ethernet, but the rest I'd do with me and a few other buddies, hopefully over a weekend.

The boss of the company I work for has run a vertical specific Microsoft Dynamics NAV (navision before that, and even something before that) VAR for 25 years. He's a multi-millionaire, and I'm going to present a really clean business plan that covers every risk i can possibly think of. Even a $1000 or less bitcoin. It gets below that we're all screwed anyways, unless you've been HODLing since 2010. I dont even want to talk about the amount of BTC i mined back in those days and sold for pennies on the dollar. Who would have thunk that a drug market on the dark web  could jump start the revolution we're in now. I should have known though. Any product that facilitates drugs or porn always wins.

He's expressed interest in starting something with me, I just don't think he knows what kind of plan I'm going to hit him with.

TL;DR There's a 30-40% chance I'll be commanding 50+PH pretty soon. Show of hands of people who would want that on Kano and who would not. I'm a strong believer in shared luck, and my initial math for pooled mining on this pool (february luck levels included) looks positive so far.

Thanks Everyone! If you want to PM me your thoughts rather than fill up page after page of "Fuck you's" or "Fuck Yeah's!" I'm sure Kano would appreciate that.

I'm also lookin at you too Kano..

EDIT: Also: any vendors that want to keep me from dealing with Shitmain, PM me.

<snip>
Depends on what you think a silly amount of hash is! A kilo? Jk, actually kano has stated that he'd let the pool grow to a max of 10% of total network, which atm is 2,500,000 THs approx. (2,500 PHs or 2.5 EHs)
How silly can you get?  Wink (Top Secret anyone?)

Kano has posted a couple of times about his ideal pool size at 10% of the network and we are not anywhere near it yet.  Being at 10% would minimize the impact of those monster blocks that visit every pool from time to time.  If you could pull off that kind of expansion by all means go for it.
